In Honor of Teacher Appreciation Week…

Meet Sister Michaela O’Brien, the teacher that Changed Jeanne’s life!

Sister Michaela

Sister Michaela O’Brien was a young nun who taught Biology at Saint Mary’s Springs Academy in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, which Jeanne attended. In addition, Sister Michaela was in charge of the drama department and it was there that she changed Jeanne’s life.

Sister recognized Jeanne’s natural talent and encouraged it. Jeanne flourished on stage…appearing in many productions including the starring role in the Senior class play ‘I Remember Mama’. Jeanne and Sister became life-long friends.

In fact, when Jeanne went to college, she intended to become an elementary school teacher, no doubt influenced by Sister. Then came time for ‘practice teaching’ in a classroom with real kids.

That was a rude awakening for Jeanne. She loved creating fun bulletin boards and decorating the classroom walls and windows…but disciplining a room full of high energy young kids…not so much!

Fortunately, she soon met Butch Bice who swept her off her feet and rescued her from the classroom.

There are those who say Jeanne found her classroom at QVC, where her inspiration and storytelling provided valuable life lessons for women all over America!
