Hi Barbara
Glad to hear from you, and get your holiday wishes for all of us. May I say, before I forget, that I also hope everyone is stopping t smell the Christmas tree, while they bustle about getting everything done.
So, I have not dusted the furniture, and I do not care…how is that for holiday spirit? I decided to concentrate on the wonderful smells of baking, which I can barely pick up….LOL heather is committed to vacuuming and swiffering the floors when I am done with the baking. My other Minnions are working late every day. Marissa is on until 7pm Christmas Eve, as they have to get the day after sales signs up at Yankee Candle.
Cold is a tiny bit better today. Tillie told me my voice sounds better. I did the Snickerdoodle cookie, and am waiting for the Jelly roll dough to get a bit cold, as it is too warm in here to roll it out. Who ever heard of 50’s in December?
I do not think any of us will veer be in the position of being “honored’ at the holiday table. We will be cooking, and baking, until the undertaker comes to take us away. My Nonna was the same way. I do remember as she got into her 80’s, the Aunties helped a lot more, and she directed the Italian way…yelling at them and clawing them “stunada’s”. Not sure of spelling, but it means dummies. there are days I use a lot more colorful wording. You are rig, my dear, better to be the ones doing , than the ones done for. We Quackers will not give up, or give in to ur ailments.
Yes, Barbara, we all have lots of sleepless nights. if something is on my mind, and I get to sleep, and wake up for a second, that is it- up until dawn. I have a lot of those. Add the rain, and I an awake not just for me, but Gary, who thrashes around with his shoulder that is killing him. they took him off the Celebrex for the arthritis, because of the compromised kidneys.
Maybe you could work into the conversation with Sarah that Jerry is very old fashioned, and wants the men to do the heavy carrying, not the women. add that he gets aggravated when his son does not come out, expects him to open doors for her, and would never consider getting help from his delicate DIL. Not in his nature. Could work, you never know when you would have a good opening for that one.
the only reason they are not eating all the cookies, is because they are all working late…LOL Plus, I have not made Gary’s favorite yet- the Jelly roll, and tomorrow the Italian anise cookie. if I made chocolate chip, they would not last 2 hours around here. Not only does Bobby eat most of them, he hides some in his room for later. yesterday, Amanda took a coupled to Marissa at work, and she was thrilled. I bet that fudge was spectacular. Anything gone that fast always is!
For Christmas Eve we are having take out, or catering( they call it catering to charge more….LOL), from a local Italian function hall- Spinelli’s, of East Boston. Lasagna, eggplant, meatballs, ziti, chicken parm, and chicken marsala, with a tray of antipasto. Bobby is working late too, and there is not time for a gravy to be made. Plus, it gives us all a break. I will be doing a loaf of Italian bread in the morning, so hot home made bread will be on the table. Christmas day, is prime rib, with honey glazed carrots, spiced broccoli and cauliflower (ala the Chew), mashed and au gratin potato’s.
Cooking 2 holiday meals in a row, is just not good for my mood. decided that years ago, when the back got bad.
What is on your menu?
Hope your prep is going well, and that you are not too achy. Put your feet up in your recliner, and have a little nap. you have earned one.
