Hi Everyone, The summer marches on and here we are in August. Hope everyone has a great month!

Hi Colleen,
You can preorder that book on Amazon and then they will just send it to you on the day that it comes out. I do that with books and with musical CD’s sometimes. We have a Barnes and Noble in Rockford and over in Crystal Lake and a small independent bookstore in Woodstock. I too can lose myself in a bookstore. I love to browse there-however since I go online a lot of times now i just browse through books on the amazon site. If you look up one thing it shows other similar books and I just find myself going on and on from there.
You are right. I like cantaloupe, watermelon and peaches but you can only eat so much in a day before you will burst. I hope Ron is eating them too. You will have to open up your own stand. lol Of course if you are on a back road no one will come by anyway. lol
I don’t know if other places have started to grow marai corn or not. They would have to buy the seed from these local people as they are the ones who accidentally developed it looking for a drought resistant corn and then discovered it was very sweet. I believe you can buy the seed online if Ron ever wants to try to grow it. It comes from Twin Garden Farms in Harvard. I’ve been eating fresh sweet corn all my life and to me nothing else even compares. It was little known except around here until a couple of years ago one of the announcers on a Chicago radio station had some and raved about it on air and all of a sudden this sleepy little farm stand became inundated with city people coming to buy the corn and now they ship it to some stores in the city too. I think that corn has now grown to be a huge part of their business. It’s funny how some things happen just by a twist of fate.
I am posting one more picture at the end of this post that wouldn’t fit on the first post.
Their way of posting pictures here is not very user friendly.

OMG, everyone…another month has gone by!
So, Colleen…..are you goign through a lot of toilet paper, with all the fruit you two are eating?? LOL LOL

Hi Gail,
I will see if I can pre order the book. My daughter will do it for me she is good about doing that. I am glad that he wrote another one he has been acting like he was going to quit writing those books. There must be a lot of people that like them.
May have to go to the man’s house at the end of the road. He has a lot that is by the main road. I could set up there and see how I do. They are really good peaches and cantaloupe. We have not cut into the watermelon yet. I imagine that it is good also.
That is really lucky that the radio announcer tried their corn. It really did boost their business. We may have to try to get some of the seed next year. We do not have much luck growing the other type of corn so maybe this would grow here and it would be really good. Corn on the cob is so good. I like it much better then canned corn. Ron would eat corn at every meal if I would fix it. He likes the type in a can. He like the fresh better but will eat that can stuff anytime also.
I like the pictures that you posted. They are so cheerful and bright colored. The one with the butterflies has your name all over it. You are the butterfly person on here. Whenever I see a butterfly on a flower or on a shirt I think of you. Quacker has a lot of things with butterflies also. There must be a lot of ladies on here that love them also.
This site really did change when they made it more user friendly. It is not as friendly as the other sites they had. Guess if you are a computer whiz it would be easy.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great day.
Colleen -
Hey Colleen!
I think you will after you have all the fruit….LOL
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. We are supposed to get thunderstorms today. usually, we hear all the noise, and the rain goes further up form us. I saw that on the news last night, and said to Gary that will not happen today. As soon as they are outside, we will get the storms to interfere with the install of the air conditioner. It is my luck.
Thank God we have the old one in the wall, as it is already on to try to keep it a little cooler in here until the on is up and running.
Gary is home today, as the work van is in the shop. So, in light of that, I am going out to lunch with my friends. We have re-scheduled our lunch for the past 2 weeks, due to all the crazy work going on here, and I took advantage of being able to leave with Gary here.Hello everyone- how are all my Quacker buddies today?? Hope everyone is good, and no storms are bothering anyone!
Adele -
Hi Adele,
I hope JJ is feeling better. Is JJ for Jhonny Jr?
You sure have been getting a lot of rain.
Hope you had a great lunch with your friends.
It will be interesting to see if the bloodwork from the rheumatologist tells them something that they didn’t know before.
I had the AC guy here yesterday putting in the new coil. I hope that takes care of our troubles. He also told me that i should have them come in the fall to clean and check the furnaces. We have never done that. Didn’t even know that you needed to but it makes sense. I’m surprised that Greg never thought of that but now that i think of it he’s not very good at maintenance unless it’s on something like the lawnmower. Now I have a whole list of things to do before winter as I also need to remember to have the chimney sweep in and to have the guy come and pump the septic. I better make a list and cross this stuff off or I’ll never remember.
My hairdresser managed to sneak me in this afternoon-so this should be interesting. Can’t wait to hear her comments on my haircut. lol

Hi Colleen,
Ordering from Amazon is not much different from ordering online at QVC. I must admit I always used to use automated ordering on the Q but once I started using a computer I switched to online ordering. I like it so much better. The older I get the less I like going out to stores unless it’s a store with cute stuff to browse through.
Corn is harder to grow than some of the other vegetables. We used to grow our own until we realized it was so much easier to drive down the road and buy it from the stand so we haven’t grown it ourselves the last two years. It will be interesting to see how the potatoes turn out this year. Greg is growing them inside this hay bale thing. He reads this stuff online and wants to try it all the time. Sometimes it works and other times not. Last year we had these huge towers for cucumbers to grow up on but that didn’t work too well. When we had those big storms it knocked down some of our sunflowers. We get some really tall ones so I hope we still will have some. I love sunflowers. Remember when they had the contest on here a few years back to see who could grow the tallest sunflowers from seeds that they sent us?
I’m like Ron and could eat the fresh corn everyday. I actually do eat the fresh tomatoes every day-several of them.
It’s nice to know that you associate me with something pretty like a butterfly-it’s better than being associated with horse manure or something like that. lol
The county fair started yesterday so it was the end of Maya’s year of being the junior Miss McHenry County. I’ll bet her Mom will be happy not having to drive her around to all the activities that were associated with the title. I will have to see if Jenny knows who the new girl is and where she’s from.

Hey Gail
JJ is short for Jhonny Junior. he is fine. He scared me half to death, but was good when he woke up. He just left a few minutes ago. It was nice having him for a few days. I brought him and Tillie a dinner back from Bertucci’s. He wanted the kids’ chicken nuggets with broccoli. We sat with Tillie downstairs, as they were finishing up here.
This air conditioner really pushes the air through the vents. I had to make the temp higher. It is supposed to be a lot more efficient. I hope it will lower our bill, as that is always good. This also has a washable filter, so we will get a second one, and then change them out.
We always have the heating and air conditioning serviced every year. We have oil heat.
I hope your air is fixed, and you have no more issues. I am so glad this is all done. I was also thrilled I was going out, as it was very noisy, and hot in here, with the attic open, and no central on. there were 5 men, whihc included 2 electricians, as they changed the lines. They really did a great job. Enzo left with cookies for him and Marissa. Guy got some too. Jhonny and JJ took the rest, and we have a few left for the Uncle Cookie Monster.
It is pouring here, and thundering- storms started when I was still at lunch.
I hope your hair came out fabulous!!!!
I am supposed to get the results of all the blood work tomorrow.
Hope all is well out there….

Hope you all are having a good day. We are slightly cooler here today. We are so excited since Sarah and Colin are flying in today. They had a 6 am flight to start the day and will be flying or waiting somewhere for the next flight for about 8 hours. I know they will be so tired when they arrive, and we hope the baby will do good on the flights. Neal told us that we will have the baby all to ourselves on Friday while Sarah and her Mom do the last minute preparation for his pre-first birthday party on Saturday. It is from 2pm until 6pm. Sarah’s Mom told me and Jerry when we took them to dinner last week that it will be super casual. So I am sure tomorrow they will be spending all day with her family, and then while the baby is with us we are going to have a photographer friend do some very casual pictures of the three of us here at our home. I know my hair needs coloring, and Jerry will just be in shorts and a casual shirt. He loves a simple summer blouse I have and I think I will wear that and a pair of Quacker capri pants or jeans and just think of how much we love that little fellow and that is all that really matters. So you all know how happy these two old folks are. Neal did tell us a few days ago that they will be coming home for Christmas, all of them. Makes us so happy.
Hope all of you are doing good. I am like Gail, I used to love to go to bookstores. I would spend my whole Saturday in there and one book would lead me to another and another. I just loved them. The little ones and me would spend our afternoons in the library, and I remember the smell of all things of walking in that door and then off to the childrens corner we would go for story time. Such sweet memories. I do most of my reading and searching now online. Joey listens to books on his I phone on his way to work and on his I pad at home. He really enjoys that.
That fresh corn sounds deliscious. We have a type of fresh corn here that has white and yellow kernels on the same cob and it is so sweet too. And we live fairly close to a town called Ripley and it is known for it’s tomatoes. I eat them almost every day when they are in season. We are having them tonight for our breakfast for supper meal. They just top off this meal. So many people don’t eat tomatoes with eggs, but it is so common in the South.
Better go for now. Still lots to do but glad to do it ha ha. Take care everyone, and I am sending good thoughts your way. Hugs, Barbara -
Hey Barbara
You are goign to have the best time for the next few days. that they are all coming home for Christmas is the best new ever. You must all be thrilled, beyond belief. this is the best news I have heard all day. Absolutely the best gift for Christmas, ever.
You made me think of how wonderful the smell at a library is. No Nook book can compare to that.
you will look beautiful in your photo outfit. I hope you post one on here. That would be wonderful to see. I bet you will not be able to sleep tonight.
We are in the middle of thunderstorms. They have been going on for hours. It is supposed to be done by 9 tonight.
Fresh corn is Gary’s favorite. Since I got the new corn gadget from the Q, Tillie can now have fresh corn too.
I hope you have a wonderful day, and weekend, with Colin and his Mumma. Have fun at his birthday party!!!
Adele -
Hi Ladies,
We are sweltering out here in the NW!!!! Thank goodness the humidity is in the 20s. But on top of the hot temps now we’re inundated with the smoke from the wild fires in Canada. Not mention the ones in our own state. We could use some of that rain that you guys are having. That’s saying a lot since we had so much earlier this year. No clear indication of a cool down anytime soon either. Its supposed to cool down to the 90s over the weekend. That’s not a real cool down in my book!!
This heatwave even made the national news & Live with Kelly & Ryan this morning.
Where did July go?? It sure flew by didn’t it?? Next thing I know I’ll be decorating for fall & Halloween!! I hope everyone enjoyed the last CIJ show on Monday. Gail, I hope you were able to see Jim Shore.
The bug lady came yesterday, & signed off stating she didn’t find any bugs this time. Here comes the ‘but’. But she checked off another inspection the end of the month. Really??! I’m done. I’m putting some stuff back out. They’ve never done this before.
I haven’t read the posts yet so if I left something out don’t be offended.Oh Adele, when you had PT on your shoulder did you wake up the next morning in excrutiating pain? I went to the PT on Monday & this one did a massage with a vibrating wand (no comments from the peanut gallery). It felt good as she did it. But the next day I couldn’t get out of bed. My whole right arm was in pain!! I took a double dose of my pain killers that day. It feels a little bit better today but it still hurts. Did yours do that? the first Dr I saw gave me a couple gentle exercises to do.
Well, I guess that;s all for now.
Take care.
dd -
DD,
I had to chuckle at your vibrating wand remark. lol I wonder why using that ending up causing so much pain the next day. I would tell them about that next time you go back. Maybe they could do something else that would end up not making you hurt so much.
They really are stringing you along with this whole inspection and spraying business. It makes you wonder if anyone knows what the heck they are doing.
I keep seeing them mentioning the heat out there on the Today show. We are having a cold front move through and are supposed to be only upper 60’s tomorrow. That’s cool for August. I think it will feel good and Greg will be complaining about being cold and I will be telling him that he is a whimp. lol
Gail -
Hi Barbara,
I hope you have a wonderful weekend with Colin. I would so like to see one of those pictures with you Jerry and the baby.
Boy-an 8 hour layover is a long time when traveling with a baby. They will both be tired by the time they get there.
How wonderful that Neal’s whole family will come home for Christmas. I know that is the best news that you could get. It will make the time so special.
When our kids were little I also took them to story hour at the library and to summer reading club and it’s so nice to see Jenny doing the same with her kids. They love going to the library-of course that also usually includes a trip to the playground which is just outside it also.
I have never listened to an audio book although I know many people do. I still enjoy the actual act of seeing the words just because I like words. I know-I’m weird.
Greg always puts ketchup on his eggs ( and just about everything else) so tomatoes with eggs aren’t much different than that. I eat tomatoes every day too once they are in season. Nothing better than straight from the garden.Gail
-
Hi Adele,
I’m surprised that JJ requested broccoli as most kids are not crazy about that vegetable. I’m glad that he is feeling better.
I hope both of us are leaving the AC trouble behind us.
We had oil heat in our old house and we always had that furnace cleaned as it caused build up but I just hadn’t thought about it with the propane but I guess it was a good suggestion. I will just go ahead and schedule it come fall and just have them come in and do it because Greg will probably say we don’t need it and I personally would rather be safe than sorry and I already know that he is not good about maintaining things. I also always get the chimney for the fireplace cleaned and he always says i don’t need to do it that often but I always say I’d rather get it done than burn the house down. I guess maybe he just doesn’t worry about the same things that I do.
I hope that your blood work comes out good.
Well my hair stylist was shocked when she saw how much hair was cut off. She teased me the same way as everyone else about how having the shaved side is in style-however, I said not for a 68 year old woman. lol She said it will be a year and a half before it grows totally back to the length it was before. it’s a good thing it’s the whole layer underneath and i can cover it up. However, in summer i like to put my hair up and this kind of puts a crimp in that because then the shaved spot shows. I need some hair tonic for fast growing hair. lol
You sure have been getting a lot of rain. We are going to cool off tomorrow and for the weekend.
Jenny and Kendall have to work in the 4H food booth tomorrow night at the fair so this will be two Fridays that we miss getting together. Maybe they can do something on Saturday or Sunday.
How is your strike going? Are Gary and Bobby tired of having cereal for dinner yet?
Gail -
Hi DD
Glad to know you are ok, accept for your shoulder.
The first time PT did that to my shoulder, it was awful sleeping that night. However, the next time they did it, it made it feel better. Every time they did the deep massage, pulling and pushing thing, the shoulder felt better the next day ( after the first time it was done). It does hurt like hell, when they do it, but after they put the ice treatment on, it feels good. Make sure you take the time for the ice treatment, prior to leaving PT. I think I forgot to tell you that.
I sincerely hope you do not have to go through another bed bug issue. i bet it is because you threw the bed out, before they sprayed. they should have told you not to change it until they sprayed, especially since they were the ones who moved the old one out, and the new one in. bed bugs are becoming an epidemic. I am so sorry you have to go through all of this.
If i were you, I would try to find out if the people around you do have bed bugs- the one on top, below, and on either side of you. that will tell you if you have to continue going through all of this, as they do travel.
I always add a prayer for you, and all you are goign through. Dealing with all this is so upsetting. I hope this is all done, and you can get back to normal.
Adele -
Hey Gail!
My blood work came out ok. No rheumatoid arthritis, so that is good. I just got the results this morning. I did like that doctor, but, I will not have to see her anymore.
We do not do our chimney as much, as we do not use the fireplace. we get ours done every 2 to 3 years.
The strike does not even make any difference this week, as there has been no cooking accept for Monday, when I did the Pesto Sauce, with all of them here. Too many repair people coming and going to cook anything aorund here, and today I go to PT at 4:00 pm. LOL I think it will be hot dogs tonight, as I will not be back until close to 6.
That stinks that you have not been able to do Friday’s with the grands.
You are lucky you have such pretty thick hair. If your hair was thinner, you would really see the spot missing. I am glad you are able to cover it up. I hope nobody notices, and that will make you feel better. It could be one of those things we are painfully aware of, and because you are so friendly, and sparkly, nobody will notice at all.
So, here is a good story for you. I have been calling around for oil prices, as I am so tired of the oil goign up and up. I was not sure we would go with our regular company, and they knew that. Their price was 2.29, and the local cash on delivery one was 1.64. Only thing is, I would have to monitor the tank,as they do no auto delivery. So, as the prices started to go up, even with them- they are now at 1.77, and it is not even oil delivery time. Our old one would go down to 2.09, if we stayed with them, and give us 50.00 off the contract and burner clean out. So, I call them Monday- no return call. I call again today, and say we decided to go with you, he says they will send us out a contract for the years, with the terms, and then I question my budget plan, as it was after August 1, when they would have taken out the first payment, and he says….wait for it…. we already took 200.00 out of your account for August. I was so flabbergasted, I hung up, checked my account, and yes, it was out yesterday. So since THE HUSBAND loves them, I had him call back to rant. Their answer….well, we have been taking the money out of your account for 4 years now. Seriously???? This is why I hate them. they are the most disorganized oil company I have ever seen when it comes to payments, etc, as I have to call them some months to remind them to take the money out. We pay from August to June, the pre-determined budget amount- this year is 200.00. Last year was 175.00. I was pissed, as there is no contract, and what if the money was not in there? I would have had bounced debits all over the place. I tell you, next year we are done with them. Gary likes them because they get here pretty quick for a burner malfunction. they better this year.
Your crazed Quacker buddy…..who is 200.00 poorer today.

Hi Girls,
I will try to catch you up. I have been so busy with appts the past 2 weeks. Good news I am doing good. My family doctor saw the change right away. I was able to get up on his table and down where he had to pretty much pick me up and put me up there before. So he saw I was stronger. I also lost 16 lbs. but am afraid I will put it back on since I can eat now without being sick. I was discharged from Physical therapy yesterday. He gave me the tools so now I just need to continue the exercises at home to get where I want to be. I can still call him if I have questions. I saw the orthopedic doctor today and he said I was walking well and everything looked well. I did not even use a cane. So I do not see him again for 9 months.
Now the down side my hair is falling out. I think from all the medicine I took. So Gail may have a spot but if this continues I will be bald. I hope it grows again now that I am no longer taking all the medicine. I had very thick hair so not bald yet.I have to get my sweet corn to freeze. I got a dozen to eat but want to get more to freeze for winter. I can’t handle the canned stuff. The frozen tastes just like fresh just takes some work. I get it fresh picked and blanch it and freeze it without it laying around. It just tastes so much better and lasts a long time in the freezer. We get incredible corn here and it is so good. I like to get some white corn too but it is hard to find any more. I got from a stand last year so will need to see if they have it this year.
So it has been busy. I think the only thing scheduled next week is car inspection.
-
Hi Sue!!
So glad to hear from you. It sure sounds like you are doing way better than you thought you would. That is just fabulous news. Walking without a cane at this point in your recovery is unbelievable. You should be very proud of yourself. We are!!
Congratulations on losing 16 lbs. I bet that makes you feel good to.
What medication made you lose your hair? Are you allergic to it, by any chance? The only good thing is, that hair will grow again. But,you still have to wait until the new growth reaches the length of the rest of your hair. You and Gail are going through the same hair problems. It is good that your hair is thick to begin with, so that will make you feel better.
I have never frozen corn. That is a great way to freeze it. i may try that, as it is good to have in the middle of the winter.
So good to hear from you again!! glad your recovery is going so well.
Adele -
Hi Ladies,
I only missed one day of being on here and I missed a lot. I am going to try and read all that has gone on while I was gone yesterday. It is cooling down here but not as quickly as we would like. Still no rain.
DD, I am sorry to hear about the heat that you are having where you are. They were talking about that on the news tonight. They were talking about how unusual it is in your area. Hope that it passes quickly and you get back to normal. This heat is everywhere. That is terrible that they are stringing you along with this bug inspection and spraying. They need to get on with it and quit coming back. I would put my stuff back and get back to normal. That is terrible that they are making you wait for so long.
Adele, I hope that you are happy with the new air conditioner. At least you know that this one will last longer since Enzo and his cousin put it in for you. We still have had no rain. If we don’t pretty soon everything is going to dry up. My flowers are not doing as well this year. Maybe next year it will be better. That is good news that you do not have any rheumatoid arthritis. That is one thing that worries all of us as we get older. That is terrible what they did to you with the oil. I would be upset if someone took $200. out of my account. That sure would be aggravating. We have propane and we have to deal with deliveries and all that mess. Ron handles that so I do not have to worry about it. We do not always use the same company it depends on how has the cheaper prices. We own our tank so it makes it a lot easier. I hope that you had a good lunch with the girls. That really sounds like fun.
Gail, We have trouble growing corn here also. We use to be able to buy some from a farmer but he got older and does not farm any longer. So we still have to find another place. We may need to go to Farmington to the veggie stand. They are there just about all week-end. I hope that you get a lot of potatoes. That is an interesting way to plant it. If it works that would be great. They do so many new and different things now.Do you and Greg go to the county fair? They can be a lot of fun. That is nice that Jenny works there and helps out. I bet the kids like it. Does Adam help out or is he at work? It would be nice if they could go as a family. I remember the contest with the sunflowers. Mine looked really good for awhile and then they fell over. I cannot remember why that happened. Don’t know if we had storms or if it was from the heat.
Barbara, That sounds like so much fun to have Colin there for some grandma and grandpa time. You all three will have fun together. I hope that you will be able to post a picture on here of the three of you. We would all like to see it. What good news that they will all be at your house for Christmas. It will be so nice to have little Colin around to see the tree and all the decorations. He will be at the age where he will really enjoy them. All the pretty lights and everything. He will also be able to open his presents by himself. There is nothing like a good book shop. I would rather read a book then to listen to one.
Sue that is good news that you are doing so well. You worked really hard to get to that point. You should be patting yourself on the back. Sounds like you have been really busy now that your knee is doing better. It may not be as hard to keep the weight off as you think. I lost all that weight and still have not gained it back. Just do not feel like eating as much. I also have some exercises that I do that helps.
Well today I went to the eye doctor and I no longer have to wear glasses. He told me to go to Walgreens and get some Foster Grant readers. I can get a prescription but they would not be any stronger the the readers. So have been celebrating all day.
Have a great night.
Colleen -
Hey Colleen
I hope you get some rain soon. You have the weather we had last year, when we had a drought. When winter arrived, a lot of trees went down due to the stress they were under from the drought. It caused a lot of damage, all across the state.
I hope your garden survives. We had higher prices for vegetables and fruits, all due to the drought too, and nothing looked good. I wish I could send some rain your way.
How has your Mom been doing? You have not said anything about her in a while. do you still have the buffalo roaming your yard? Those hens too? We have the cute bunnies we see early in the morning, and late at night. I have not heard the coyote’s howling, and that is good. I know they are there, as the dog next door goes nuts outside at night.
Hope you are having a good day. We have Comcast coming again today, as the security cameras are still not working- 2 of 3 of them are out again. The supervisor is coming today, with a technician. I hope this is the last visit from them, as this is getting old.
Tomorrow, we are going to see my BIL, as he is not doing well. After that, we will go see Winnie.
Adele -
Hi Sue,
I’m glad to hear that you have made such good progress after your knee replacement. You have really worked hard to get better and it’s paying off.
I hope that the hair loss was just from the meds and that it will grow back soon. It’s a good thing that your hair is thick.
Do you freeze the corn on the cob? We used to do that sometimes when we grew our own.
I hope that you have a nice treat planned for your birthday. Have a great one!
What is a car inspection? We don’t have them here.
Gail -
Hi Adele,
I’m glad to hear that the tests show no RA. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I am lucky because we are able to keep mine under control but not everyone is so fortunate. For the amount of people that have it it doesn’t seem like enough research has been dedicated to it. However, I am fortunate to live now when at least there are some treatments. When my dad had it there was very little that could be done about it and he suffered like crazy. That’s what scared me so much when I was first diagnosed-as I could remember his suffering. So even though I have it I consider myself fortunate that we can treat it.
I can’t believe that they took out the money for the oil before you had even signed a contract for this year. We do a contract for every year to buy a certain amount of propane for the winter but I don’t have them on an autopay. We pay for the whole thing at the beginning of the season because that’s how we get the lowest rate. Plus I just don’t like too many auto pays as I find them hard to keep track of. I still like to pay things the old fashioned way for the most part-that way I keep a better eye on where the money is going. Although I do use the easy pays from the Q but that’s all on one separate card that isn’t used for anything else. If that makes any sense.
What i don’t like about our propane company is for 35 years they were a small local company and about 5 years ago they were bought out by someone else so the management is now somewhere on the east coast and things have changed since that happened. They like to stretch out the time between deliveries longer to save on manpower and that caused us to actually run out of propane two years ago on the day after Christmas. I never had to keep an eye on the gauge before but now i don’t trust them anymore and have Greg check the gauge if we have had some really cold temps just to make sure we don’t run out again. It seems like when a small company gets taken over by a bigger one something always changes and not for the better. If they mess up again we will probably change companies-so they are on probation after 40 years of service. lol
Hope that you have someone cooking for you this weekend. Our weather is chilly today. Only upper 60’s.
Gail -
Hi Colleen,
Sometimes Greg and I go to the fair and sometimes not. It depends on the weather and such. Although we haven’t been for awhile now. Every year all the walking gets harder and harder.
Adam will usually go to the fair during the day since he doesn’t start work until four and Gabby and Enya usually would be showing their livestock during the day. They usually show pigs and cows and maybe sheep.
Wow! I am envious of you! Since I have worn glasses since 6th grade I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be glasses free. Just having reading glasses won’t be bad at all. Especially if you can just use the drug store ones-it won’t even cost much. I have bought some readers from the Q before. They have had some cute sets with designs that you don’t see at the drug store or Walmart. Anyway, that must feel really good to go without glasses. I don’t blame you for celebrating. In fact I think Paolo should bring you a cocktail!
Gail -
Hey Gailster!
I have to say I was quite shocked. then, I thought maybe they were trying to prevent me from going somewhere else. Then, I said to myself….seriously? That almost made me move to another company period. If the oil were not going up every minute right now, I owuld have left them. I was afraid I would not get as good a price with someone else as the market is in up mode. Then Gary was obsessed with the fact that they get here in record time when our system shuts down. It seems to do that about once a heating season. I hate dealing with the oil companies. This is my 4th one since I am in this house.
I have a whole bunch of things direct debited out of my account- mortgage, oil, solar, house insurance, car insurance, life insurance, and now the new Jeep. I keep a yellow stickie with all the dates and amounts, and fill them into my check register every first of the month. that way, they are not forgotten. I get a cheaper rate on insurance because I have it done that way. the rest I pay on line, or by phone. I never use the mail, as you just never know anymore.
Wow- you and Colleen are already goign to Fairs. none aorund here yet
So, this am we had Comcast here again- they replaced 2 cameras, and said they were all off line. It must have been an error with the prior technician. Two of them were here form 9:30 until 12;30. I seriously hope this is it for those cameras not functioning. then, i had to call the Geek Squad again, as the cameras would not load i on the laptop- it was some Adobe thing. It took them a while, but they fixed that. they did it remotely.
I am glad it is not rheumatoid. But, looking at my hands, you would never know that it is not. My fingers are all distorted. I am glad you are getting help from your doctors. In just a few years, they make so many gains.
Tomorrow will be a busy day. We go to see my BIL, then Winnie, and then Al (Winnie’s husband) wants to go out to get something to eat with us, as this popular restaurant near the nursing home. I feel a little weird about that…leaving Winnie there while we go out. Of course, it was the men who decided that!
I am praying I am done with repairs for a while around here……
Adele -
Hi Adele,
We are lucky that there are places that are further south of us that have had more rain. We can go there and get things at a better price. We do not have to worry about the prices around here as much. It would be so nice to get some corn. We have not looked for that yet. I would like to buy some to freeze. The corn is good after you cut if off the cob and freeze. We do like Sue does.
My mom is doing great. I took her a couple of quacker tops the other day and she really liked them both. The one she said that she would wear in the fall and the other was on that went with the shorts and capris. She wanted the butterfly top so she got the top and I got the shorts and the caprs. She won’t wear them not even around the house.
The buffalo are not roaming anymore. They had to put up an electric fence. I guess they were getting a lot of complaints because the buffalo were on the road here and people did not like it. So all my trees and flowers are safe now.
Watching bunnies play is so cute. They are cute anyway. They are a menace if they get in the garden though. They eat everything. Nothing is safe. The deer are the same. They are so pretty when they run and when they jump the fence. They are so graceful. Guess we moved to the right place to watch wild life.
That is terrible that you cannot get those security cameras to work. Hopefully with the supervisor coming along it will be better. That is a shame that you had to call the geeks to help to get get it working also. That is a lot of different people to just get those running the way you want. It is nice though that it runs off you lap top.
My fingers are all crocked and a mess also. I wonder what causes that. Maybe it is just old age. They sometimes curve inward and the joints are a little swollen. They do not hurt though and I can still type on here and do other things. So I know that it is not arthritis.
Well that is about all from here. We have a busy day tomorrow. We have to go to two birthday parties and they are not anywhere near close to each other. One is Ron’s aunt and the other is our grand. Hope that we make both.
Have a great night.
Colleen -
Hi Gail,
I will have to check out the readers on the q. They may be a lot better then the ones that I am going to have to buy. I will try and find them on there. Do you know what company puts them out? This is hard to get use to. I have worn glasses for a long time also. I am just glad that this is all over with now. I do not have to see the eye doctor for another year.
What are the girls showing this year? Sounds like they enjoy showing animals. I guess when you are use to being raised around them all your life that it is a way of life.
Where is Paola at these days? I cannot remember whose house he was at last. He needs to get around more now. It is summer and we need him more then in the winter.
How did your hair turn out after you beautician fixed it? I bet that she did a good job she sounds like she is really good. It is hard to find a good hair stylist anymore. It would be nice to have thick hair but mine is really thin. It keeps thinner the older I get. I guess that I inherit it from my mom her hair is the same and so is my oldest sister. I wonder if my other two sisters have the same problem.
We do like you do with the propane. We pay for it right away and we get a better price. I guess that they do it different in every state. I have been thinking about Barbara. I hope that she is having a good time with Colin. It will be nice if she can post the pictures on here for us to see.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.
Colleen -
Adele, forgot to say hope that Winnie, Al and your bil are all doing well. I hope that you enjoy your visit. Winnie is probably glad that Al has someone to eat with and not eating alone. He probably will eat a good meal if he is out with you and Gary.

Hi Ladies,
All I can say is PRAISE THE LORD!!! After a very looong week of hot temps & a smoky haze over Portland, a marine front came thru overnight & blew out the smoky haze so we can actually see the clear blue sky today!!!!!!!!!!! It’s been AWFUL this week!! I don’t know what they’ve been reporting back there, but last weekend a North wind blew smoke from fires in British Columbia, Canada down here, all the way down the NW. then to add to it we have a wildfire in Eastern/Central Oregon. But it isn’t close to me. Let me clarify that the haze wasn’t due to cars, industrial smog, just smoke from fires. If the temps continue to be in the 90s the rest of the week, we’ll break the record set back in 2009, when we had 24 days of 90+ temps in Aug. It was reeeeaallllyyy bad that yr!!! I hope we don’t by not reaching 90 degrees this weekend. Oh, here’s a little tidbit for ya.. I checked out the Weather Channel on cable earlier this week, & they had one of their guys out here in downtown Portland reporting on the heat & the haze. That NEVER happens. They report from every place else but out here.
Adele, I can’t believe you’ve never frozen corn before!! Growing up my dad planted rows & rows of corn & we’d freeze nearly all of it. Just blanch it cut it off the cob, & bag it up. That sweet corn in winter, there’s nothing better!!!!! I can taste it now!! I just wish I had a large enough freezer so I could freeze some for this winter. We used to freeze just about everything. What we didn’t mom would can, mostly peaches, pears. Brings back memories.
I hope your family members are doing well.
Sue, congrats on your accomplishments with your knee, & losing weight. I wish I could lose some weight, but I love ice cream too much!! Altho with this hot weather we’ve been having, it’s too hot to cook so I’ve been eating lighter.
I’m having Chinese take out with Critt tonight. I haven’t had it quite awhile so that should be fun. They had a free French toast & bacon brunch yesterday & I told him it was on me, that I’d pay for it LOL. Cheap date.
well, it’s nap time so I’ll close for now.
have a great weekend girls.

DD I am glad someone else remembers freezing & canning fruit & vegetables for winter. We had a big garden and what we did not grow we bought from the local farmers. Back then we had a big freezer and a cupboard in the basement for canned goods. It is all so much better than anything in the grocery stores. Now I don’t have space to do a lot but always do corn. I have done peas, cauliflower, broccoli, peppers and onions. I loved having canned tomatoes for in soup.
I got some tomatoes yesterday and some peaches and my neighbor gave me apples from his tree. Today I am making chicken corn soup. It is cooler I guess we are to have cooler temps all week. They said a taste of fall. So I am enjoying all the fresh produce while available and freezing what I can for later. -
Hi Ladies,
Well, I spoke too soon. the haze made it’s way back overnight when the winds changed direction. It isn’t nearly as bad as it was last week tho. The temps are much cooler today for which I’m most grateful!! they say it’s supposed to heat up again later today & on thru the coming week. Hopefully not as bad as last week, no triple digit temps. 90s are bad enough.
Sue, my dad was a hunter so we had a large full size chest freezer so we had not only frozen veggies, but venison, elk, salmon, trout, duck, geese, for the winter. You’re so right about the canned fruits & veggies were soooo much better. No preservatives, salt, etc. Oh yeah, my mom did pickles, relish, mincemeat(for pies), I can’t remember what all.
Barbara I’m sure you’re having a ball with Colin this weekend. that’s wonderful they’ll be back for the holidays. Wonderful Christmas present indeed.I don’t have much else to rant on about. I’m gonna do that on someone else’s website!!!
Have a great week
dd -
Hi DD,
That must have been very disappointing when you woke up and the clear sky was gone again. That is terrible that you have all that smoke in the air. Hopefully you do not have to get out in that. That was not nice to fool everyone into thinking that the wind and blown the smoke away. Well at least it was gone for awhile.
We finally are getting some rain. It started as thunder storms yesterday and today it has been a slow steady rain. We really needed it. We have been watching it rain for awhile it has been so long since we have seen any.lol At least everything is starting to look really green again.
How nice that you and Critt are having Chinese together. It is nice to have a friend that you can eat dinner with once in awhile. The Chinese sounds really good. That was nice of you to take Critt to breakfast. I bet Critt got a good laugh out of you telling him it was on you. Did they have it there where you live? That was nice that they did that.
I freeze a lot of veggies here. I also do green beans. I cook them first and then freeze them. They taste better that way. We have tried to just freeze the green beans after blanching them but they do not have as good a taste. We do can pickles, relish and hot peppers. It depends on how many cucumbers that we get each year. This year does not look like we will get enough to make pickles. The tomatoes are really good though. Will have enough to make sauce with them.
The beach with the pink sand is really pretty. Is that just the way the sun is shinning on it? You always post such pretty pictures. I tell you this all the time. Hope you do not get sick of it. I just really enjoy them.
Have a great day.
Colleen -
Sue, right now is a good time to go to the orchards to get peaches. They will have one more good crop of eating peaches at the end of August. At least that is how the seasons are here. I freeze a lot of veggies that we grow in the garden. Also get some from local farmers. Have to find a new place to get corn as the farmer we use to get it from has retired. I do not know if one of his kids took over the farm or not. We also can pickles and hot peppers and relish.
How do you make corn soup? Can you post the recipe. It would be something different to fix.
Thanks
Colleen -
Hi Colleen,
Glad you’re getting some much needed rain out your way. Actually the haze isn’t nearly as bad today. Right now it just looks like milky sunshine. We won’t set any new records for number of 90 degree days. We broke the string yesterday when it didn’t get to 90. It doesn’t look like it will today either. They can’t really predict the weather. It’s gonna do what its gonna do. The winds shift one direction then shifts another way, so ya never know. I just hope it stays cooler like it is right now.I wrote a letter to the head office about what’s going on here with the bug spray. This time I was more detailed in what’s happening. I found another address to write to so I did. It’s to the office of the American Disabilities Act, & I also sent it to the main office downtown. Seeing as I sent it to the ADA that should grab somebody’s attention. I said I’m being held hostage & I want my life & apt back! I gave a detailed summary of all the dates involved & how I’ve had to wait weeks for inspections. How it’s ruined my summer & how I haven’t been able to do things due to this fiasco. I can only hope someone pays attention this time.
Glad you enjoy all the pics I find to send along. The pink beaches are in the Bahamas I believe.. they are unusual aren’t they? I just wish we could all be there right now, with our buddy & the drinks. LOL Dream On!!!
I see our local store has peaches on sale for 99 cents/ lb this week. They’re probably hard as baseballs tho. they should be having them in the farmers market this week. They didn’t have it last week due to the heat. I hope the corn starts coming in pretty soon. I love the white corm to freeze up for the winter.
Well, that’s all for now.
I’ll keep you guys posted if I should hear anything.
dd -
Hi DD,
That is good news that you are not going to break the record for the 90degree weather. I am glad that it is cooler now and the haze is not as bad as it was.It must be nice to look outside and see the sun.
That was a good idea to send it to the ADA. They usually investigate situations like the one that you are going thru. You should not have to put up with things in your shower. They should not take away your right to take a shower. I hope that this time they actually do something about it.They should have taken care of that right away and not put you off like that.
That beach is really unusual. Sounds like the Bahamas. They have the nice beaches and probably have the colored sand. I like that picture of the boats with the flowers in them. That would be cute for a friend of mine. She has a pond in her yard and that would look cute sitting by that. I will have to tell her about it. It would be even cuter if they had an anchor to help hold it down. We all like to dream about our cabana boy Paola. He is really good to have around. Brings us drinks and puts sun screen on us. It is fun to dream.
Peaches in the store are never as good as the ones that you get at the orchard or at the road side stands. We will probably go down and get more peaches in a couple of weeks and freeze those. They are nice to have in the winter.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi Colleen
So, you take the fresh corn off the cob, and freeze it? I thought you were freezing it, cob and all.
I hope you had a good time at the birthday parties you were going to.
So far, everything is fixed- computer, security cameras, etc. i am praying nothing else breaks.
i am glad your Mom is doing well too.
that is good that the buffalo are no longer roaming…LOL that must be so nice to see the deer. they are such beautiful creatures.
It was crazy here this weekend. We left the house at 11:30 on Saturday, and got home after 8:00 pm. It takes 1 1/2 hours to drive to my BIL’s nursing home. He is on his last breathe. I would not be surprised if he does no make it through the week. It is awful to see him like that, and even worst on his wife, kids and grands. no human should have to go through that to die. Alzheimer’s is such a terrible disease. From there, we went to see Winnie, who is doing ok. She is getting stronger. Then, Al wanted us to go out to dinner with him. Both of us were exhausted.
I cold hardly move yesterday. I made this cool new pasta/spinach salad. tillie and I loved it, and the bobby was not thrilled with it. Gary, of course, did not taste it. Bobby BBQ’d, so that was good, as i would have just had cereal, I was so wiped.
Today i went to the dentist, spoke with my SIL, and answered emails, etc.
I hope you had a good weekend.
Adele -
Hi DD
Thank you for the wishes for my family members, and friends- please read the post to Colleen for the latest news. so far, my BIl is still here, and Winnie is getting stronger. Her recovery is not like Sue’s at all.
that was so funny about the brunch with Crit. you gave me a good chuckle.
I hope you loved your Chinese food. We have Chinese about every other week, as it is too salty for Gary to have every week. It is one of everyone’s favorites aorund here.
Hope all is good, and the heat is over. that sounded just awful!
Adele -
Hi Sue and DD
We have never had the room to grow any corn. My dad used to grow tomatoes. I have not had great luck with them. i have one pot of the grape tomatoes now, and I can see a couple of red ones. When we were first here, I had good luck with zucchini, and cukes. that was short lived.
I do a great job with herbs in the window boxes on the deck, so that is my specialty for growing veggies/herbs……LOL
I should get the corn while it is cheaper, and freeze some like you girls do. Even a small amount will taste great in the middle of winter.
It is coolers here- near 80, but humidity is back. Wednesday is supposed to be the best day of the week for us. I hope ti take Steph and the boys to a farm up north of us. I really hope the weather cooperates for us to go.
Adele -
Hey Sue….same question here…how do you make the corn soup??
Adele -
Hey DD!
love all your pictures. You always print such nice, happy pics.
I bet when they read your letter, we will see you on the world news! You go girl.

Adele, you can freeze the corn on the cob but I prefer it cut off. Just me but I think it takes on the taste of the cob when frozen on the cob but many people like it that way so up to you.
My chicken corn soup is much like chicken noodle just use corn and fewer noodles. I really have no recipe just cook a chicken. I use a whole one because I make a big pot. When you cook the chicken you can use that broth for the soup. Debone the chicken & cut up, return to broth, put in corn as much as you want I like a lot and at the end add a handful of noodles. I add garlic and onions when cooking the chicken for flavor. That is how I do mine. The old timers use rivels instead of noodles but I prefer the noodles. If you need more broth just add more chicken broth. I know Colleen won’t eat this as she said she does not eat broth based soups. Maybe she needs a chowder they are good too. You could use all chicken broth from a can and a cooked deli chicken but I like to do my own as you get a richer broth.
I do not know why your friend is not doing as well as I am. Is she not doing the therapy? It is very important to do the exercises. I know it hurts at first but I was determined to get better. It is so worth it to be pain free. The doctor was saying how well I was walking and that has a lot to do with now I do not have pain every step I take like before. It is so worth the work. You get out of it what you put into it. If you do the hard work it pays off.
It has only been in the 60’s today and rain all day. -
Hi Ladies,
Adele, I can’t grow corn here, but I do buy quite abit during the season. I don’t freeze it on the cob. I tried that once & didn’t like it. I just blanch it & cut it off the cob. That’s how we did it growing up. Mark Charles had a gadget on ITKWD awhile back, it cut the corn off the cob cleanly. It reminded me of a cheese cutter. If your afraid of cutting it off with a butcher knife, I’d look into something like that. I can never get it off the cob like this gadget did. I take it you live in the city? No room for even a tiny garden? You don’t need an acre of land to grow a nice little garden. Just a couple rows would do you good.
I can’t remember whose hubby had cukes growing up, but that doesn’t work. Tomatoes yes, cucumbers not so much. too heavy. they like to crawl like ground cover. I know all this from growing up with a garden every year.
I’m sorry to hear about your BIL. That’s gotta be rough on all of you.
The haze has returned, but it isn’t nearly as bad as last week. We do have some humidity in the air today tho. There’s a rumor going around we could get showers next week. I’m hoping we do it’ll clear out the smoke & the crud.
I have an appointment with the eye Dr. tomorrow. I hope she can tell me why everything looks so blurry & out of focus. It drives me crazy!!!
That’s all for tonight.
dd -
Hi Adele,
I do take the corn off the cob. DD is right about leaving it on the cob but it is not as good. It is not as crisp as it is when it is fresh. Have you ever bought frozen corn on the cob at the store? It taste like that.
Thank heaven everything is fixed and you do not have to worry about it. Finally you can just relax and not have to worry about anything. That will be nice for awhile.
I am sorry to hear about your bil. This will be really hard on everyone. How is Gary doing? He and his brother were close weren’t they? I hope that Winnie starts to do better soon. She has been going thru a lot lately also. How is Heather doing? Did she finally get over the ear ache that she had? Those are really painful.
The pasta spinach salad sounds really good. You should post it on here. That is one salad that I would love to taste. I am really getting bad about eating pasta with veggies. I make linguine with broccoli sometimes for dinner. We eat that hot though and it tastes pretty good. That was nice that Bobby grilled the meat. It sounds really good. Poor Gary he will never get out of the dog house. It makes it hard to cook that is for sure.
Hope things went well with you at the dentist. No problems this time around. It seems like every time one of us go to see any type of doctor there is a problem. We all need good news.
We had a nice week-end. Did not do much. I ended up not going to either party. My daughter was supposed to ride up with me and she said that they wanted her to stay at the hotel with them. I did not want to stay over night there so I decided not to go. Ron had already left for his aunts party.
Well that is about all from here. I will keep everyone on my prayer list.
Colleen -
Hi DD,
That is terrible that the haze is back. Hopefully you will get some rain to clean the air. I know how it is to need rain. It should help to put out the fires also. Are they still burning there where you are? It seems like California has fires every summer.
We will be saying a prayer that all you need is a new pair of glasses. Do you have cataracts? If the is it do not be afraid to have the surgery. It is not bad at all.
I love that picture of all those people eating watermelon on the porch. It reminds me of my grandparents house. She had a screened in porch and we would eat out there when it was warm in her house. That is one good thing about all the old pictures. They bring back memories.
When I was growing up we always lived in town. So my parents did not have a garden. My mom just planted a lot of flowers. She inherited my grandmas green thumb. They had a farm when my mom was a little girl. But the depression really hurt them so they sold the farm and grandpa took a job in town. So we missed out on all of that.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi Sue!
My friend has issues with both her shoulders. She is having trouble getting up and down- due to the shoulders, more than the legs. Her leg swelled real bad too. I was surprised at how swollen it is. She also needs the other knee done, so that may impact her as well. She has been dong her exercises. But, the his hospital was not as aggressive with the therapy, and then when she got to rehab, they also waited a day before they worked with her. So, I think the wait made it worst for her. I have to call her today, as I had no time to call her yesterday at all. When I thought about it, it was too late.
So, do you boil the chicken, or bake it? When I do my chicken soup, I cook the chicken in the pot with everything else. Then, I take it out and de-bone it, and put the meat back in. that is how my Nonna and Mom did their soup. A lot of people do not do it that way. I love soup- my favorite meal.
It is in the 70’s here, with high humidity, and looks like it will pour any second. Has not. It is supposed to be nice tomorrow.
Thanks for the corn soup recipe!
Adele -
Hi Everyone,
DD I’m glad the smoke is going away and the temps are down. Boy your Dad hunted and fished for a lot of different things. You must have lived in a different part of the state growing up. I’m glad that you wrote that letter to complain. It is just not right waiting for something for that long. Hope your visit to the eye doctor was good. I just went yesterday and everything was about the same which in my case is good because that means the cataracts and macular degeneration have not progressed which I am always glad to hear. He is just tweaking my contact prescription a little bit to adjust the mono vision in the close range.
Colleen, right now they don’t have many readers on the Q. I got mine as a TSV and I think it was a set of seven which is good as then i can leave pairs in various rooms in the house. Maybe they will have another TSV sometime.
I think Gabby and Enya showed pigs and cows-not sure if they got any ribbons but they usually do.
My hair dresser can’t do much with my hair. I will just have to wait for it to grow back. She said it will probably take about a year and half to get the same length that i started out with in that area. Thank goodness he didn’t clip the whole thing but cut the layer underneath. I was so glad to finally get my roots done as i was way overdue.
Have you ever seen flamingos in the wild? The pink sand reminded me of that. I have only seen flamingos in the zoo. It would be interesting to see them in the wild. You know what drives me crazy? When Jayne Brown presents a clothing item with a flamingo on it she calls it a flamenco-like the dance instead of a flamingo-every time i hear her do that it just makes me grit my teeth. I know-not much in the big scheme of things but I think someone who is presenting products on air should have the correct pronunciation since it is their job to talk. Okay-I’ll jump off the soapbox now. I guess I am just in a bad mood today.
Adele, that is interesting that your oil company will also fix your furnace. If something is wrong with our furnace we have to call the heating and plumbing guys in. The gas people only deliver the gas.
Yes the county fair in the county that we live in is always right at the first part of August and the last one around here is Labor Day weekend.
I’m so sorry to hear about Gary’s brother. Alzheimers is just a heartbreaking disease.
So it sounds like the strike continues at your house. At least Tillie has been eating with you. It’s so hard to make everyone happy when you have picky eaters. If only they would put themselves in your place for a week they would understand.
Sue, you are doing so good and it sounds like you are getting back to your old self and getting around better than ever. All the hard work has paid off.
Barbara, I hope that you have had a wonderful visit with Colin.
Gail -
Hi DD!
That is what the rest of the girls said too- on the cob does not taste good frozen.
I do have that gadget- that is the one I was talking about when I said Tillie had her first fresh corn in years. It works great. she was thrilled. I love when the gadgets I buy work wonderfully.
I hope you do get rain to clear out all that gross air. they were talking on the news about some possible tornado further down the East coast last night. that system stayed to the south of us, and we got only the humidity and clouds. Yuck.
I hope your eye appointment goes well, and she can tell you why you are getting the blurry vision.
I planted a kind of cottage garden at the edge of the back of our property when the veggies did not make it. that way, no weeding. I owuld have to make a spot, and since they do not do so well, i probably will not. That spot gets a lot of rain run off- wet area- from the mountain ( as I call it). I htink that is why they did not do so well.
Adele -
Hi Colleen
It would be easier to go into the site for the recipe, plus, when you do, they will send you a recipe every couple of days too. the site is “Creme de la crumb”. You will love it- this recipe was ” strawberry spinach pasta salad with orange poppy seed dressing”. It was really simple- all you do is cook the pasta- the rest is just measuring and mixing.
It is awful about my BIL. I feel so bad for them having to watch him suffer, and wait for the end. I appreciate your prayers,a s well as those from all the girls on here- Sue, Gail, DD,and Barbara. Our Quacker community is full of wonderful, caring women. we are blessed.
Too bad you did not stay overnight with the girls. I knwo how you feel, as it is so much easier to be in your own bed. I would have done the same. At least you had a good time, while you were there, and that is all that matters.
Did Ron have fun at his Aunt’s party? How old is she?
the dentist went well. She did 2 overlays on the edge of 2 teeth that were losing gum area, so they would nto have a problem in the future. Did nto even need a Novocaine, as it was not a cavity.
I am also hoping nothing else breaks in here….LOL
Hope your day is going well!
Adele -
Forgot to say….Heather is finally gong to a specialist about her ears, and sinuses. Yahoo! the infection seems to be handled for now.
Adele -
Hey Gail!
I am sorry about your hair. I once heard that hair grows faster in the summer. I hope that is correct, and that you will see a considerable amount back before winter. It is good that it is underneath, and not showing as much. I am very happy your eye appointment went well. It makes the hair loss worth it to know you are good. Even thought I know it is hard for you. As we age, we have so much to deal with about losing what we had when we were young, you did not need another smack.
It is awful about my BIL. Gary was close to him, especially in the last years. They had lost contact when he was with his first wife, as she was difficult, and did some nasty things to my SIL. So, the contact was not good. When he brought me around to meet his brother, he heard some stories that shocked him, and then he realized why his brother did not call him as much anymore. he thought his brother did not like him, and that was not the case at all. They called each other at least once a week, until Don could not hold any conversation anymore. very sad.
You are not on a soapbox, my dear. People on the air should pronounce things correctly….LOL
The strike comes and goes. Like tonight, I just pulled out a frozen lock n lock from the freezer- we are having either soup or pasta- not sure what I pulled out….a mystery surprise dinner. I needed a break, as I am tired today. Tillie an dI are still eating the salad, but I think today will be the last day. It has some yogurt in the dressing, and I do not want to push my luck and get is sick, if the dressing is goign south. usually a recipe says how long you can keep it in the fridge, and this one did not. It tasted better the second day, as the macaroni and spinach took on the flavor of the dressing- yum yum!

Girls, I am finally here to catch you all up on a little, we are exhausted, but have enjoyed each moment we have had with our little fellow! They will be flying back home tomorrow, and I know that Neal has really missed them, but has had a chance to spend some time with some of his co-workers for a going away bowling party one night and dinner with others another night. We skyped with him yesterday while Sarah and the baby were here. He liked that. I don’t even know where or how to tell you all of the “problems” we have encountered with Sarah, but I think for now I will just say that it is crystal clear that she does not care for me or Jerry, and I don’t think that she ever will. I will tell you all more as time goes on; but right now I have said a prayer for us to only think of the love we have for Colin and not let anything spoil the precious memories we hold in our hearts because we both know that he loves us so much, and when it is all said and done, that is what matters most.
His little cake smashing party on Saturday was a big success. There were so many young families and children there. Thankfully, we knew some so we were able to mill about the munchkins comfortably. There were several couples of older people who either worked with her Mom or Dad or were neighbors. We had two older ladies that we introduced ourselves to and they, shockingly to us, told us that they were Colins babysitters all the time that Neal was in school in Oklahoma. Jerry was speechless; and I somehow regained my composure (if you all remember, we were told that we couldn’t keep the baby for Neal and Sarah because that is why they moved into their apartment one mile from her Moms home so her Mom could keep him). I am sure since they offered up so much information that they had no idea they were breaking our hearts as they talked, but I took Jerry by the arm and led him over to a secluded area and asked him to please just not say anything. Sarah’s Mom and Dad spent most of the afternoon inside, and she asked us to join them inside, so we did, but we wanted to stay out with the baby. All he wanted was to be held by one of us or Joey or Lisa, but Sarah kept telling us to put him down. Enough said for now. It upsets me.
Adele, I am so sorry about your BIL. What a horrible horrible disease. Please someone find the cure. Who’s grandchild said they would find the cure for diabetes? Mabey they will for Alzheimers as well. Our dear neighbor friends Dad passed from it about a year ago; and she still cries I think everyday for him. She is going through that fighting with her sisters right now over her sisters putting their Mom in a nursing home, and she doesn’t agree with them. I feel so sorry for her pain. Your mothers are so very fortunate to have such loving daughters. Why can we not just love and respect our older family members instead of just casting them away? I know you all are so sad.
On a much brighter note; so happy everyones tests came out good, and hopefully we have turned the corner to some wellness for a change. I am like you were Gail, my hair surely does need some serious TLC; but can’t seem to find the time to go have anything done. And with Colins’ first birthday being next Monday; I have gone a bit overboard in the spending department for him; so I am cutting back on other things. So I may have to look at all this gray for a while. If it would go all over gray, I think I would like it, but mine is the mousy gray/brown with a streak of white/gray right in the front. I bet your hair is beautiful even if it will take a while to grow all back.
I saw Harry Skatkin with his his candles. It seems like it has really been a while since I saw him on the Q. I saw a video of him showing their home and his candles all over in the different rooms, and it was just beautiful. I had ordered one of his candles in a beautiful cottage in a Fall scent of pecan, cloves, cinammon, and kinds of good baking smells, and in steps Jerry and blurts out he can’t stand whatever it is that I am “burning” but he doesn’t like it. I thought it smelled SO good, but I knew he would fuss every time I lit it; so I just gave it to my neighbor. I was so disappointed.
Love your recipes. I am kind of on a cooking strike too; but did do spagetti and garlic bread for us all yesterday. I made a little yellow cake with chocolate frosting to make some pictures of the baby yesterday, but Sarah wouldn’t let him taste it. She said the cake her Mother made for him on Saturday was made with applesauce frosting. So what can I say? Take care everyone. So glad everyone is good. DD, you did right by contacting the ADA people they should help you. Debra, you are doing so great. But you have really worked hard. Have a great day, everyone. By the way, Colleen, we had a screened in porch as a child, and spent many an evening out there eating. We spread newspapers on the patio, and ate our peaches or watermelon on the papers to catch the juice as it ran down our arms. Good memories Love, Barbara -
Barbara,
Oh my gosh! First let me say that I am so glad that you got to see Colin? I hope that you got to have those pictures taken too. Now I must say that I just want to spank Sarah. What is wrong with her??!!!
First of all why would you hire strangers to watch your child when you have grandparents ready and eager to watch him. As far as I am concerned the grandparents are best equipped to watch the child because who else besides their parents loves and cares for them more? And as to her telling you guys to put him down-first of all I can’t ever imagine Jenny or my former DIL telling anyone to do that. A child can never get too much love or hugs from their family members. And the icing on the cake-so to speak- is her not letting him touch the cake that you made. For heavens sake I’ve seen tons of babies have their first birthday cake made from the usual ingredients and not one of them have suffered one iota from that.
I can’t imagine how shocked you and Jerry were to learn about the other baby sitters. It would almost have been worth it to call her out on it and watch her stumble around for an excuse. I feel bad for Neal as he must feel trapped in the middle between his wife and his parents.
I really don’t understand why she would act this way. I kept hoping it was because she was young and that eventually she would mature but that doesn’t seem to be happening. I feel so bad and if she has made up her mind nothing that you guys can say or do will make a difference.
Lets look on the bright side. You got to spend some time with Colin and you got to skype with Neal and you will see them again at Christmas. So those are the good things.
Hugs to you, Barbara,
Gail -
Hi Adele,
I’m glad that Gary got things straightened out with his brother before he got sick. I will never understand why people like his first wife do some of the mean things that they do. They must have something fundamentally wrong inside them. I guess my biggest thing is I always want everyone to get along and will bend over backwards to keep the peace so someone that likes to cause conflict is just doing something that I cannot understand at all.
So what was dinner? Soup or pasta inside of the mystery lock and lock. By the way-if I have not said it before-I love lock and lock.
I would imagine that the salad with the yogurt would still be good after three days. That reminds me of Greg. If I don’t go through the refrigerator once a week and throw out things that have expired or are old leftovers he would probably have food poisoning once a month. He never bothers to check dates or will eat old stuff that has been in there for a long time. Whereas I, early in our marriage, ate some sour cream that had been opened and left in the fridge for too long and I was so sick that I learned a lesson and probably err on the side of caution where old food and use by dates are concerned.
I’m glad to hear Heather is feeling better and is going to see a specialist to get things looked at.
Have you seen Aizen and JJ lately? How are they doing? Lachlan will turn seven on Saturday. How the time flies!
Gail -
Thank you Gail, for your kind words of encouragement. Trust me, right now I feel like a balloon that someone just popped and deflated. It’s like all the air has gone out of me, and try as I may, it is hard to just get up because I wake up all through the night thinking of things, and end up crying. I get up around 6 and feed the kitty. He sleeps on the end of our bed. Jerry wakes up after a few minutes and calls me so I go back to bed and sometimes will go back to sleep but usually just lie there until Jerry is rested. I know I simply cannot stay in this down state; so my goal is to just keep a picture of our itty bitty close by on my nightstand, and look at that sweet smiling face and remind myself how much he loves Jerry and me and Joey and Lisa, and stop the sad feelings.BUT; if Sarah does ever visit in your area; you have my permission to spank away! I am so like you; I will go ten miles out of my way to avoid any conflict, and somehow during my career; I managed to handle 125 employees in conflict management; but when it comes to my own family; I guess I am just a dumbo.
We did have the photographer come over right after Sarah left. We made pictures inside and outside. She was so sweet and the baby did fine. I can’t wait to see them. She is vegan and rescues potbellied pigs. She has always been so kind to animals, even as a little girl. I remember how she and Neal when they were about 8 or so riding their horses all over the back pasture. They did that for years. I always thought one of our boys would end up marrying her, but life just took them all in different directions. She is married now too; no little ones yet. She lives not far from us with several acres and she and her little pigs have actually been on National Geo TV program.
Neal sent us a picture of him and the baby telling us that they made it home safely. So thank you Lord, for that.
I saw the cutest thing on TV. It is called I think a Dream Tent that goes over a childs bed at the head of the bed and has a light in it. You all may want to look into them for your little ones. They have girl and boy designs.
I love lock and lock too. There is one bowl that has a handle of the lid that I use for so many things. Hasn’t the lady who sells them lost a lot of weight? It seems to me that she has. She also seems so sweet and like such a genuinely nice person. I know that the hosts are salespersons by trade, but when they say “most people are buying two of them” over and over; it just gets to me. I enjoyed watching the Valerie Parhill shows too. She makes everythings look so pretty. I bet some of your homes look so pretty like that over the holidays. I am looking forward to the Fall season. I just love all the beautiful colors of Mums and the hay bales and pumpkins all decorated. And the weather is usually just beautiful. You should really be feeling good by then, Debra and be able to be out and about. Is it cold where you are DD that time of year? Or do you usually have the same weather all year long?
I know your family is just beside themselves if you are still on strike Adele LOL How is Tillie doing? I know she must love you so much for all the sweet things you do for her.
Take care everyone. We are having Chinese for dinner. I am just not in the cooking mood. Take care all. Barbara -
Hi Gail,
That is not to long a wait for your hair to grow back. It will not be too hard to hide the part that is cut. It is in style right now and my granddaughters would think that you are cool. They like their hair to look like that. So you are in style.
I have only seen Flamingos in the zoo also. I did not hear Jane mispronounce the word. I agree though she should get it right when she says the word. That is the business that she is in. Maybe she will get it right the next time. Someone may have said something to her.
I wonder if anyone else had trouble getting on this site last night. I tried three different times and could not get on here. I do not know if they were working on the site or what happened. I finally got on here tonight and so thought that I better stay on here and chat with everyone. I was really late getting the birthdays done though.
Is the fair still going on or is it over. Our county fair is in this area also. They have a race track that they have it at. We have not gone for a few years though. It is so crowded and it is hard to walk around. Our next big fair is Labor day and we usually make that one. They have those potatoes that they put the cheese on. I cannot remember what they call them. They cut them kind of like a curl. I am going to have to find out the name of those when we go this year.
That is nice that the girls show animals every year. They are lucky at getting ribbons. They must really enjoy doing that. It must make them feel good that their animal wins. They should be proud of the work that they do to win a ribbon.
My Teddy Ruxpin is finally on its way. It was on back order until the 8th of this month. I cannot wait to get it here so I can say that I have it and do not have to worry about it anymore. It is always nice when we get it here and then I know for sure that it is coming. I always worry that they will not be able to get anymore even when they are on back order.
Tomorrow we are going to elephant rock with Aliza, Danyielle, Mandy and the girls. We are not sure if the two of them are coming are if it will just be Brook. Kylie does not hang out with us as much anymore. She is a big college kid.lol
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi Adele,
I will go to that web site and see if I can find the recipe. They have a salad kind of like that at a restaurant down here. We usually get it during the summer. I wonder if it will taste like theirs. I have lock and lock also and it does keep food fresher longer the any other storage bowls that I have.
Ron’s aunt turned 88 I think. She was still working until about a month ago. She told Ron that she is thinking that she should go back to work because her grands like to get cash from grandma.lol She is really something else. She was always a live wire all of her life. Looking at the pictures you would not think that she was that old.
That is great that you did not have to have too much work done on your teeth. No Novocain is always good. That is one reason that I do not like going to the dentist. It takes for ever for your mouth to thaw out. Well what they call it.
I am glad that Heather is going to a specialist to get her ear and sinuses healed. That has to be miserable to have ear aches like that all the time. Maybe he will fix the problem quickly.
How is your shoulder and ankle doing? You have not mentioned them lately so just wanted to know how you are doing.I hope that the pain is finally going away and you are not having any discomfort.
I could not get on this site last night. I do not know what happened. I wondered if they were fixing the site again or if there was just a problem. I know it was just this site because I did not have trouble getting on any of the other sites that I get on.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.
Colleen -
Hi Barbara,
I am so sorry that your dil acted so badly towards you and Jerry. Gail is right she needs a spanking. She is not maturing at all. You know what they say what comes around goes around. So she may be having the same problem when Colin gets married. His wife might treat her the same way. So she should be thinking of that.
I am so glad that you got to get the pictures done with Colin. Your neighbors daughter sounds like a really nice girl. How nice that she took all the pictures for you and did them inside and outside. Those will be something that you and Jerry will treasure. That was good that you did not let Sarah in the pictures that would just bring back bad memories.
The cake was not make of applesauce so what difference did it make to have the icing made out of it. She really is in need of some counseling on what a baby can eat. She really has a problem. Maybe it is because this is her first child. If she has a second she may not be so picky with the second child.
Barbara you cannot let her get to you. You and Jerry are such good grandparents and you always treat everyone so kind. Colin will always think of you as his grandparents that he loves very much. Just cherish every moment that you get to spend with him.
Your Chinese sounds so good. We have not had Chinese in awhile. I love it but I think that I burned Ron out on it. Whenever we go out for take out that is where I want to go. He just wants a burger or Mexican.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night and a good nights sleep.
Colleen -
Hi Ladies,
Oh Barbara, Barbara, my heart broke for you as I read your post about little Colin & your dil. I’d like to smack her up along side the head a few times to knock some sense into her. That’s a horrible way to treat you & Jerry. I don’t get the whole thing about the cake. where does she come up with all those crazy ideas? Was she raised that way? It doesn’t make any sense. I’m so very sorry for you & Jerry. Concentrate on the happy memories you have & the pics with itty bitty to look back on. It’s a shame Neal didn’t get together with the photographer next door. she sounds like a wonderful girl. anyone who takes in potbelly pigs has to have a heart of gold. I’ll keep you in my prayers.Gail, yes I did live in a different part of the state growing up. I grew up in a small lumber mill town, about 100 miles southeast from Portland. It was rural but not totally country. we didn’t have a farm or anything like that. Just a good sized backyard with enough left over for a good sized garden. and there was a lot of fishing spots in the area, & my dad would go to Eastern Oregon hunting. Truth be told I miss that area. In the spring there are so many shades of green, with all the grass fields, farms, etc. and you didn’t hear the sirens screaming at all hrs of the day or night. But I’m sure it isn’t like that now.
I went to the eye Dr. & I don’t need cataract surgery any time soon. All I needed was a bit stronger lens on one side. the lenses are so scratched up she said all I need is a new set of lenses. I’ll get my new glasses next week.
Adele, I;m glad to hear you got that gadget for the corn. I wish I had one. I haven’t seen corn on sale much around here yet. It should be coming in soon.
They had lock n lock on clearance last week & I ordered the 14 piece set that has the butter dish in it. I got it in Iris. It did sell out. I love lock n lock too.
The weather did heat back up this week, but not nearly as bad as last week. The air quality is still pretty bad, with all those wild fires in the area. It just depends on which way the wind blows. But I hear it’s cooling down to the 70s this weekend with showers. We can only hope. I know I whined & whined about all the rain the first half of the yr, but it didn’t take long to dry out!!! It doesn’t start getting really cold here till late Oct. or so. We have an Indian summer in Sept. sometimes. It just isn’t this hot.
Well that’s all for tonight.
take care all.
dd -
DD,
I’m glad that all you needed was some new glasses. It’s always a relief when we go to any doctor and don’t have any major problems. It sounds like all of us Quacker ladies are also lock and lock lovers. It’s interesting because I have noticed that Chris who presents the lock and lock often wears Quacker clothes.
You have outdone yourself with this latest round of pictures! Butterflies made out of flowers! The perfect combination! The picture of the ray and the seahorse is magical-and I would love to be laying in that hammock right over those turquoise waters.
I was wondering since you live in the city and you never mentioned having a car do you live close to somewhere to purchase groceries? Do you walk there or take a bus?
I remember my sister used to live in a place in Indy where you could hear the sirens all the time too. Now she lives in a quieter neighborhood.
Gail -
Hi Colleen,
I didn’t have trouble getting on the site the other night but I may have been on earlier than you. You never know when they might be working on it.
Our fair is over but the one in the next county is this week. They will be all around us in the next month-it seems like each week a different county has one. I’m not familiar with the potatoes with the cheese-my favorite fair food has to be the funnel cakes. I don’t know why the food at a fair or carnival always tastes so good. It certainly isn’t gourmet! lol
I hope you had a fun trip to elephant rock. What do you do when you go there? Did Kylie have a summer job this year? Is she excited about starting college? What big step in life that is!
Gail -
Hi Barbara,
You are definitely not a dumbo and have done nothing wrong. If anything Sarah is the dumbo for not appreciating what wonderful loving inlaws that she has. Obviously she needs a lesson in good manners and respecting her elders. I don’t know what’s wrong with that girl! Here’s the thing-some people you just can not make happy no matter what you do-even if you bend over backwards to accommodate them. So here is the lesson that you have to learn-it’s like the old breakup line-it is not you it is them. And it is true. You have done nothing wrong so stop beating yourself up about it. She is the one with the problem and unfortunately probably nothing that you can do will change her attitude unless she decides to change it herself. It’s time to recite the old serenity prayer about changing the things that you can and accepting the things that you can’t change and having the wisdom to know the difference. But please don’t continue to lose sleep over this. When I am faced with a situation like that I always think of the words of our wise Jeanne Bice-if you can’t change something-change the way that you think about it. It really does help.
Your photographer friend/neighbor must have a very kind heart to rescue pot bellied pigs. I hope you love the pictures that she took!
Gail -
Hi Barbara
I always wanted a farmers porch, to sit and watch the world go by. i am really a country girl at heart, living in the suburbs….LOL
I am so terribly sorry about your DIL. What in the world is her problem? You and Jerry are such loving grandparents, and have done nothing to her, or that beautiful child. Applesauce frosting? Seriously? Will he never have any sugar, all his life? What is she thinking? A birthday comes once a year. Cupcakes are not a daily experience.
God, I have little tolerance for mean spirited people. I get that from Gary’s son, and I have all but eliminated him from my life. I got tired of pretending I like him, and have ended that for good. I am too old to care if he likes me, and I do not like him. It is now perfectly clear he annoys me, probably to everyone. But, you cannot do that with her. Mostly for Colin and your son. It is very hard to hold your tongue, and emotions in, and trust me, I knwo. I did it for 20 years, the last year I have not. Gary’s grand kids are older, and one drives, so if she wants to see us, she can come here on her own. She did drive her twice, and once with her brother. It was a nice visit. But, that stopped too. I do know she is busy getting ready for college, so that is how I will think of it. Gary does not think of it that way. he is very angry that she has never even called here to say think you for the money we gave her for graduation. they never call to say thank you for anything I send them, and Gary keeps telling me not to give them anything. That I canot do, as I give to all the grand kids.
Sorry for ranting, but, I knwo how you feel, and have been going through that for a long time. Mine is more due to a blended family, and nothing I have tried has worked to make this boy respect me, or his Dad. the only time Gary hears from him, is when he wants a part for his car. If his wife ever knew what he has spent on that toy car of his- a yellow 1970’s car, she would kill him.
I am so sorry you have to endure this disrespect, and miserable attitude from your DIL. It makes every visit stressful, when you should be able to just enjoy the baby. Karma is a bitch, as they say, and she will have a DIL some day too.
Can you tell I am tires today, and have no filter? LOL LOL
We love you Missy Barbara!! She is lucky you come from the South, and not Boston. or New York. Just think of what that Scaramuchi guys family would have said to her, with her miserable attitude. They would have ended up on the evening news. I hope that made you laugh!
Adele….your cranky Quacker friend who needs a nap today, and is goign to PT instead…..LOL LOL -
Well said Gail…..you have definitely had more sleep than I have….LOL
-
Adele,
LOL LOL You made me laugh with your no bullshit remarks! And the one about the Scaramouchi guy.
I was thinking-hmmm-someone got up on the wrong side of the bed today. Kick that PT’s butt! -
Hey Gailster!
the mystery date was twofold…the slightly larger bowl was gravy (Spaghetti sauce to non Italians), and the smaller one was soup. So, I have a small bowl of soup for tonight, when Gary gets home late. He is always late on Thursdays. Longer route for him. it was funny, as last night we had the kids here, and I did the Pesto with linguine, and told Gary to get the little lock and lock for his gravy on his linguine. That was when I learned it was soup. Thank God we had an emergency jar of sauce to use for him. It was pretty funny when he pulled it out of the fridge.
The boys were here yesterday, and hey had the butterfly cage with them, to release them in the yard. I got that for them on Easter. Two of the butterflies were fully formed, and flew away. One’s wings did not totally separate, and one looked even worst. They still let them go on the grass, and they fluttered aorund. I was hoping when they were free, their wings would totally separate, and fly away. We have no idea why they all did not emerge from their cocoons all good. I guess that is just nature’s way. The boys, heather and Steph, were thirsted to see them fly away. One came back later, and Aizen saw him flutter by him in the yard. he was happy about that.
Oh yes, both Gary and his brother were thrilled to be together again. You know, it is the x that seems to cause all the discord in the family. I am sure she is behind the attitude her son has with me too. (see my post to Barbara) It is a shame they lost all those valuable years. As of today, he is still hanging on. It is awful for the family to watch him suffer. This disease is awful.
Hope your day is goign well, and you have had enough sleep to be in a better mood than me….LOL LOL I am little miss cranky pants today.
Adele -
Hey Missy Barbara!
It makes me sad to think of you being sad. She doe snot deserve you to ruin your day over her nastiness. She does not have the right to ruin your good, happy self. Put on a smile, and just think of the baby, and your son- both of whom love you all to death! THAT will make her nuts.
Do not feel there is something else you could have done, You could not have done anything to make it better. The mean, nasty, comes from inside her and nobody can change that accept her. It sounds like she is perfectly happy being as miserable as she is.
I wish I had more comforting things to say today, but, i am at a loss. maybe i can think of something profound tomorrow, to put a smile on your face, and in your heart. You do not deserve to be sad for her.
We love you!!
Adele -
HI Ladies,
I hope you’re feeling better, Barbara. Don’t let her get to you, cuz that lets her win. and you don’t want to let her know that. Lay it at the Cross, & let Him take over. You won’t see results right away, but when it happens & you look back, you’ll wonder how you didn’t see it. I said some things I shouldn’t have last night but when I get riled up I let it out. I apologize if I offended you in any way..Gail, I couldn’t have asked for a better place to live as far as transportation goes. I did have a car when I first moved here, but ended up getting rid of it as I couldn’t afford the upkeep, etc. on a fixed income. I have to give God the glory, He put me in a perfect place. the grocery store is just 4 blocks away so I can walk to it. There’s a bus stop right across the street to take me to the nearest mall/Dollar Tree, as well as a larger grocery store. The Max line (train) is about 5-6 blocks away, going East (downtown) or West. One block over is the bus that takes me to the medical clinics for my PT & eye Dr. I have one of those “Granny carts” for the groceries, or laundry, or when I go out to Wally’s. It sure comes in handy. A friend gave me a bigger one but one of the wheels wobbles so I can’t use it as much as I used to. Is a shame too cuz there’s a little basket on the back of it for extra storage. I’m not mechanically inclined so I don’t know how to fix it.
Hi Ms Cranky pants,
I had my PT for my shoulder today, & he gave me a fuschia colored band for me to do stretches with. He thinks I may not need all 8 sessions at this point. Actually I had them cut me back to once a week instead of the twice a week. Bus fare adds up when you’re on a fixed income. I may not need the 4 sessions. I keep using my arm/shoulder just not lifting heavy things or sudden movements. We’ll see how I improve this time around. The temps are cooling down slooooowly. I can tell when the sun goes down they drop. By Sunday we’ll be in the mid 70s YEA!!! From what I can see ahead we’ll be in the lower 80s YEA all next week, I don’t see anymore 90s. We could see some rain showers Sunday!! Not enough to put the fires out tho. We still have the smoky haze. ICK
Altho I remember growing up down south of here Aug. we had a different type of haze. The farmers would burn their fields after harvesting them, & we’d get the smoky haze from that. But this time it’s wildfires.Oh girls, I saw the sweetest video on my FB newsfeed page this morning. I wish there was a way to forward it to you to watch. It showed a work crew rescuing an owl that was all tangled up in some kind of netting. the poor bird’s eyes were big as saucers & you could see it was scared to death. Anyway these workers took their box cutters & cut away at the netting till they finally got it all off the bird. when they got it all off the released it & it flew away. I wrote in the comment section, ‘My heroes, God bless these men for rescuing the bird”. It really warmed my heart to see that.
I went over to the farmers market when I got home from PT & got a couple boxes of the reddest strawberries, a some tomatoes. They didn’t have it last week due to the heat & unhealthy air. Nobody was out that day anyway. toooooooooooo hot!!
Well, that’s all from here.
Barbara, get some sleep tonight. Don’t let the ‘other side’ get to you.
Have a good day tomorrow.
dd -
Hi DD,
I’m glad that you have so much transportation available to you. You don’t get all that out here in the country.
It’s a shame that you can’t use that larger cart. I wonder if Critt would know how to fix it.
You mentioned taking the cart for laundry. Do you have someplace to do laundry in your building? That would be nice.
I’m glad that the farmers around here don’t burn off their fields after harvest as we are surrounded by corn and soybean fields. That would make the air awful. I would imagine that you can no longer do something like that because of air quality.
Thank goodness they got the owl out of the netting. I love feel good stories!
You used to be able to post videos on here before they redid the site. You could also cut and paste before. I miss being able to do both of those things. We used to post fun videos on here.
Gail -
Good Morning Miss Cranky Pants,
Now I want to be really cheerful just to annoy you. lol I remember in college I could never stand the people who were up early and so cheerful while I needed a good hour just to feel awake. I am better in my old age.
Maybe you should work out some sort of marking system for identifying the stuff in your freezer. Or do you like playing the game-What’s in this container? lol I’ll bet Gary was surprised when he found soup instead of sauce.
How sweet is that that JJ and Aizen came over to your yard to release their butterflies. Did they enjoy watching that whole process? I’m glad some of the butterflies made it. I suppose even in the wild not all of the butterflies emerge from the cocoons.
It must be so sad knowing that Gary’s brother could leave this earth any time. Actually, it was interesting when Greg’s Mom was in the nursing home the last few months of her life the nurses knew exactly when she was close to passing away. They called us in the night and within a couple of hours she was gone. I don’t know how they know when the end is so near. I should ask the doctor sometime if i ever remember when I am in there.
My friend the cardinal is out banging on the window this morning. I swear-they are the dumbest bird. Now we all know where the term “bird brain” comes from.
I hope you are in a happier mood today-I suppose that depends on if you are hurting from the PT. I always like to take a nap if i don’t get a good night’s sleep. Or even if I don’t. lol

Hi Colleen
I had to go to Pt yesterday, and then picked the kids up again, so I never got back on here to see the rest of the posts.
I think you are going to some fair today with the kids- thought I read that on a post to Gail. I hope you have a good time.
That site has great recipes, and I know you will like it. It is one of the best ones for food- accept King Arthur, f course. i like recipes with home made dressings, as they always taste so good.
The Pt is tough for the ankle, as it is triggering some soreness with the back. A lot of the work is, naturally, done standing up, and that is my weak point. I bet that is why the ankles are weak, as I cannot stand very long at all. My right shoulder has been aggravating me since I started PT for the ankle. I have been doing the exercises, icing the shoulder, and taking 2 Alleve on the days it hurts. I just have to do one movement, and it starts, and it can be a simple, lift your glass of water for a drink. I am getting a little testy. It just gets old after a while. then, I look around, and realize what I am dealing with is simple, compared to other people, so I have to put on my big girl panties, and suck it up. LOL
So, Gail is right again…… A big Amen from Miss Cranky Pants -
Hi DD!
I bet Gail loves the pretty butterfly pictures. Thank you for the ray of sunshine in all our lives.
I am glad the rain if finally gone in your area. We are getting more rain tomorrow, I think. I can feel it in my shoulder, and back. it is also very humid, whihc makes it achy too. Yuck.
that is great news that you do not have to have cataract surgery. Yahoo!!! Go DD!!!!
So, do you have nay funny dinner plans with Crit this weekend? Going to fool him again on another dish you make? that was funny. Did you ever tell him it was bought? he sound slike a good friend, and good company to be aorund. We all need good friends, every day.
I love the lock and lock containers. They are great, and last a long time. I am waiting to see if Temptations comes back with those beautiful Harvest dishes. I was just about to give in and a get a set, and they are out of stock. The price lowered, and I waited too long. Oh well.
Hope your day is sunny and bright.

Barbara and Gail
Great words to love by from Jeanne Bice, as always. the serenity prayer also helps a lot, in many situations. Well said.
I also agree, that lovely neighbor of yours would have been a great DIL, but, we cannot do anything about it. I also have a wish that Bobby would get more romantically involved with the office manager at his place- she is a great match for him. I wish we could pick our kids’ partners, like in the old days.
Adele -
Hey Gail
I am glad I gave you a good chuckle. Gary said I am testy. Unfortunately, I have a reason that really stinks. I have yet to mention this here, as once I do, it becomes real. Jhonny and Steph are having problems. He has left the house twice in the last month. The first time, he had some valid reasons, Steph listened, and changed some of her habits. He was exhausted, and aggravated that she did not drive, and on his one day off, he had to do all the errands and appointments. She got her permit, but failed the license, because she was just too upset to pass, and made one error- not checking the blind spots. She has not scheduled another road test yet, but, she is doing more outside the home. She even goes food shopping with Uncle Bobby at 7:30 am on a Sunday. So, I have to say, she heard his complaints, and did her best to make a change. He was happy, until Monday. when he again said he does not knwo how he feels, and needed some space. She is very upset, and this time, instead of being depressed, is getting real angry. I cannot blame her this time, as you cannot come in and out of a house. There are consequences, and hurt people all over the place.
What broke my heart yesterday was Aizen. We were watching the bunny in the front yard, and Bobby opened the door, and the bunny took off. Here is what Aizen said,”The bunny is gone, just like my Papi.” Of course I told him his Papi is not gone, but those few little words broke my heart. Now, I want Jhonny’s head on a platter too. I have to keep silent, as if he goes back, I do no want to be the enemy. It just stinks, all the way aorund. JJ starts school in 2 weeks, and he does not need this in his last year in elementary school.
Just like with Barbara, we are powerless to say or do anything, accpet support our kids as best we can. Needless to say, this is also impacting my very big Cranky Pants….LOL I have to keep my sense of humor, and you made me laugh with my new name. It fits!!
They have been together for 12 years. Seriously??? He is at his mother’s, and his mother is livid. There is no hint of another woman- Steph even checked his phone, and the bank records- no evidence anyone can see. For now.
Love you guys……Miss Very Big Cranky Pants…..kind of tired today, too. Lots of stress, that even chocolate chip cookies cannot seem to solve. -
Hi DD!
I am sure you did not offend anyone. Just look at what I wrote. I was a lot less kind to Barbara’s DIL. You had a good one to- give it to God to handle. Even with the Steph/Jhonny issue here, I am asking God to do what is est, as I am not sure what to pray for anymore. he knows way more than we do.
I hope your air clears out soon, as it is not o good to breathe in all that smoke.
Do you notice that when you pick up a glass, you get a bad twinge, that hurts you all day? I am wondering if your shoulder is triggered by the same movement mine is. I only go once a week too- just cannot make the time to go w twice. As long as you do your exercises every day, you will be fine with going once a week. I have that pink band too- that is a strengthening exercise, and the hardest one for me to do.
Hope you have a good day.
Adele -
OMG DD!
I forgot to say how beautiful the owl video was. I love owls. My granddaughter collects owl figurines.
Adele -
Hey Gailster
I keep getting interrupted while trying to read and answer the posts. With this one, I am finally done, and up to date on all the news. Whew!
believe it or not, I am in a better mood. Not great, (due to the worry) but not as cranky as yesterday. A lot going on here, for sure.
I check in with my SIL every day. Yesterday, she took him outside in a special chair the nursing home has, so he can be in the fresh air, and have the sun warm him. It was sad, as she said it probably did more good for her, than for him. I told her to breathe in the fresh air is always good, and always makes people feel better, no matter what condition they are in. She got a little teary. It is so awful waiting for someone to die. She does not want him to continue like this, and be in so much pain.
I remember when my Aunt Mary was dying, her arms felt cold, all of a sudden, and I called the nurse. They said it would not be long, as you die from the outside in- your extremities get cold, and the circulation stops from the outside, in. Maybe that is how they knew it would not be long. I am sure there are other signs too. My Auntie had cancer. She died just before I finished my MBA. That made me sad, as I would have loved her to see the degree, and be there for graduation.
That crazy bird is going to be dead on your porch some day. I am surprised he is still living. What is their life span?
I am like you. I do not get out of bed with a smile right away. It takes me a few. Now, I get up, take my arthritis med- Celebrex, and lay back down and watch TV while it works. I watch Morning Joe on MSNBC while I get fully awake. Some times I nod back off for a couple of minutes, and then Gary will yell from the office….did you hear that?
I hope Colleen is having a good time at the fair- I think it is a fair?? She has not seen her grands in a week, I think, so that will be nice for all of them.
Do you believe Ron’s aunt is that old and still wants to work? God bless her! I love to hear of elderly people who are still goign, like the energizer bunny. That is such a blessing.
Hope your day is sunny and good.

Adele, I just read Daphne Oz is leaving the Chew. She will still appear in reruns but won’t be back for the new shows starting in Sept. I know you watch and did not know if you knew this.
-
Hi Gail,
I am going to have to read about Daphne Oz. They said that she is not coming back on the Chew. I really like her and will miss seeing her on there. I wonder what happened. I notice that they never let her cook and she has some good recipes. I have made a couple of things that she has made.
Elephant rock is a park. They have grills there that you can cook on and they have these big rocks that you can climb. They also have a path that you can walk for exercise. We did not get to do a lot because it started raining right away. We did get to grill the hotdogs so everyone got to eat. While we were eating it started to rain. We sat there for awhile to see if it was going to stop but it did not look like it was going to so we came to the house. We had a really good day though. The girls stayed here for a long time and we talked and watched Aliza and her little antics. She is getting so cute and she is getting to say some words but you really have to listen. She will say a word followed by a lot of jabbering. So you have to pick out the words that she says. I wore my Duck shirt that day and she would look at me and say duck quack quack. It was funny. She said that about every time.
It seems like everyone loves carnival food. They always have things that taste different. Have you seen these places that are making chicken sandwiches and using waffles to put the chicken on? I would like to try that and hope that they have that at the Labor day picnic. They call it a picnic but it is like a fair. They have the booths and the rides just like the fair.
Kylie is really starting to worry me. She does not have a job and she is not looking for one. She is staying out late at night and sleeping all day. I do not understand what is happening to her. Hopefully she is just getting use to her new freedom and will buckle down when school starts.
I cannot believe that the cardinal is back. I wonder what it is that he likes so much about your window. You must have something really interesting to birds in your house. Maybe you need to get a stuffed cat and set it by the window and see if that will scare it off. It would be nice if they made those cats that when there is any movement by where they are they make a noise. That might scare the bird away.
Well that is all for now. Have a great night.
Colleen -
Hi Adele,
Sometimes therapy is harder when you first start. It seems to get better after you go for awhile. Hopefully that will be the case for you. I was hoping that the shoulder had stopped hurting now but it sounds like it is going to keep on while you are doing your exercises. You have to watch out for your back also. That must be hard to do all of that and still feel great.
How nice that the boys let their butterflies out in your yard. That is so cool to watch the caterpillars turn into butterflies. The boys probably enjoyed that whole process. It is nice that they make that cage (I guess that is what you call it) so the kids can watch this happening. It helps to get kids interested in science and nature.
The place we went to was a park. They have these big rocks that you can climb and the kids have a good time climbing. They have a few lower rocks that Aliza could climb on so she had fun. We were not there that long as it started to rain while we were eating so we had to come home.
That would make anyone cranky. I cannot believe that Johnny is acting like that. He is hurting the boys more then anyone else. Poor little Aizen is way to young to understand what is going on. It would be nice if he would just stay with his family and quit leaving. Maybe his mom needs to talk to him about this. Is that where he moves to when he leaves? She has to be getting tired of him moving in and moving out all the time. I can see why Steph is angry she is trying so hard. I guess this is none of my business but my oldest daughter went thru this with her x.
Well Miss Cranky Pants that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi DD,
That is nice that you have all that transportation so you can get around. We are like Gail and if we did not drive we could not go anywhere. It is really expensive to call a cab here also. They have to come from one of the bigger towns and pick us up and that is an extra charge.
Our weather is up and down. It is raining here though. So that is a plus. I am glad that your weather is getting cooler. Is most of the haze gone now? That must have been horrible on people that had to go outside. I would be in the house for a long time if it was like that here.
You really found some good things at the farmers market. I love strawberries there are so many ways to fix them. They are good in a lot of things that you bake.
The pictures that you posted are really cute and cheerful. I like that butterfly that you can see the rose thru the wings. Never seen a butterfly with such transparent wings like that. It is beautiful though.
You gave Barbara some good advice. She cannot let her dil upset her like that. It is hard but sometimes you just have to suck it up. I would probably open my big mouth though and that would be the end of it she would never come over again.
Did you and Critt enjoy your Chinese dinner the other day? I hope that you did. It is nice to have someone around to go eat with. You seem to have really nice neighbors. At least the ones that live close to you. Do you have plans for Labor Day?
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hey Sue
That is awful news. I really liked her. She added a “young mom” version to meal planning, and I think that is needed. I know she is having another baby, and wonder if 3 kids is too much for her with a work schedule. That is a shame.
Where did you hear that? I am still waiting to see whihc shows (for sure) are not coming back from last year. I love my sit coms, and they are my favorites. I know This is Us will be back, and am glad about that, as I loved it.
I like the summer show The Carmichael’s, as they are a scream. I cannot believe the issues they deal with as a comedy. I also have my favorite dramas- Blue Bloods, Scandall, how to get away with Murder, Madame Secretary….the list goes on.
What are your favorites?DD
The Eclipse is now all over our news up here. If you want to see it on this side, you have to go to Tennesee, I think.
Adele -
Hi Colleen
Well, I heard from Jhonny yesterday, and it makes more sense. He did not really go back. he was afraid because Steph was so distraught, and was trying to help her get used to the idea he was leaving. She thought he was staying, and he is not. He wants to come by the house after work each day, to see the boys, and if she needs to go out and get some space from the boys, he will stay with them. he also said he will help her with whatever she and the boys need. he does not want to be an absent father, and Steph was refusing o even talk to him, or have the boys talk to him. he also said he would do any appointments until and if she ever gets her license. He is paying for the apartment, food, and giving her some money each week too. So, I cannot be angry with him, as he is doing his best to continue to provide for them. That is rare today. He said he feels like she was not a partner, but another dependent. I cannot fault that, as I have said that to her myself- that she needs to do more, like the doctor appointments, shopping, etc, so Jhonny can just come home on his one day off, and relax. It is too bad she did not listen, as every time I said something like that to her, she got upset. It is very sad this has happened, and I hope Steph will continue to grow, and get her license so she can become independent.
We all feel terrible here, for Steph, the boys, and Jhonny. Jhonny has been a part of this family for 12 years, and we all love him like our own. I guess I am still hoping there is a change of heart, as I hate for them to be apart. I still have hope, but, I have to say, he really sounds like his decision has been made. He said this has been going on for about a year.
that park sounds real nice. Too bad it started to rain.
You are right, as the PT this week wa snto as bad as last week. Did I tell you I was able to do the bike, and have my legs go all aorund on the pedals? That was a huge accomplishment for me. I was pretty proud of myself.
I would be a little worried about Kylie too. College is starting in a couple of weeks, and she needs to get back into a work schedule. Maybe she is having a little too much fun, since high school is over, and she is an adult now. I hope, like you do, that come September, she gets back in the groove.
Hope your day is going well.
Adele -
Hi Ladies,
Well, it’s a gorgeous day out here. I think (I hope) the heatwave is over. the winds changed overnight, coming in from the ocean, bringing clouds along with it. I actually woke up a little cold this morning. I’ve been sleeping with nothing over me. For the first time in weeks the temp in my living room was under 80 this morning! It was sooooo refreshing to see the clouds & feel the cooler air coming in. the clouds did burn off & turned out a lovely sunny day!! And YES the smoky haze is gone, for good I hope!! From what I see in the forecast, temps will be a lot cooler in the coming days & weeks. I think the days will be cooler from now on. Oh as for the eclipse, I’m gonna get the last laugh. They’re predicting a cloudy forecast for that day. What did I tell ya??!! I know Oregon weather so well, I should be a weatherwoman on the TV!!LOL So much for that.Yes, Critt & enjoyed the Chinese food the other day. We found out the restaurant has a new menu but they didn’t include one with the order. But Critt went there while running errands & brought me a copy. We have plans for going to a seafood restaurant Monday afternoon. It’s my fave seafood place, & right now they’re having an ‘endless prawns’ special. I’m all in for that!!!!
I can feel the results of using the band for my PT. Hopefully it’ll work out so I don’t have to go thru weeks more of PT. Altho the PT guy is a cutie. The cougar in me is coming out. LOL
I think the manager here has slipped a cog or two. I heard one of my neighbors got an eviction notice, for when he was in the hospital!!!! Oregon law says that’s illegal on all levels!! He’s a Vietnam Vet, & had one of his legs amputated a few months ago. He was in rehab afterwards for several weeks.
This woman is NUTS!!!!! There will be all out WAR if she tries that b***s*** with me I can tell you that!!!! If you hear a loud explosion in the distance you’ll know where it came from!
The Oregon State fair will be starting the last week of Aug & runs thru Labor Day weekend. As a kid growing up we’d go every yr. Diane took me down a few yrs ago, & nothing had really changed. but it was fun seeing the farm animals, the quilts, & the flowers. and of course the food. You’re right about the best food being at the fairs. the reason it tastes so good is cuz they still use the old fashioned lard/grease to cook in. At least that’s what I think.. Everything tasted better yrs ago!!
Well, it’s dinner time so I’ll go get something to eat. I made myself hungry with all this talk of food.
dd -
Hi Adele,
That is really sad that all of this is going on between Steph and Johnny. Maybe if she gets a car and comes more independent they will get back together. It is just so hard on the kids and will be even harder if she does not let them talk to their dad or see him. That is nice that he wants to come over and stay with the boys so she can have some time to herself. I will be praying for them. It would be nice for all of them if Steph became more independent. She will feel so much better about herself and maybe they will get back together. This is just so sad.
Well you never know. If she becomes more independent he may think that she is more attractive. Not attractive but more like a partner should be. Just be there for both of them and it will be a big to them both.
You are doing great. That is quit an accomplishment to ride a bike. If you are sore especially. Your foot must be getting stronger all the time. You are really doing a good job and doing the exercises at home is really helping. Keep going and that ankle may quit hurting in no time.
If she doesn’t we will be over at my daughters house dragging her out of bed and taking her to school. She needs to get her drivers license but still does not have it. We have a car here that Ron wants to fix up for her but she is not doing anything to help with paying to fix it. He wants her to help with paying for parts and he will do all the labor. She could not ask for a better deal then that. I think that she is hoping that he will just give it to her. But he has decided since she did not try to get a job that she will have to help pay for it. I guess she needs to learn that cars and repairs do not come free.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi DD,
That is nice that your weather is going to be cooler. You really had a heat wave there. It is good that you have a window air conditioner. That is funny you were right about the cloudy day when they have the eclipse. The weathermen do not always know what they are talking about. We were supposed to have rain today and tomorrow. We now they have changed their minds and we are not going to get anymore until Thursday and Friday. We are better off looking out the window and predicting the weather ourselves.
That sounds like fun and some really good food. We do not have a really good fish place close to where we live. We have to go into St.Louis if we want good sea food. I am glad that you enjoyed the Chinese and you are going to go to this place. What is your favorite Chinese dish? Mine is cashew chicken. That is so good. I very seldom order anything else.
If the therapist is a cutie it may be worth going for more sessions. I am glad to hear that they are starting to help with your pain. Maybe you will be able to use your arm again really soon. It is good that you are using it all the time and not letting it get stiff or lock up. You and Adele are doing really good. Sue did really good also.
I hope that he fights that manager of your apartment building. They should not be able to evict him because he was in the hospital. He should write to the places that you wrote to. That is just so heartless. She needs to find another job. How can she treat people like that. Hopefully they will replace her if everyone keeps writing with their complaints.
You are right. It does have a lot of fat and all the things that we avoid in our daily lives. We all go there and buy the unhealthy food and enjoy it. I guess it does not hurt it is only during the summer that they have those foods. Everyone is more active in the summer. Well that’s my story and I am sticking to it. lol
I love the picture of the cross made by the setting sun. That was really pretty I have never seen one like that.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi DD
I love the sunset picture that looks like a cross.
Glad you and Crit are going out for dinner together. It makes it so much more fun to have good conversation while you enjoy a meal out, or at home. I am so happy you have your good friends in your building.
You were right about the eclipse. You do your Oregon weather.
That is an awful story about your neighbor who is a veteran, and lost his leg. I hope he contacts the VA for help, or his legislator. I can imagine he would not have been able to pay his rent while he was in the hospital, and recovering. He should not be evicted.
you are right, as the band exercises work on strength. Those you can feel the most. I use the band at least 2 times a week. I do the regular exercises daily, like you do.
Hope your weather stays nice and crisp!
Adele -
Hi DD,
Well the eclipse will happen whether it is cloudy or not. I know it’s an unusual occurrence but I just can’t get that excited about it for some reason. I know Amtrack had some train ride from Chicago to Carbondale to watch it and I heard the tickets sold out in minutes.
I hope the poor guy that got the eviction notice when he was hospitalized will get things worked out okay. It does make you wonder if the building manager is slipping.
Love the pictures of the horse and the puppies. I miss our dogs so much but I just am not sure if I want to take on more dogs at this stage in my life. If you get a puppy you have a full time commitment for the next couple of years and if you get an older dog you never know if you are inheriting someone else’s problems. Our last three dogs were just all such a good mixture and all got along so well together.
The unlimited prawns sounds good-I wonder what the difference is between prawns and shrimp? or is there a difference? I guess i will have to check with Mr. Google and report back my findings.
Gail -
Hi Colleen,
Boy I am obtuse. Until you mentioned it i never even realized that the sunset picture looked like it had a cross in it . Went right over my head. Swoosh!!!
I did not see where Daphne was leaving The Chew-although I haven’t been watching recently for some reason either. Maybe she wants to stay home with her kids for awhile.
Too bad it rained when you guys wanted to picnic but at least you got to spend the day with your girls and some grands.
I have not heard of the chicken sandwiches on waffles but since they serve chicken and waffles a lot in the south I guess that is a logical next step. I have had egg sandwiches on waffles.
Maybe Kylie is having a little teenage rebellious stage-although right before she is going to start college is not a good time for that. She has done so good so far getting the scholarships and such. I hope she snaps out of it and gets back down to business. We’re waiting for her to study hard and find that cure for diabetes. You can tell she’s a good kid just because she thought about being able to do that. It’s such a caring desire and shows what a good heart she has.
You gave me an idea. I wonder if i can find some motion activated Halloween decoration that I can put out by the window where the bird goes that might scare it away. Although sometimes he does beat on other windows back there so it just might make him change windows. Too bad we don’t have cats anymore-we never had that problem when we had cats.
Gail -
Hi Colleen
Thank you for the prayers. I feel the same way that you do. I am praying they eventually go back together. She needs to work on the license, like your granddaughter does.
Last night, Jhonny did the food shopping for them, so Steph did not have to go with Bobby this morning. He also stayed for dinner, and watched a movie with all of them before going back to his mother’s. I think that is so good for the boys, and I hope it is able to continue. It will all depend on Steph, and I hope she does not drop the ball on this one.
I do try to keep up with my exercises. If I miss a day, I can feel it. So, doing the ankle and shoulder exercises is now part of my daily routine. I think the PT will end int he next couple of weeks, at the most 4 more, until the next eval she does on me. I am very proud of being bale to do the bike. I have not been able to do it, since I had the knee replaced.
I think Ron has the right attitude about the car. No child should feel a car is a free ride. Marissa bought my Jeep from me, and has always been responsible for her repairs, as well as the rest of them. We do get their parts at our cost, whenever we can, but we do not pay for them, or the mechanic’s charges to put them in. If they do not learn to be responsible at a young age, they are screwed for life in money management. I have always felt strongly about that. the best thing we can teach the kids is how to mange their money and daily responsibilities.
Bobby is cooking today- making braised ribs. I am making cauliflower….LOL The kids are coming for dinner, accept Marissa and Amanda, who are working.
hope your day is goign well, and that you get to go to another fair!!
Adele
PS….in the kitchen with dave is on- my favorite show. -
Hi Adele,
Well it’s no wonder that you are stressed between your BIL and Steph and Jhonny. There are no easy answers to any of these things. I will just pray that everyone gets through it all and comes out stronger on the other side. Hopefully at least your house will start to love you again and show you by staying in good repair.
That was so sad what Aizen said about the little bunny though. Unfortunately little people suffer because of big people problems.
I hope at least the sun is shining and you will see one beautiful thing today that will fill your heart with joy even if it is only for a minute. It will be a happy thought to hold on to.
Gail -
Hey Gailster!
I did see one happy thing. A butterfly flew by the kitchen window, today and yesterday. I would love to think they are the butterflies the kids released a few days ago.
bobby is making braised short ribs today. He decided to do them in my crock pot, instead of the oven, so we will see how they come out. He did the prep work on the stove, of course. It smells good in here. Everyone is coming, accept Amanda and Marissa, who are working.
So, speaking of Marissa working. they had a huge sale at Yankee Candle yesterday, and she called me to get my Fall order for candles. I got a few of my Fall favorites. I love Harvest, Apple Cider, and Autumn Wreath. I burn a candle every day, and go through a large one about once a week, or every 2 weeks. I say a prayer every morning to keep everyone safe, when I light it. Around here, I think I need to light two…..LOL
I hope you have a good time at the Fair with the kids. We have one big one aorund here- the Topsfield Fair. It is the oldest fair in the country, according to all up here. We used to go every year, until I had the mobility issues.
I can’t wait for my little guys to get here. I got them both sneakers from LL Bean for the Fall, and am dying to see Aizen in his. he gets so excited with new shoes, or clothes. It is really funny.
The sun is shining, and some of the humidity is gone, so that is good too.
Adele -
Hi Gail,
I did not know that Daphne was leaving until Sue told us the other day. I am trying to find out why. She was really good on there. They needed a young mother to be on there. She kept the others up to date on all the new gadgets and things on the computer. I just wish they would have let her cook more. Maybe that is part of the reason she is leaving. They never let her do much.
She wants to be independent so bad. She does not realize the responsibility that comes with it. She has no idea what it is like to have to pay bills. She did have a phone and she was paying for that but she had to shut it off when she quit her job. I would have thought that would have made her want to go back to work. I do not know what is wrong with her. Hope you are right that she is being rebellious and she will get over this soon.
I did not think about Halloween decorations that might work. That would really be getting on my nerves if that bird was still doing that here. It was bad enough when we had ours and it did it for a short time. Really short compared to the one you have.
I cannot believe that it is almost time for the kids to go back to school. Time has passed so quickly this year. We did not do hardly anything with the grands this summer. I guess that made it seem to go by faster. We just kept waiting for a good day to have them over and do something. Maybe at some other date we can have them here and do something with them. Maybe Labor day week-end.
Well today was our bad news day. Ron’s aunt passed away today. She was 95.( not the same one they had the bd party for) Ron’s one bil is in the hospital they are not sure what is wrong with him. They had to take him to the hospital in St. Louis and they said he really looks bad. His other bil was told that there is nothing else they can do for his cancer so that is it. I cannot imagine how to handle something like that. I feel bad for Ron’s sister.
Well that is about all from here. Sorry if I depressed everyone. Have a good night.

Hi Adele,
That was nice that he did the shopping and stayed and watched a movie. I bet the boys really enjoyed that. I kind of wonder if that is giving Steph the wrong idea again. That is really a bad situation.
I think that you are doing really good with your exercises and really improving. That is great that you can pedal that bike. That really makes you feel liie you accomplished something. You should give yourself a pat on the back for doing so well. That is hard to keep doing when you have so much pain when you start out.
You are right and so is Ron. It is just hard to watch her going thru this. Just have to pray that she realizes that she has to buckle down and get a job and study hard for school.
Read what I wrote to Gail to get all the other news from here. It is just hard to write it all over again.
That was nice that Bobby did the cooking today. It is nice that he gave you a break. Maybe he has figured out that it is not good to complain about Mom’s cooking. Maybe he will help out more and eat what you cook. How nice to have everyone over for dinner. The boys will be so excited to get the new shoes. That will be cute to see Aizen try his shoes on. He is such a little cutie.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night

Hi Ladies,
We Got RAIN!!! Not a lot but enough to stir up the dust on the windows, which are now an ugly mess!!! It did clear the air of the smoky haze so now we can breathe again. LOL. actually I couldn’t smell the smoke it just made an ugly haze. Tonight I had to close my windows as the temps were dropping like a rock. Got a bit chilly. Maybe an early fall. I’m pretty sure the heatwave is over with. It looks like temps will be more normal from now on. No more 90s from what I’ve been able to see in the forecast.Oh I know the eclipse will happen, I just wonder if the one million people they’re expecting will make their way here, realize it. The gov has put the National guard on alert to help out if traffic gets out of hand. She’s already sent some to help out with the wildfires. To hear all the hub bub you’d think it was going to last all day, instead of 2 minutes. they’re preempting all the morning shows that day.
I can’t remember who asked, but we do have laundry facilities here. When I moved here, it was on the ground floor. But during the construction a couple yrs ago they put laundry rooms on different floors. two washers & two dryers on each floor.I’m sorry to hear about all the troubles everyone is having, & the passing of family members. I pray God wraps His arms around each & every one of you.
I;m glad to hear you’re keeping up with your PT on a daily basis, Adele. I have 2 more appts & I may be done. It depends on how the shoulder is doing.
Keep up the good work.
Well, that’s all for tonight.
Have a good week.
dd -
Hi DD,
I’m glad that you got rain to clear the air of some of the smoke.
I was the one who asked about laundry facilities. I’m glad that you have some in your building.
Now have you been able to put all your stuff back or what is happening with the fumigation situation?
I imagine even if they predict clouds the day of the eclipse a lot of people will still show up anyway as we all know weather is unpredictable.
Last night when I was out feeding the fish there was a hot air balloon high in the sky floating over our property. I waved but I doubt they could see me unless they had binoculars. They were higher than I usually see them and I wondered where they were going. The balloons always make me think of The Wizard of Oz.
Gail -
Hi Colleen,
From everything that I have read no one really gives a reason why Daphne was leaving The Chew. Since she is having her third child maybe she just wants to spend more time with her kids.
I hope things will change with Kylie too. We all wanted to be independent at 18 I think, but you are right-we also had no idea of the responsibilities of being an adult. I hope when school starts her interest in that will perk back up again.
Yes, it’s hard to believe the kids are starting school on Thursday. Why don’t they start on a Monday so that they get a full week in straight off? Plus they wouldn’t have to start before summer is over if they didn’t have days off for teacher’s meetings every two weeks. I really think that has gotten out of hand. It seems like every time you turn around during the school year the kids are off or have an early dismissal for something or other.
Poor Ron has had a lot of sad things happening in his family lately. I will be praying for all those who are affected.
Gail -
Hi Adele,
When I was looking out the kitchen window I saw a hummingbird darting around the flowers looking for some nectar. I will have to fill the feeders soon when they begin migrating.
How were the short ribs? I never make them but my Mom used to and for the life of me I can’t remember how she cooked them.
I used to burn candles all the time. I loved the smell. Now that I am older and don’t have such a good memory I switched to the flameless candles as I am afraid I will go to bed at night and forget to blow one out-and since Greg never pays attention to that sort of stuff I have no backup to help me remember. So if I want fragrance I use wax melts in an electric warmer. They work really well to fragrance-probably better than a candle.
I hope the kids liked their new sneakers. I hope you got a picture of them in their new shoes.
Gail -
Hi DD,
It is nice to be able to open the windows so you can get cool air. We just get hot air here if we open our windows. It is hot here again and humid. It is August so we have to expect it. I am glad that the rain has cleared the haze. Maybe you will have an early fall. It would be nice to have early fall here. I love the fall the colors are always so pretty during the fall.
That is a lot of people to come and see the eclipse when it is only going to last for a short amount of time. It will help a lot of the businesses there if there are that many people that come to watch it though. It will be nice if they stay and do some shopping and eat there.
There has been a lot of sickness here lately., All we can do is pray for everyone. I am sure that God is watching over all of them and will make their suffering easier.
You have been doing really well with your therapy also. You have been doing the exercises at home also. That is good that you only have two more appointments for pt. Is your shoulder doing a lot better now? Just keep up the good work.
The pictures that you sent are so cheerful. It sure brightens everyone’s day. I like the sayings on the two of the pictures. They are so true. Is is comforting to know that God is there on his throne watching over us.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi Gail,
I could not find anything that says what she has planned after she leaves the show. I have seen her do a few guest appearances on a few shows but that is about it. She has also written a couple of cook books. Maybe she has another book she is writing. She did have to put in a a lot of hours on the Chew and with three kids that is going to be hard. They are all so close in age.
It seems like the kids are getting so many days off that they could do with out. I cannot remember our kids having that many days off of school. They did not start so early in August either. It is just so sad that they take the kids summer away from them. It has to be hard for parents to plan vacations. I am glad that I do not have kids of school age anymore.
I was looking at the picture that Adele posted of the family riding in horse drawn buggy. It made me think of my grandparents. They use to ride in a buggy like that when they were young. Can you imagine how cold that was in the winter. They must have had blankets and other things in the wagon or buggy to keep them warm. They also rode horses if they wanted to get anywhere. It is strange it was not that long ago that our grandparents lived like that. Just think of all the changes that they witnessed in their lifetime and our parents also.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi Colleen,
It’s not only our parents and grandparents that have witnessed a lot of changes in their lifetimes. We have too now that we are older. We used to watch black and white TV’s, there were no cell phones or home computers and a lot of other things too numerous to mention. I don’t think my grandparents ever used horse drawn wagons. They lived in the city and probably used the streetcars which no longer exist either. I think they probably did take blankets to cover themselves with in the winter months when they rode in carriages. There is a place around here that does offer horse drawn sleigh rides in the winter and some time I would like to do that. I can pretend like I am in Dr. Zhivago, my favorite movie, where they had several scenes of people riding in sleighs. Of course I would have to be covered in furs-or just wearing a Dennis Basso faux fur. lol
How has Christine been feeling? I haven’t heard anything about her recently. Do you think she will ever be able to come back and visit you? Remember Cynthia that used to come on here. I wonder how she is doing with her MS too. It was nice of Debra to catch us up and post those pictures. She looks very different now.
My friend who had to have her stomach removed has already lost 40 pounds. I have not seen her but Greg has. It has been challenging to learn what she can and can’t eat and how much she can eat at one time. You have to change a whole lifetime’s worth of eating habits and it’s difficult.
Can’t believe that Kendall is in 4th grade this year. It seems like just yesterday that she was born, Lachlan will be in first grade and Piper will still be in preschool. Kendall and Lachlan start Thursday and I think Piper starts more toward the end of the month.
Gail -
Hi Colleen
Please tell Ron I am so sorry his Auntie died. God bless her, as she did live a long life. It is still sad to see her go.
I am wondering if your granddaughter is a little depressed. If she is in bad that long, and cannot seem to get moving, that is what I think about. On the other hand, if she is sleeping all day, and going out all night, then that is different. I hope she can start moving as college starts soon. IS she goign away, or staying home for a college around your town? Ether way, she will need a license and a car to get back and forth. Marissa got her car and license about 2 weeks before she started college. She was putting it off, but once she got going, there was no stopping her. LOL
The boys were thrilled with their new sneakers. Aizen’s are a little big. I hate to get a smaller pair as they grow so fast at his age. I got the boys a Thanksgiving shirt, as it popped up on the Kohl website- it is a turkey on a navy shirt, with the words, “eat Pizza” on it. I got it now, as if you wait, I may not be able to get one of their sizes- they are the same design. I bet Aizen will get a real big kick out of it, as he has a great sense of humor.
I am worried about Steph. All she is focused on is getting Jhonny back, and that does not look like an option right now. I need some prayers for her, please.
I am adding a prayer for your granddaughter too. We always worry so much about all of them, because we love them so much.
Hope your day is goign well!
Adele. -
Hi DD!
Thank you for the kind thoughts, and prayers. Also for the nice saying that we all need to remember that God is on our side. Some days I think He gets tired of listening to me.
That is good that you have laundry on your floor. In Heather and Steph’s building, they have machines on one floor only- the middle floor. They are always busy, and when they come here, a lot of times they bring a quick load of laundry with them. I do not mind, as i knwo how aggravating it is to do your laundry on another floor, and have to wait to use the machines.
The eclipse has been talked about over here to. We will get practically nothing- just that weird dark color in the sky for a small part of the shadow.
It is still very humid over here, but not as hot, so I still have the air on. It just does not run that much as it is not too hot- around 80. We have a hurricane that will affect the tides and ocean, but we are not getting any of the rain or wind, as far as I can see- unless it moves more.
Barbara may see some of the hurricane- I am just not sure, as I missed the news this afternoon.
I have the Chew on, and it is a repeat, but, they have the actor who plays Jonah on Superstore on. I love that show. Have you seen it?
I think it is so funny, that both of us, on two different eds of this country are dealing with shoulder issues. Too funny.
Hope your day is going well.
Adele -
Hey Gail!
When do the hummingbirds leave your area? I do not know when they leave New England. They are so pretty to watch. Once when we had the sprinkler out, a hummingbird was darting back and forth, and taking a drink from it. It was so nice to watch.
I have seen a butterfly come to the window once in a while. I like to think it is one of the ones the boys released.
How is everyone at your place? Has Piper done anything funny lately?
I could not sleep last night at all. I tossed and turned all night long. I hate those nights, as I wake up very sore the next day. It is what it is, as they say. there is a lot worst goign on for everyone else, so I will not complain. i am goign to make myself a hot fudge sundae though, to feel better…LOL LOL
I hope all is going well for you today. When is the last day on the prednisone? I bet you will be thrilled when it is all done.

I do not know why Daphne is leaving the Chew. The article did not say & I do not think it is our business. I think it is because she has 2 small children & expecting a third. So she would be taking time off anyway. I could understand why she would want to be home with her children for a while. It sounded like it was her choice and she is not being replaced. I think since there is no replacement that if she wanted to come back sometime in the future she could come back. But it did not say any of these things.
My neighbor came over yesterday with a big basket of apples for me from his trees. So I made applesauce & kept a handful to eat. I thought I would do it right away as it is to heat up later in the week.
Gail I liked Dr Zhivago too but hate cold & snow. As far as horse & carriages. The Amish here are out in all kinds of weather in theirs. I guess they just bundle up. It would be too cold for me. The Amish that care about their animals bring a blanket for the horse for when they are just standing.
I thought Lachlan would be in 2nd grade wasn’t he just 7. Maybe that is it as his birthday is so close to the start of school. Now I am hearing they are closing the schools for the eclipse. No wonder they go half the summer. Every time there is a snowflake they close. We did not have all that when we were in school.Colleen maybe your granddaughter will be missing her friends when everyone goes to college so she is trying to be with them now as much as possible.
-
Hi Everyone,
Just saw an email from Barbara and she said both she and Jerry are sick with pneumonia. So we need to say some prayers for a speedy recovery for them. I had pneumonia last summer and it did take while to get over it. We are good prayer warriors and will send thoughts and prayers to them. -
Hi Ladies,
Just a quick note to let ya know there’s a QF show tomorrow (Wed) at 2 pm ET. there’s one tonight but is in the middle of the night out there, 4 am.Sorry to hear about Barbara & Jerry!!! I pray they get over it soon. It can linger on & on. Sending prayers.
this nightmare with the bugs may be coming to an end, I HOPE!!! Apparently there’s been soooooo many complaints that the head office is doing something about it. I was taking my garbage out the other day, & on my way out I saw “suits” coming out of the office with the manager. I saw some friends that I stopped to talk to for a minute. When I came back up stairs, who should be up here but that group I saw earlier. Last night I found a notice on everybody’s door stating there’s going to be another inspection Friday, starting here. They’re bringing in a PROFESSIONAL exterminator to do the job.
IT’S ABOUT TIME!!! They’re gonna do the whole bldg. instead of a room at a time. Which is what they should’ve done in the first place. We’ve Never had it this bad in all the yrs I’ve been here. There’s never been 4 or 5 sprays for one apt. When the pros would come in it would be one spray, then a week later they’d come back & check, & there wouldn’t be another spray. They got it done in one treatment!!! Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Enjoy the show.
dd
PS. The little red dot in the photo is the sun coming up when we had that haze in the air. I know it’s tiny but that’s what happens when you use your phone camera. -
Hi Gail,
My moms parents and grandparents lived in the country and they farmed. When my dad got a job at Curtis Right as a night guard they moved into town and sold the farm. My uncle did farm for a long time and then he retired from that and moved into town. They had a dairy farm and it was interesting to see how they milked the cows. By the time that we were old enough to go to the barn they were using milking machines. My dad’s family always lived in the city.
Christine is feeling a lot better. She does have trouble with her asthma and that worry’s me. I do not know if she will ever come back here or not. She had problems with that blood clot and she was not able to fly and now she may not want to. They are both welcome here anytime that they want to come. I do not know why she is not coming on here. I will have to ask her when I talk to her next time.
That must be hard on your friend to have to learn to eat differently and not be able to eat a regular meal any longer. That is a lot of weight to lose. I hope that she is feeling okay though. That is really rough. I do not know what happened to Cynthia. The last time that I heard anything from her she had to move out of that house they moved into and she did not write anymore after that. Hope that she is ok. That was nice of Debra to let us know how she was doing. Wish someone would hear from Debbie.
It just seems so odd that the kids are getting that much older. They could stop for awhile. Just let us get use to them being as old as they are. Aliza is growing so fast and she will not be a baby very much longer. She still likes to be held and hugged but that will not last much longer.
I tried that lemon zucchini bread that Christie had on Chics Night In last week. It is really good. I may make some more and put them in the freezer. The bread itself does not have that much sugar in it just one cup. So if I do not put the glaze on it then it is not too bad and does not bother my sugar count.
Well that is about all from here. Thanks for all the prayers. This is the best group to belong to. Thanks for letting us know about Barbara and Jerry. I hope that they get better soon.
Have a good night
Colleen -
Hi Adele,
My grand is not depressed. She stays out all night and then sleeps all day. The kids that she is hanging out with all are going to the same college. They mostly go to the junior college here and then after the two years they split up and go to the different 4 yr colleges. She is just going too far with her freedom thing. She will find out that be an adult comes with a lot of responsibilities. She is just having a hard time learning that.
It would probably break Aizen’s heart if you had to take his shoes back. He will probably grow into them before you know it. You are right kids his age grow fast. The Thanksgiving shirts sound really cute. The boys will really like them also. You were smart to buy them right away. I agree if you wait they will be gone in the boys sizes.
I pray for Steph every night. She really needs to start getting her life in order in case they do not get back together. She is a smart girl and can do anything that she sets her mind to. It is just sad that she does not realize it. Right now all anyone can do is pray for her. Marissa was smart and got everything together so she could go to college. Wish that Kylie would focus on what she wants to do with her life again. I just hope that she does not blow it.
On the Chics night in board they have a recipe for lemon zucchini bread. I baked it the other day and it is so good. So if you get some zucchini and want to try it I would recommend it. What I really like is it does not have that much sugar in it.
Well that is about all from here. Thank you for all the prayers. Our grands really need them right now.
Colleen -
Hi DD,
Your letter did a lot of good. You were not the only neighbor that was complaining. That is really good news that they are bringing in a professional and it will all be over with soon. I hope that they gave that woman a good talking to. She was terrible to all of you over that spraying. I will keep my fingers crossed. Hope that they get this over with and you can put all of your things away. That is terrible to have to live out of bags all the time.
The haze was really bad in your area. The sun looked so small . Is the haze coming back or is it going away finally. Hope that it is going. You sure do not need to breath that when you go outside.
The picture of that big house reminded me of a house that is in one of the little towns around here. They use to have a lot of lead mines. The president of the mine company lived in a house like that and they say the inside is beautiful. All the woodwork an the carved base boards or boarder. They have people living in there and I really think that they need to try and restore that house back to the way it was and put all the furniture that would have been in that house in those times. What a waste of a good part of history. The people around here could learn about their roots. They could have done that with so many of the buildings around there. They have a lot of the old houses that the miners lived in when they worked the mines. The story they tell about that is really interesting.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hello everyone
Just a note that Barbara and her husband have walking pneumonia. Please add a prayer for her. She will be on, when she feels better.
Hey Sue:
I am still laughing that the kids have the day off from school. You would think it was a real teachable moment, all of the school watching the eclipse together.
School here starts the 29th of August.
What a nice neighbor to bring you the apples right off her tree. That was a great idea to immediately do the apple sauce, so ti is nice and fresh. I always have apple sauce with my chicken- baked or fried. Yum, yum.
Hope your day is goign well.
Adele -
Hi DD
You can see the haze from all the smoke in the pic you took. I hope the air gets cleaned out soon. Never good to breathe in all the time. These fires everywhere are awful.
I cannot believe you have been sprayed by someone who is not a professional exterminator. Who does that for bed begs??? OMG- you have to go through all that prep again. I am so sorry for you. You are always in my prayers.
I hope the “suits” have some positive affects on your manager. You should not be tolerating her craziness.
I love the Snoopy pic. He has always been a favorite of mine. -
Hi Colleen
That is a shame about Kylie. I hope she gets it together before starting school. Sometimes kids have trouble with their new found freedom. I hope it is just a summer thing. I have added a prayer for Kylie too. Thank you for the prayers for Steph. She is so devastated, and needs to get moving in the right direction, as her kids need her to be strong. Kids get worried when they see their mother upset all the time. Thank God Heather is just upstairs from her, and is a huge support to all 3 of them.
There is a Quacker show on today. I already got the half sleeve Halloween shirt, as it has been too hot to wear any of my long sleeve or 3/4 sleeve shirts, not to mention my 2 Quacker sweaters. I think short sleeve Halloween shirts were a fabulous idea.
It is hot and muggy here today. I am dying to sit out on the deck for a while, and the humidity has been gross. Oh well. Sooner or later, it will stop.
I do not know about you, but, all these things happening in the news are really upsetting. I am afraid we are on the brink of a civil war. That poor girl who was killed is just awful, and those 2 policemen too. For God’s sake, this is 2017. Racial divide, when so many mainlines are bi-racial? Seriously? Why are we goign backwards? Everyone is equal, no matter their race, religion, nationality, income, etc. People need to be kind to each other.
Sorry for the rant, but, all this hate really upsets me, and nobody up here wants that hate in Boston on Saturday. I am so glad Amanda is not working Saturday, as I would have been a wreck. But, other people’s daughters and sons are working in Boston on Saturday. I am praying for peace up here this weekend.
Hope your day is good!
Adele -
Hi Adele,
That is nice that Heather is so close to Steph. She will need her mom there to help her stay strong. I appreciate the prayers they really do mean a lot. Prayer does so much.
I have not watched the quacker shows yet. I have them on the dvr. Will watch them when I get off of here. Don’t think that I can afford to buy anything right now. Will have to wait for awhile. I can always write the item number down and maybe order it later.
I am getting where I do not like to listen to the news. It is just to depressing. They need to start reporting on the good things that happen in the world maybe that would help to stop some of the violence. Maybe if they did not give the people that are violent do much attention they would stop. I think that a lot of them like their 15 minutes of fame. That is a shame that they cannot do good and the news would report that. Look at all the coverage that woman got when she saw her son on tv participating in that riot. She went and grabbed him and made him leave. More parents need to do that.
That is good that Amanda is not working there this week-end. It is just a shame that they are affecting people lively hood and stopping a lot of people from working. That is not fair to those people.
You are not the only one ranting. So we can rant together. Maybe if more people did all this would stop. Well that is all from here. Have a nice day.
Colleen
Will pray for Barbra and Jerry -
Sue,
I forgot about the Amish when we were talking about horse drawn carriages.
Jenny held Lachlan back for a year since his birthday is close to the cut off date of Sept. 1 and she didn’t think he was quite ready.
Gail -
DD,
Glad to hear your letter writing got results. Hope they get this over and done with very soon. It has gone on far too long.
Gail -
Hi Colleen,
Dairy farms are interesting places to visit. They used to take the kids on field trips to dairy farms around here. I wonder if they still do that. I grew up across the street from a bull barn which is an entirely different matter. They used the bulls to collect sperm for artificial insemination. These were all very fancy bulls from prize winning bloodlines.
I’m glad to hear that Christine is doing well.
I don’t think I’ve ever tried any of the Chick’s Night In recipes. I read them but never make them. I am just a lazy cook in my old age.
I sure hope things change for Kylie when school starts.
Gail -
Hi Adele,
What are they doing in Boston on Saturday? Having some sort of rally? Sometimes I think the world has gone crazy. I just don’t understand people that preach hate.
I think the hummingbirds start leaving in September. It’s a long flight down to Central America when you only have teeny tiny wings.
I think a hot fudge sundae sounds like an excellent idea-or better yet my favorite a turtle sundae!
My last day on the prednisone is tomorrow-Hooray!
Watched the cuts on AGT last night. I still think they should put the top seven right through rather than having the instant save and the judges decision. I guess they do all that for the added drama as a one hour results show is really more time than they need. They could do all that in a half hour easily. That’s why I DVR it and skip the boring parts. Like Grace Vanderwall-still can’t believe she won last year.

Gail get ready for some fish. I don’t know if you talked to Greg but he & the guys caught a bunch. Photos on Facebook. Jenny had the kids photos of 1st day of school. See what you miss on Facebook.
-
Hi Gail,
When we were kids we enjoyed going there. Do not think that I would be all that impressed now in my old age. We just thought that it looked like fun to use the milking machines but now I know that it is a lot of work and responsibility. It is funny how we look at things as we get older. i have never seen a bull farm. That is interesting also. I sure would hate to hook them up to that machine. Especially if they decided that they did not want to do that.
I tried the bread and one of the dips. She has some good recipes sometimes. Some of them are too much work and I do not want to do that much. She is young and likes to bake. I think that her daughter baked on of the things that she had on there.
Kylie starts school on the 22 August. So far she acts like she is really ready to go to school. She had to go to the doctor today for a sore throat. They told her to gargle with salt water and take Tylenol if she had a headache. My daughter got upset because the nurse told her it is the last time that they can see Kylie. Come to find out she is taking her to a pediatrician. I told her I was surprised that they took her for this long. I guess Mandy does not want the girls to grow up.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.
Colleen -
Sue,
There won’t be that many fish as they can only bring two back. For the most part they catch and release anyway other than what they eat up there and the two that they can bring back. I always joke that per pound those are very expensive fish when you factor in the cost of the trip. lol I know that I miss seeing some things on Facebook but that’s okay with me.
Gail -
Hi Colleen,
I chaperoned some of those trips to dairy farms with the kids and even as an adult I found it interesting because they would also explain what they did with the milk and how much they got a day etc. Of course that may be due to my extreme nerdiness too. lol As to the bulls-lets just say it involved a teaser cow etc. They were also very loud when they did that and you could hear them bellowing over at our house. When I would have friends over to spend the night if they didn’t live in the area they would get up in the morning and say what in the heck was all that noise? It got to be a running joke with all my friends.
I’m glad that Kylie is ready to start school. It’s funny that you said that about the pediatrician as it must depend on the doctor. Just last week on the Today show they were talking about how some pediatricians will see a student through the college years-so I guess it just depends.
Did you have any of Jeanne Bice’s books she had some pretty easy recipes in her books. I also have two of Mary Beth’s cookbooks from years ago and I think one of Bob Bowersox’s too. I have a whole cookbook collection. Too bad I don’t use them that much anymore. lol I just don’t enjoy spending all that time in the kitchen anymore like I used to. I would imagine a lot of people feel that way when they get older. Of course, I still like to eat so that’s a problem. lol I remember this one married couple around town here-they never had any kids and they would go to a local restaurant every night for dinner. I always thought that was kind of odd. It would seem like some nights you just would want to stay home.

Hi Colleen
Boston is in a panic, and mobilizing for tomorrow. The Mayor, Governor and Police Chief are wild about them coming here. they are closing the swan boats an Frog Pond at Boston Common, and they have never been closed in the history of this city. They had a press conference, and are saying do not try anything here, as we have always been inclusive in this state. They are putting up more security cameras, and the entire downtown will be on tape.
Everyone up her is mad. We do not need to spend this amount of money on these idiots. It will be in the millions for police and staff time to keep the city safe. This is ridiculous.
We have not seen the woman taking her son out of the rally. Good for her! That poor mother who lost her daughter. I feel so bad for her, and the families of those 2 police officers. I am praying nobody dies up here tomorrow.
I am also continuing to pray for all our Quackers, their families, and health needs. We all benefit from our prayers, from coast to coast.
I saw a new french terry tunic this am, on an email. Also a new butterfly shirt for the Gailster. Tillie and I got some, as you now how much we love Halloween and the Fall up here. I am a sucker for those, like Gail is for the butterflies.
I am waiting for the cream cheese to get to room temp, so I can make Heather’s favorite bar cookie for her birthday. We are doing her party on Sunday. The bar cookie has to be served cold, and it is the next day. It is made with the tube of chocolate chip cookies, and a cream cheese mixture in between, with powdered sugar on top. Very yummy!! That is something positive for today- today is her birthday.
I hope you have something happy for today too. Too much sadness all around us.
Adele -
Hey Gail and Sue- the same thing happened to JJ, and will happen to Aizen, as he was born in December. JJ missed the cut off for school by 9 days, so he is older than a lot of the kids in his class. But, he is still a lot smaller than all of them. JJ looks 2 years younger than he is, as he is so small.
Adele -
Gailster
I missed the cuts last night, and have no idea who got through. Who did get through??? I cannot believe I missed it.
Well the Boston thing is the same group that was in Charlotrte applied to come up here- they are goign to a lot of big cities. They tried to stop it, but could not. There is a huge amount of people goign to the Boston Common who oppose white supremacy, since this has been announced, and the hatred seen in Charlotte. the one thing is, Boston people mobilize very fast against any kind of hatred for anyone, regardless of their race, religion, or sexual orientation. You will see there will be way more reasonable thinking non-racists at this one. But, everyone is afraid of the trouble the Nazi white supremacists will start. the Police Chief said he has seen a lot of social media, saying to bring bottles to throw- from the white supremacists, of course. They will not allow any weapons, back packs, clubs, etc at the rally and anyone having one will be detained- per police, Governor, and Mayor. Everyone is saying…not in our city….. I am praying nobody gets hurt, as people are so upset they have the nerve to come here, with their messages of hatred. Apparently, one of their leaders has chickened out, and said he will not be coming- good!! I am hoping the rest of them change their minds to. I am so scared for the police, and all the good people, and pray nobody gets hurt here tomorrow.
On the positive side….I cannot believe those tiny birds go so far. Wow.
Did you see the new butterfly shirt, and Fall/Halloween tunic??
It is about to pour here. read my post to Colleen for the rest of the news….LOL
By the way, I still cannot believe Grace won last year either. I still think that was nuts, with all the other talented people they had last year. Who would pay to see her in Vegas? She does not seem like an act that would work there.
Hope your day is good, with no prednisone!
Adele -
Hey Sue….I will have to peek at Facebook to see the kids and fish.
Adele -
hi Gail,
The milking process would be interesting but this went on for them every day year after year. So my mom and dad and the other adults were use to all of it so it was not as interesting for people like that. So it was not a big thrill to go there all the time.
The thing about the bulls is really funny. I can imagine your friends were ready to go home when they heard that noise. I did not realize that they got that loud during that process. I guess that you learn something new everyday. I wonder if they still do it the same way or not. That poor cow having to stand there thru all of that. Was it a real cow or a fake one?
I did have all of the books that Jeanne Bice wrote. I gave them to Christine so she could read them. I do have the one still that had all the recipes in it though. I have never tried any of them out of there yet though. She always seemed to make her for large groups if I remember right. That is one thing that is hard to get use to still around here. Making meals just for two. Sometimes when I cook you would think all the kids still lived at home and were going to eat here.
I do not have any of the cook books that the hosts on qvc put out. That was a long time ago when Bob Bowerbox was there. That was such a shame when he left. I had heard that he was on another shopping channel for awhile but never did hear if he still was or not. He may be retired by now he was close to that age it seemed like.
Well that is about it from here. Have a great night.
Colleen -
Hi Adele,
I am praying that they do not show up in Boston tomorrow. That is terrible that they are just going from city to city and causing trouble. They are boycotting St Louis because they say that we are prejudice against blacks and do not hire fairly. That is just in the city though. I do not know how they can say that though. They have a lot of people of color working in St. Louis. I think right now it is just a bunch of trouble makers that are starting all of this mess.
That is terrible about those people dying. It is a shame that these protesters do not think of the families of the people that get killed or hurt. The police should not have to worry about their lives if they go out to protect people. It is not right what they are doing to all of our police officers.
I think that I am getting to be a sucker for anything that is Quacker. I have so many tops and jeans of theirs. I may have to stop watching for awhile until I get my closets clean out and make room for new things. I cannot hardly squeeze things in the closet now. I keep saying that I need to clean it out but then I think that I am not ready to get rid of any of my quacker clothes.
Tell Heather that I said Happy Birthday! Those cookie bars sound really good. That would be something that the grands would enjoy. Well everyone would but the grands would eat more of them then anyone else. Sounds like a good day for everyone there.
We went on a picnic today. We took Ron’s bil that has cancer and his wife.(Ron’s sister) He had told Ron that he wanted to go on a picnic so we took them It was not too bad when we went. We went early and ate early before it got too hot. The place where we went was up on a hill and there was a really nice breeze up there. So we had a really nice time and he got to go on his picnic. Now he wants to go back and bring his scooter and walk the path to the river. Well ride to the river. So we will do that next. Ron is trying to do everything on his list before he gets where he cannot do anything anymore. So we had a really good day today so that is my good news.
Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi Colleen’
that was a nice day you all had. I bet Ron and his brother were glad to spend the time together too. Is his cancer gone? I hope so. I will add him to my prayer list.
Thank you for the birthday wishes for Heather. We are doing her celebration tomorrow. I did the baking, so i have nothing else to do, accpet get her gifts into a bag.
It is very humid and hot here. I have no intention of sticking my nose outside today! We are supposed to get thunderstorms, and then the humidity is to go down. It is gross.
I have to say, I have never been prouder than I am today of being from Boston, and Massachusetts. They completely shut down the white supremacists at the rally. Only a few showed up, and then left the area, with police escorts. They did have a little skirmish, bit the police stopped it ( when the Nazi/crazies were leaving the Boston Common.) It was started by the Nazi supremacist group, of course. There were thousands of protesters walking the streets to the Boston Common, and at the Boston Common to protest Nazi ‘s and white supremacists. So, today you can say that good triumphed over evil. I bet you will be able to see clips of it on the news.
That is what needs to happen. When good people do nothing, evil triumphs. I forgot whose quote that is, but, I have always said it, and loved it.
That is enough of my soap box for today. I am so glad nobody got killed or harmed.
I hope your day is going well, and it is not as hot as up here.
Adele -
Hi Ladies,
This is going to be short. I hurt myself earlier this week & I’ve been recuperating since. I haven’t felt up to doing much. I’ll explain later on. Please send up some prayers for me. I’ve been a lot of pain & am on heavy duty pain killers. Thank you
ddPS. we have eclipse mania out here, the stores were packed today, people stocking up on groceries!! I don’t think they’ve been this busy when there’s a bad snow storm headed our way!! It’s NUTS out here!!! People are coming from all around the country, & the world. For 2 minutes of darkness!!!!
I’ll be recording it off the tv & with my phone. Just put it up to the window to record the darkness. I don’t plan on looking at the sky. -
Hi Adele,
That is Ron’s sisters husband. Ron and him have known each for years they came from the same town. The doctor gave him six months to 1 year to live so we are trying to do the things that he wants to do before he dies. The picnic was on his list so we took him. The next thing is to take him to that path that goes to the river so he can go and see that. He will have to ride his scooter since he cannot walk that much anymore. I wish that his cancer was gone.
It is hot and humid here also. We had a couple of cool days and then it warmed up again. They are saying that we are supposed to have a week of cold weather sometime this month. I cannot remember when they said that is headed our way. Maybe you will be getting the same thing there.
That is great that Boston shut them down today. Wow!!! The Nazis are just as bad as all these other groups. Any of those groups that preach hate not matter what group they are they need to be stopped. I hope that every state does this and maybe that will show them that we are not going to put up with this garbage anymore. I hope what Boston started really catches on. I would be proud to say that I was from there also.
You are not on a soap box. You are just proud of your state for what they did today. I just hope that other states learn from this. We need to stop all of this stuff. Stand together.
Hope that the party went well for Heather and all of you had a good time. Well that is about all from here have a great night.
Colleen -
Hi DD,
I am so sorry to hear that you hurt yourself. Please just take care of yourself and write on here when you feel better. We all understand. Rest or what ever you have to do. You will be in my prayers.
That sure is weird that people are traveling that far just to see the eclipse. They must be a lot more excited them I am. Hope that you did not need anything from the store. The way you feel it would have been hard to stand in line.
Thank you for posting the pictures. They are so cute. It was nice of you to do that when you feel so bad. Please take care of yourself.
Have a good night and just hang in there my friend.
Colleen -
Hi DD
I am sorry you hurt yourself. I hope it is getting better. I know how you feel, as I am always doing some weirdo thing that hurts me, and it lasts for weeks after. I am praying for you, my friend.
Tomorrow it will be all over. Out here it will be aorund 2pm. Everyone is all excited. Ill take a pic with my cell phone, if I can. We saw lines of traffic on the news. It is crazy.
Love the pics of the owls! The one of your pretty kitty is cute too.
I am watching ITKWD. My favorite besides Quacker shows. I hope you are ok
Adele…sending hugs and prayers your way!! -
Hi Colleen
Today they said 30 people got arrested yesterday, after they disbanded. Only 2 were from Boston, all the others were out of state, or from another part of the state- some were even from Canada. those white supremacists are a piece of work. When will people realize we are stronger together? Color does not matter.
That is so sad about your BIL. It is nice that you are helping him realize his bucket list. Your SIL must be so worried, and anxious. Cancer is awful.
Heather’s birthday is being done today. Bobby cooked. There was a huge mishap. A huge can of the Kitchen ready tomatoes fell, instead of going into the pot. bobby had to move the stove to clean it all up. He was so mad, and broke the under the counter paper towel holder (he was able to get it back up later) cleaning up the mess. It owuld have made a great You Tube video.
Amanda was called into work, so she will not be here. We can’t fault her, as the Red Sox are playing, and she makes a lot of money in tips when they do.
It is hot here to, but the humidity went down a bit for today.
Adele -
Hi Adele,
They did arrest a lot of people there the other day. That is terrible that people came here from Canada to cause trouble. They would not like it if we came to Canada and made trouble there. That is another thing that is so sad about these protests. They are not people from the area they are holding the rally. They need to just stay in there area and cause all the trouble there and not bother other people that just want to live peaceable.
My sil is having a hard time with this. She is worried about being alone more then anything. She does not want to be here without him. She will make out okay though. Ron and his sisters are pretty close so they will help her thru this.
Oh what a mess. Tomatoes are so hard to clean up like that. That is an even bigger mess with it going behind the stove. I hope that you had more tomatoes to use and did not have to go back and buy more. That is even more aggravating. Hope that everything else went okay. Did you have a good day?
That is understandable that Amanda would want to work with a the Red Socks playing. I bet the restaurant was really busy. Do any of the players come over there and eat after the games? The people that come in there are probably really a happy group when the socks win.
It has been really hot here also. We had a shower come up this afternoon but it passed thru as quickly as it came up. It was funny because they did not predict any rain for today,.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi Everyone,
DD, I hope that you feel better soon. How did you hurt yourself? I hope it wasn’t because of all that stuff that you have had boxed up for so long. The pictures of Jewell are cute. This morning on the Today show they were showing pictures of the place in Oregon (can’t remember the name-I think it began with an M) where people are all camped out because it is in the path of totality. I am worried that people won’t have the right glasses or that some people will look anyway and lose their sight. With all that I have gone through with eyesight lately I plan to be indoors and not even look out the window. I am taking no chances.
Colleen, talking about the bulls made me wonder if things are still done the same way so I googled it and sure enough they are although they have some alternative methods too. Come to find out that the teaser cow is actually a steer-dumb bull doesn’t even know the difference. My brother worked at the bull barn for awhile so we got lots of stories first hand. Bulls are very strong and dangerous so this whole thing is a tricky business.
That was nice of you to give Christine the Jeanne Bice books to read. You are a good friend to her.
I will be praying for Ron’s BIL. It’s nice that you guys are helping him to do things that he wants to do. Ron will be sad as he will be losing not only a BIL but a friend. It’s good that his sister has siblings around to support her through this.
Greg’s sister who lost her husband about 12 years ago is getting remarried this Nov. I am so happy for her as she was so lost after her husband died as he really was the love of her life-she waited so many years to be married to him as he was married when they first met and then they met up again after he got divorced. It was just something that was meant to be. He was such a nice man. But now she is getting married again and I’m sure she never thought that would happen. So it really is something to celebrate.
Adele, I know Puddles got kicked off, and the Korean dance team and the clown guy that did the daredevil acts and I can’t remember the other two.
Tell Heather Happy Birthday. How nice of Bobby to do the cooking. I hate when you spill something and make a big mess.
I’m glad that there were no problems in Boston. Good for them. I hope there’s no more trouble across the country. At least for today the country is preoccupied with the eclipse.
Well Greg got back home yesterday. At least when he is gone and hanging out with a bunch of guys for the week he appreciates me more when he gets home-at least until I do something that irritates him. lol He had fun-personally I would find all that fishing boring but differences is what makes the world go round. Tim is a good cook and he makes their meals when they are not having shore lunches. He provides the meat and Greg brings up corn and garden veggies so they eat well and are in bed by nine as they are up early to get out fishing.
Gail -
Adele,
The other two that got kicked off were the two little kid dancers and the singing Trump. -
Hi Colleen
Everyone had a good day, and Heather loved her gifts. So, all was good. Bobby got it all cleaned up, and the stove tucked back in, and the gravy done. Nobody was the wiser….LOL
I sent them all home with the bar cookies, and some for Tillie downstairs too. So, none of those left either.]
What time do you see the eclipse in your area? Over here it is between 2 and 3. I am goign to try to get a pic with my cell phone.
Your poor SIL. It is awful to know your spouse is dying, and that the time you have with him is so limited. it is terribly sad, for all of you.
I totally agree. Most of those trouble makers come from outside. Stay in your own state and protest. Nobody wants outside trouble making racists in their state. there was one guy running for something (either senate or rep seat who was goign to speak for “free speech”, and has been associated with the white supremacist movement, as it was their protest. He was freaking out, saying he was not, and was goign to speak to the crowd about his platform. Seriously??? What was he thinking, speaking that day?? I would say his candidacy is finished, before it started.
Hope your day is going well!
Adele -
Hey Gailster!
I am glad Greg is back, all safe and sound. I bet he was thrilled to be back home with you, and in his comfy bed. nothing like coming home!
I am so glad the demonstration went as it did. The goons who were arrested were all the white supremacist people who were on their way out of the city. Good riddance. Their demonstration was a bust, and there were 40,000 people on the other side of right. They were drummed out of Boston, much like the Pied Piper got the rats out of England. LOL
If anyone wants to live next door to me, the house next door is for sale. My neighbor on the other side of me called me at *am on Friday to let me know he had the scoop. My neighbors are so dam funny. As soon as the sign went up, the news was out. The sad part is the couple who have been there only 3 years, are separating, and going their separate ways. That is a shame, as they were a nice couple. everyone feels bad about it.
I hope everyone there is good, and you get to see the eclipse with no incidents.
Thank you for the well wishes for Heather!
Adele -
Hi Gail,
That is interesting that they still do it the same way. ( the bulls) You would think that after all these years they would have a new technique for doing that. I did not know that bulls were that dumb. I thought that they would know if it was a female or male. That is strange.
It will be hard for Ron. They went to the sale barn together and to the 4 mile long yard sale. They did that for a long time. I think that he is going to take him to the sale barn on Friday so he can get some turnips. Some guy grows them and comes to the sale barn to sell them. If something happens that he cannot go Ron will get them for him.
That is so neat that your sil and her husband got together after all. He must have really loved her also. Did they have any children? That would be rough on her losing him like that and feeling lost. I bet that took a long time for her to just be able to go on at first. You and Greg were there for her I am sure.
Sounds like Greg had a nice fishing trip. Did he bring home his two fish? That is nice that the guys can get away like that and do something that they all enjoy doing. I do not get the fishing thing either. Like you it would bore me.
We watched the eclipse on tv also. It was really something to see. There were a lot of people all over Missouri watching it. That is crazy that people traveled that far to watch it. A lot of kids missed school today so they could be with their parents to see the eclipse. That was surprising that they were not going to count it against the kids for staying home today. They also had a lot of people that took off work. They had do not park on shoulder signs all over the highways. I guess that they were afraid that people would park on the side of the road and then when everyone started to head for home that would have been a mess. That was the first time I have ever seen them do that.
That is nice that Greg’s sister is getting married again. It is lonely being by yourself all the time.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi Adele,
Glad that you all had such a good time for Heathers party. You must have made a lot of cookie bars for everyone to take home. You are such a good grandma. Tillie was probably happy that you had enough for her to take downstairs with her.
The eclipse happened around 1pm here. It sure was over quickly though. I think of all the people that drove all that way to watch if for about two minutes. That was so strange. It seems like someone said that we are supposed to have another one in 2024. I am not sure if that is right or not may have misunderstood. We watched it on tv. You did not have to worry about hurting your eyes and going blind. I might have gone out if the grands were here.
There was a senator or someone that got arrested for threatening the president. I do not understand what is happening to this country. There were a lot of people that did not like Obama when he was in office but I do not remember any of them saying anything like that. It is like people are throwing a tantrum because their candidate did not win. We need to stand united right now with all the trouble around us.
This is going to be a hard time for my sil. Everyone is standing by her though. That will help her thru all of this. I cannot even imagine what that would be like. For her or for him. All we can do is pray.
That is so sad that you neighbor is getting a divorce. Hope that you get some really good neighbors that move in. That would be nice.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.
Colleen -
Hi Colleen,
There will be another eclipse in 2024 and what is weird is that Carbondale is again going to be in the path of totality. They said on the news last night that there were big traffic jams on I57 heading north right after the eclipse as everyone left Carbondale to go back home at the same time.
Yes, Greg did bring back his two fish from Canada. lol They bring back walleye as they are the best for eating.
My SIL never had any children. Her husband was about 25 years older than her and he had children with his first wife. I don’t really know if she didn’t want to have children or if he didn’t want to start over again. Maybe some of both-but she was so crazy about him that she probably would have done whatever he wanted. She was already at least thirty and maybe a little more when they got married so that would have made him at least 55 so maybe he didn’t want babies at that point in his life. I guess his first wife cheated on him all the time during their marriage-I’m surprised that he stayed with her as long as he did but I think he waited until the children were grown before leaving. It shows he was a good man trying to do the right thing. He actually passed away before my MIL (and his MIL too) He went in for a back surgery and contacted some sort of infection that caused all sorts of other problems. He finally came home for a brief period of time and starting having problems again and went back into the hospital and passed away. This all went on for several months. Greg and I were really close to her when her Mom lived with us and after her husband died. She always came and spent vacations with us and after she had a surgery she came out here so I could help her out. Then after awhile she met John and started dating him and doing more with him so we have seen her less and less but are just happy that she now has someone to do things with. John also is a widower so it’s nice that they found each other after both losing their spouses.
You know you said Ron and his BIL were going to get some turnips and I’m not sure if I’ve ever eaten turnips except maybe in a restaurant. I know I don’t cook them at home-wouldn’t really know what to do with them. I know people put them in stews sometimes but it just wasn’t something we had much growing up.
Gail -
Hi Adele,
Yes, Greg was glad to get home to his sleep number bed and his pillow. I’ve never seen anyone as fussy about their pillow as him. However, I just had to make him buy a new one as his old one was beyond getting clean with a washing anymore and it was bugging me. So I have given up trying to buy him a new one as he rejects them all and then we are stuck with all these extra pillows which i then end up giving to Jenny. So I had to gently remind him (nag) to get a new pillow for himself until he finally did it.
Hey if we lived next door you would never get anything done as we would be talking and laughing all the time and encouraging each other in our Quacker addictions. Just imagine how nuts we could make Gary and Greg.
I did get the new butterfly shirt by the way. Flower, Butterfly and dog shirts are my downfall. And of course the Christmas ones. Pretty soon I’m going to have to start wearing the Christmas shirts in August to get them all in. lol
I’m glad the eclipse happened when it did. At least it united the country if only for one day.
Don’t forget this week. AGT on Tuesday-results for AGT on Wednesday.
Gail -
Hi Gail,
That is strange that it will be in Carbondale again. I wonder why it goes thru there most of the time. It must have been a mess with all the people wanting to see the eclipse. It was a mess around here from what they said on tv. Just hope that everyone got home safely. The restaurants were crowded yesterday also. I guess people stopped to eat on their way back home. It was good for business.
He sounds like he was a really good man. Does your sil still from his children? I wondered if they were close or if they just stayed around their mother. It seems like kids always blame their dad for what happens between their parents. It is great that she found someone else that had gone thru what she had. They both deserve to be happy again and to have each other.
You can fix turnips like you do potatoes. I have boiled them, mashed them and fried them. They have a good taste. Ron likes to eat them raw. They have a kind of sweet taste if you get them at the right time. I have mashed them and put a little bacon in them and that really gives them a good taste.
How is Kendall doing at school this year? Hopefully she is not have the trouble that she has had in the past. I feel so bad for her that has to be tough to start school and be so shy that she gets sick over it. I hope that Lachlan and Piper are doing okay in school also. Piper would be an interesting student to have in school. I bet she can come up with some interesting things.
Well that is about all from here. Have a great night.
Colleen -
Hey Gail
I did saw AGT last night, but missed a couple of acts- the one where there was a technical mishap- came back in the living room at the end of it. I will NOT forget to watch them tonight again….LOL
I got the new tunic Halloween/Fall ones. I also had a bad day, and ordered 2 sets of the Temptations Harvest dishes. I have no idea how I will rearrange the cabinets to accommodate those, and may be sorry I got them- I almost got 3 sets, and realized there was definitely no room for that! But, only 8 dishes will not be enough for everyone on a Sunday. God help me!
Well, the pool man came by today, as we now have a leak there. To fix the pool- new lining, etc, total cost is about 1100.00. then add the stairs he said he can install, that I would actually be able to use, would make the total price- 1400.00. To dismantle the dam thing, and take away all the debris, including the deck……..2000.00, without the landscaper fee to remove the sand, rocks, and put the yard back together- probable estimate another 2000.00, for a total of 4000.00. So, today, THE HUSBAND who hates the dam thing, said we need to fix it. The pool liner and wall in one area is in such bad shape, that we are risking it collapsing, whihc will mean the force of the water will take the fence and shed with it. Not a good idea. It is being drained right now, so it can be fixed.
I want to scream. I will not be able to be very generous this holiday season.
Greg is like Gary with his pillow. It took me years to find one he could live with- a Tempurpedic one.
God help us both!!
Adele
PS…gross here- the humidity is disgusting. -
Hi Colleen,
Here’s how Carbondale ends up being in the path both times. This time the eclipse went from west to east-in 2024 it’s going to come up from Mexico across Texas and over the rest of the country from that direction and once again Carbondale lies in the direct path as it continues to travel Northeast. I think it’s just a quirky coincidence.
Char did keep in touch with her husband’s children after he died. They really didn’t take sides after their parents got divorced as they were grown and kind of knew that their mother probably caused it. They lived all around the country so they didn’t really see them that often unless they came into to Chicago to visit or Char and Lee went to visit them. I can’t remember where they all lived but I do remember one lived around Kansas City.
Thanks for telling me what to do with the turnips. I will have to try those mashed with the bacon sometime when I am feeling creative. We may find out that we really like them. I take it Ron doesn’t grow them in his garden. It seems like every year we have a problem with something. Last year it was the green peppers this year it’s the cucumbers. We have some but not nearly as many as usual and not nearly as big either.
Kendall has actually started out taking the bus this year finally. I guess because her cousin is taking it and also the girl across the street and the boy next door and they are all in the same grade except her cousin who goes on up to the junior high. At least she took it last week. I don’t know if that is still what they are doing. Piper hasn’t started yet as preschool doesn’t start as early as regular school. So far her teacher has been her aunt so she is used to the constant chattering-it will be interesting when she goes to kindergarten and her teacher isn’t a relative anymore. I was well known for chattering in school so I guess she comes by it honestly. Jenny was always kind of shy as a little kid but she grew out of it by the time junior high came along so I’m hoping with each year things will become easier for Kendall too. What grade is Ethan in this year? He must be in junior high. And I think Owen and Kendall are around the same age-she’s in 4th this year.
The weather here has been beautiful-mid 70’s and not so humid and cooler nights.
I hope DD is okay. She came on and said she got hurt but not much else. I will be praying for her.

Hi Adele,
Here’s the thing about AGT. Mel B needs to stop it with the throwing the water. It ends up taking away from the contestant. Just let Simon make his smart remark and ignore him or get back at him in the break room-not when someone is waiting to hear the judges comments. The show is supposed to be about the contestants not the judges. They are acting like high schoolers. I feel kind of sorry for the escape artist as his act was a big flub last night-although I don’t really like those danger acts and am glad when they get eliminated. It was a good thing that they had filmed the dress rehearsal of that dance group otherwise they would have had nothing. I really missed Nick at the beginning but Tyra is starting to grow on me as she is really nice to the contestants.
I got those harvest shirts too. They were very cute. I like the tunics as they cover the B and B-butt and belly.
So are the dishes a whole place setting or just plates? Good luck trying to find a place for them. I just stopped watching the kitchen shows because I don’t need anything else and unbelievably I don’t even want any more kitchen stuff. Except if i find a gadget that makes things easier. My favorite thing that I bought recently from the Q for the kitchen was this board that you can put meat on to defrost it quicker as I always forget to take things out of the freezer. I also have all sorts of gadgets to help open jars and bottles. I have this little thing that looks kind of like a bottle opener that pops the seal on jars and it is like a miracle for someone with arthritis. I made my girlfriend get one for her husband who has OA and RA once when we were in a kitchen store together and he loves it.
Your house really is giving you a bad time this year. I wonder if all the things that are breaking are about the same age and it is just time to replace and repair. At least they can put in the stairs so it is usable to you. I would hate to have a pool and not be able to use it. I would be out there every day floating around in my swan float or maybe a duck float. When the guy came out last week to fix the garage door opener he said he could fix it but it was 22 years old and was probably on it’s way out so i told him to put in a new one. Of course you could put in another chain drive which is what we have or get a belt drive which is more costly. I just told him to put in the chain drive as if it lasted another 22 years I probably wouldn’t be living in this house anymore anyway so it would no longer be my problem. lol
What is up with the husbands and the pillows? Greg’s is a feather pillow but he likes it in a smaller size which is hard to find. Crazy guys!

Hello everyone
What is the bull everyone is talking about? did the bull get lost? I saw one on TV that was lost.
What happened to Gail’s SIL and BIL? I htink I missed a couple of things….Here are some pics of the eclipse that I took. Notice the plane in one, and the smoke from a jet.
Adele
-
Hi Colleen
All this craziness in the country is nuts. I am afraid we are headed for a civil war. I wish our leaders could come together, and speak peace and unity to everyone. It just does not seem to be getting better.
I hope you BIL will be able to see the things still left on his list, before the weather starts to get bad. You are both such a great support for your SIL and BIL. They are blessed to have you.
i posted some pics I took of what you could see of the eclipse here- the sky got a weird color, with that weird darkness, but never got very dark. I sent my pics to our local paper too. One o the big Boston newspapers got the plane I have in one of my pics. But, he got the shot when the plane looked like it was passing over the sun. I dd mine without looking at what I was taking a pic of, as I had no glasses. I just held up the phone, and shot pics.
I saw AGT last night, and tonight I will not forget to see the results one. It seemed like a lot of the acts were having a bad day, and the judges were all going at each other. A weird night, for sure.
hope your day is goign well….no cookies in the oven over here today…..LOL -
Hey Gail and Colleen
Now I know what happened with Gail’s SIL and BIL…..LOL
Adele -
Hey Gail!
I thought the judges were all weird last night too. I missed the dancers whose act had to be shown from the rehearsal. I wonder who will be going tonight, as a lot of the singers did not have good nights either. Maybe the eclipse made everyone out of sorts….LOL
What is up with them and their pillows?
Check out the first pic on the left of the eclipse ones- that has a plane just above the tree line, and smoke from another plane’s path.
Did you get tickets for the big powerball tonight? We got some. I would be thrilled if I won enough to pay for the pool repairs.
the dishes are an entire pace setting. It was one of those retail therapy moments, when I was beside myself about Steph and the boys. What the dishes can do to make it better, is way over my head.
Speaking of Temptations, I hope DD is ok. She has not been on since she said she hurt herself. Have not heard from Sue, or Barbara, either. I know Sue must be enjoying her new mobility. I hope Barbara and Jerry are feeling better.
The humidity is supposed to be better out there- have no idea, as I have not ventured outside today. I started pulling apart my armoire, where a lot of my Quacker tops are, and got disturbed by the pool man…..and no, he does not look like Pablo….LOL LOL If I do not get back in there, we will have no place to sleep tonight, as stuff is all over the bed. i better get to it…
Adele -
Hi Ladies,
I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!! It’s been a week now so I thought I better let ya know I’m getting better. It’s rather embarrassing. I took a HARD TUMBLE out of bed last Tues. night. I hit the floor on my right side. I had to take the ambulance to the ER the next morning. I could barely breathe, I was in so much pain. They did a C scan & said I didn’t break any bones or injure any of the major organs. My ribs were badly bruised tho. I’ve heard that’s worse than breaking them. I can finally breathe deeply, & am getting around better now. they put me on the heavy duty pain killers. Thank you for all the prayers & well wishes. I was afraid I may have punctured one of my lungs when I hit so hard. I have no clue why I do this. I’m in a dead sleep when it happens. Hitting the floor is what wakes me up. I’m gonna have to look into getting rails for the bed. All I’ve been able to find are for little kids.Well, the eclipse came & gone. I tried to record it on my phone, but I’m not sure it came out. I did record it off the TV. The local stations had crews all over from the Oregon coast to Eastern//Central Oregon, which had the best view of it. The clouds/fog rolled in at the coast which kind of blocked the perfect view of it.
Everyone was so over whelmed when it happened. the tv crews tried to explain what it was, but I summed it up to this: they were in awe of God’s handiwork!!! Just that simple.
Adele, I don’t know if you know this, but the Harvest & Pumpkin Patch dinner ware sets are back in stock. I saw them on my phone this morning. They are GORGEOUS!! Hard to decide.
Did all of you see the QF show yesterday? Gail, they had the most beautiful butterfly shirt. It was of Monarch butterflies that go diagonal down the front & on the left sleeve. GORGEOUS!!!! In red, black or espresso. I want one of each, 0f everything!!!I thought we were done with the heat, but they’re saying that starting this weekend we’re going back into the 90s for a few days!! Today is overcast with cool temps.
I got my lock & lock set in Iris, & it is a beautiful blue with a hint of purple. Not a lot tho.
I haven’t read all the posts, so give me a couple days to catch up. I know I’m forgetting something, but I’ll remember after I sign off. Never fails!! -
Hi DD,
I am glad to hear that you are starting to feel a little better. We all fall over some stupid things. I would had to tell you where I have fallen from. I go thru some crazy times. For awhile I was falling all over the place. They told me when I had fallen once to put ice on my ribs. They said to try ice and then try heat. I did that and it helped with the pain also.
i wonder if some of the people that traveled so far to see the eclipse were disappointed when they found out that it only lasted for about two or three minutes. I am glad that we did not drive anywhere to see it. Traffic here was a mess. They said that the highways were so busy right after the eclipse was over because everyone left at one time. Can you imagine what a mess that was.
I did see the quacker shows yesterday but did not buy anything. I have too many easy pays right now and do not need any more. They had a couple that I really wanted to buy but will have to wait. They had some really cute tops on the shows. I liked the shirt with the monarch butterflies also. They looked so real. They did a really good job on those.
I really like the pictures that you posted they are really prettyu.
Well that is about all from here. Take care of yourself.

I hear the powerball winner is from Mass. Maybe it is Adele.
-
Hi DD,
Love the sunflowers. We have them in our garden and they are one of my favorites.
I’m glad that you checked in and that you are doing better. Any bruising of the ribs is always so painful.
If I remember correctly medicare will pay for a hospital bed with rails in your home but I can’t remember if you need a prescription from the doctor or not. We had one when my MIL lived with us but i just can’t remember the details of how we went about getting it but I know it came through Medicare somehow. Other than that I think the rails that they have for kids would probably work well enough to keep you from falling off the bed too. Did you ever fall off when you had a larger bed or is it that you are not used to the twin size?
Gail -
Hi Adele,
I hope that you won the powerball. I wanted to get tickets but then I forgot. lol
The story about the bull was I was telling Colleen that I grew up across the street from a bull barn and was telling her that they were used for artificial insemination and then we had a conversation about that. There was no loose bull. Although there were a few special ones that had a pasture that they could go into and when my mother would go outdoors after dinner and shake out the crumbs from the table cloth she would stand in the yard and shake the table cloth at the bull and say toro toro like a bull fighter-what can I say-I told you guys that I come from a nutty family. lol
That’s okay Adele-the retail therapy doesn’t solve the problem but it does make one feel a little better anyway.
Believe me I have indulged many a time. When I was going through this stuff with my eyes there was a trail of packages coming into the house-like the breadcrumb trail from Hansel and Gretel. lol
What do you mean your pool guy doesn’t look like Paolo? You better hire a different company. lol
I was disappointed that the dog act and the 3 guys that sang together didn’t go through last night. I really hope that the person who wins this year is not another little girl singer. They are all good and they are all adorable but I would like to see a more mature person as the winner. Also I wish they wouldn’t always play up the sad back stories on these people. I wish they could come on and be judged on their talent alone-but I know they will never do this as the sad back stories make for more TV drama and ultimately it’s all about the ratings.
Did you get the pumpkin dishes or the harvest dishes?
Gail -
Hey Sue!
Sorry to say, not me. But the sad thing is, the numbers were Bobby, Amanda’s and Steph’s birthdays. 4/23, 6/26 amd the month of 7. Only one number was not one of their birthdays….if only…..
I do get tickets with the kids’ birthdays, but, I o would never have combined them like that. Too funny!
Adele

Hey DD
OMG….that is awful. We have a rail on our bed, for Gary- he uses it to get out of bed. It is about 2 feet long, with a black rubbery coating on it, and it just goes in between the mattress and box spring. We got it from one of those “handy helpers” type of catalogs, the ones they send you that have gadgets for people with limitations. We have had it since he had his hip done. I will try to google it, and see if I can find a number for you. It was not very expensive.
Oh yes….bad Adele saw they were back in stock. First I had 3 sets coming, then cancelled that, and now I have 2 sets coming. It was a “Steph is miserable and I am worried about the boys’ crazy purchase. I really need 3 sets for everyone around here, but where in the world will I put it all? I have to find a place to out my butterfly dishes, and change them aorund in the Fall. One thing though- I have to make sure the bottoms will not scratch my table. POne of the Temptations platter did a number on my table- the scratches went through the finish, in the wood underneath. Now, i put something under the platters, when I use them I would not be able to do that with dishes. So, i am hoping the bottoms are finished better than the platters.Did you see my pics of the eclipse? We did not get the fabulous view you had.
I hope you are feeling better. that was an awful injury, and you live alone. I am so sorry for all the pain you were in….goign to go look if I can find that railing for you….
Adele -
Sue
the bed rail is on Ebay- put in “bed rail by vive”, and it will pop up. they go form the mid 50’s to the mid 60’s. They are all the same as the one we have on our bed.
I hope that helps.Gail
No, the new dishes have not arrived. Probably because I changed the number i got- first it was 3, then I went to 2, as where in the world will I put another 12 harvest/pumpkin mugs? I wish they sold some of the dishes individually. I would get extra dinner and soup plates, bit no more mugs. I have a few of the beautiful Temptations mugs- a couple with a pretty spoon with them too. I bet if they work( are not scratchy on the bottoms) I may not use my butterfly dishes anymore….LOL LOL
OMG…the visual on the semen collection is not a good one. I am hysterical right now- tears are in my eyes. Dear Lord, farm life is not supposed to be that difficult. Do they have to marry the bull after the collection? LOL LOL LOL I cannot stop laughing. I cannot help myself, but I really did need a good belly laugh.
Had my PT today- I have only 2 more visits, and then I am done. I will continue doing the excises for the feet/ankles at home too.
My pool guy is at least as old as me and Gary, or all the time in the sun has made his skin look older. He does have a good sense of humor. I hope to get a pic after the liner is in- it is pretty- with detail around the top making it look like tile. All my friends are hysterical that Gary wanted to fix the pool. Nobody could believe it. With Gary, it is all about the dollar. Whichever is cheaper, wins. I told him not to dare complain when we open it next year….LOL
I agree. the sad stories are affecting the votes. They never did that before, and always said it is the talent that mattered.
I was sad the 3 men did not make it through. they were really good. i did like the deaf girl who sang. I cannot imagine hitting those notes, and not being able to hear. Amazing. She has a fabulous voice. The little girl with the name Celine is good. Not that thrilled about the rest of them, unless I am forgetting someone, which could be!
Off to the recliner I go…..
Adele
PS have you seen the show Salvation? Love that show. Tillie and I got our fall/Halloween tops today for Quacker. -
Hi Adele,
Were you addressing me or Sue about the rail? I’m assuming you meant me. I’ll look it up. If you want to get rid of some of those Harvest or pumpkin mugs, I’ll buy them from ya. That way I could have something from each pattern. I try to find something small to add to my temptations collection that way.
I don’t have enough room for full sets of dishes, since I have a set in the rose pattern. One person doesn’t need that many dinnerware sets, or bakeware sets. Heavy, too.Went to the Dr. today, & my b/p was low for me,92/50 she said. the only thing I can think of was I fell asleep in the waiting room. It was my nap time, lol
The Dr. didn’t seem to be alarmed about it. the pain has subsided a lot this week. this time last week I could barely breathe!! Forget about taking a deep breath!!
Gail, I’m not sure why I’m falling out of bed these days! I wish I knew. Even the Dr. couldn’t explain it to me. He thought maybe I started out laying on my stomach, but I haven’t done that in yrs. It’s bizarre to say the least. I’m gonna see if I can find that railing Adele talked about earlier. If I get something close to me, hopefully it’ll keep me from falling out.I’m still hearing stories about the eclipse out here. Seems people were so overcome with emotion, they teared up. It went absolutely quiet when it happened. Eastern Oregon was the best place to be. It went completely dark over there. It went dark here too, but it wasn’t as dark. There was just a sliver of sun. People in awe of God’s Majesty, even if they don’t want to admit it. Who but God could do that.
Are you noticing the sun is down at 8 pm now. Getting dark earlier every night. Sigh.
Well, I’ll close for now.
Take care.
Sorry to hear you didn’t win the lottery Adele. Maybe next time.
dd
PS It’s Christmas all day on the Q today (Friday) -
Hey DD
OMG- i should not know it is Christmas on the Q…..LOL
I would give the mugs to you, if I cannot fit them all in. I would never sell them to my friends….LOL I am thinking of moving where I store the crock pot for the summer, and maybe the extra dishes/mugs will fit down there.
It was you I was talking about on the bed rail. It is also easy to install- you just slide it under the mattress. We have had it on the bed since GAry had his hip done.
That is funny that they are still talking about the eclipse. nobody out here is anymore. Everyone is all about the awful hurricane about to hit the south coast. i feel so bad for all those people. A hurricane is worst than a blizzard. You can shovel the snow, but you have no place to contain all that water. I hope it does not get as bad as they are saying. My prayers go out to all of the people on the south coast.
I never win anything. I love to get an occasional scratch ticket, and the most I have won is 2.00 lately. Once in a great while I will get 20.00- have not in a long, long time.
It stared raining here. I thought it was going to be ice today. Oh well.
Hope your day is nice and sunny, and you continue to feel better. I am sure the blood pressure was because of the nap. Are you still taking the pain meds? They can affect blood pressure to.
Adele -
Hi DD,
I’m glad that you are feeling better. Putting the rail on the bed will probably be a big help.
I have noticed that it is no longer light quite as long and it makes me sad. I love the long days of summer.
Many people have talked about the eclipse being a moving experience. I think we are all humbled when we see something that is bigger than ourselves.
Yes-Christmas in August on the Q today. Hopefully nothing will be too enticing.
I am praying for those people in Texas. Nature can be both so beautiful and so destructive.
Gail -
Hi Adele,
So I am assuming that you got the pumpkin rather than the leaf pattern. Do you use placemats? That would keep the dishes from scratching too. Was that the beautiful new table that the platter scratched? That must have been heartbreaking. Maybe if you want 12 plates and temptations doesn’t sell any separately you could find pumpkin plates at someplace like Pier One or somewhere and just mix and match the plates. That’s a very stylish thing to do now.
Which butterfly dishes do you have? They have those pretty ones by Lenox on the Q. I have a set by Royal Worcester that I bought when we moved into this house-they have herbs and butterflies. Plus I also have collected Polish Stoneware but those are mostly things like serving pieces and bowls but those are in all different patterns. I love the hand painting.
Glad you got a chuckle about the bulls. This was not a farm-these were all prize bulls with fancy bloodlines-it was a big business collecting sperm and sending it throughout the world. Not something that most people know-or even think about. Since so many of my girlfriends who spent the night commented about the sounds emanating from the barn so early in the morning I learned how to imitate the bulls and used to crack up my friends with my imitation-a rare talent-I know. lol
I was just reading that many pools are switching to salt water as it is better and easier to maintain than using all the chemicals. Can you use salt water in a pool with a liner or does it have to be a cement pool?
I never even heard of the program Salvation. What is it about?
Gail -
Hey Gailster
The program Salvation was on last night at 10pm. It is about an asteroid coming toward earth, and the government and an outside contractor trying to hit it to set it off the path of total destruction. (I think I have the right name)
No, I got the Harvest ones. that pattern is so beautiful. It was the pretty table, as that is the kitchen table. I had a repair guy rub some stuff in the marks, to make them less visible, but to get them out, the entire top of the table would have to be refinished, and it is only a year old, or is it 2 years old???
Gary feels we should have a piece of glass made for the top. I don’t know. I love the wood.
I am not sure about the salt water- it may be for in ground pools only, as I owuld say it would eat the lining.
I have the Lenox butterfly dishes- the Q has them. I have a couple of the colors mixed in my set, as I need so many dinner and salad/dessert dishes- got a lot on ebay, cheap. I wish I could do that for these dishes. I did see 4 of the soup ones on Ebay, but, lost the bid. Ill keep trying…LOL
I am still finding the bull thing quite amusing. But, when you do think about it, it is needed to get more cows/bulls. Still funny…..
hope your day is going well. Gary is at the foot doctor- he ripped his big toe nail, and they removed it….yuck.
Adele -
Hi Adele,
Those were good pictures of the eclipse. You really took some good ones. You got some really good shots and the sky did look strange. Maybe the eclipse is what is causing all these people to go nuts right now. They are so busy in Washington putting each other down they do not have time to do what is right for the country.
Ron is the youngest in the family and the others have health problems. So it is left up to him to take care of everyone. Well at least that is how he feels. So I just go along with him. He really is a good person even though I do complain about him. I just hope that he does not get so tired that he gets sick. He does this and he is looking for a part time job. He wants to stop selling and fixing lawn mowers and tractors. I have no idea what we are going to do with all this junk that we have in the yard.
I always forget about AGT. So never get to watch it at all. I should set it up on the dvr then ti would tape it all the time and then I would not miss it. Did you watch CIA today? I watched some of it but did not see anything that I wanted. I was interested in the wreaths that Bethlehem lights had but they sold out before I could get thru. Oh well maybe next year.
They are not talking about the eclipse around here anymore. it was all over the news for so long and then it was stopped right after it was over. That was kind of weird. You would have thought that they would have more to say about it.
I had to babysit for Aliza and she is really a ball of energy. I am so tired and sore from watching her. I had to follow her around the house and then she wanted to follow me. We did that for about 30 minutes and she still did not want to stop. Then we played in the floor with her toys and after that she was sleepy and had to take a nap. Now I realize why women do not have babies after a certain age. When I am done on here I am going to bed and sleep for two days.
Well that is about all from here. Hope that you find a place for your new dishes. It is hard not to buy them if you really like them.
Have a good night.
Collleen -
Hi Gail,
That was nice that the kids stayed in touch with Char and Lee. That is really hard when the kids do not keep in touch. It is hard when they children all get older and have all the things that they are doing and do not have time for grandparents. So it seems like when you are going thru that stage in your kids lives that you do not get to spend as much time with your won parents. I hope that made sense.
Ron always talks about planting turnips but you have to have a pretty big space to plant them in. So he has not found another place to plant them yet. I hope that he does not start another garden next year. We have enough now. If you do decide to fix some turnips let me know how you like them. I think that you and Greg really will like them.
That is really nice that Kendall is taking the bus this year. That is a big step for her. It makes it nice that her cousin and neighbors all ride the bus together. That makes it even better that the two kids that live in the neighborhood are in her class. Maybe she has grown out of that and will do fine thins year. Will say a prayer that she will be okay.
Yes Ethan is in junior high this year. Owen is in the 4th grade. I think that you are right about Owen and Kendall being around the same age. I think that Kaylee and Lachlan are around the same age also. Piper is lucky that her aunt is her teacher in pre school. She may be different when she get to kindergarten. She may be quieter because of having a teacher she does not know. They may scare her a little at first. Probably not take her long to start talking after she gets over that though. She is such a little character.
I have been babysitting for Aliza and she is going to be a talker. She gets it from her mom though. It was hard to get her to stop talking though. I never realized how out of practice I am. It has been awhile since I have babysit Aliza and she has more energy then 5 toddlers. I will sleep good tonight that is for sure.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hi Colleen
Thanks for the compliment on the pics- I took them with my phone this time. I was surprised they came out so good.
I am attaching the pic of the pool, all apart, and ready to be fixed. the pool guy never showed up today. I took the pic through the window, so the screen kind of messed up the view.
Gary is real sore. He tore the nail off his big toe, and I made him go to the foot doctor yesterday. Well, they removed the nail completely, and the nail bed, so it will not grow back. He cut out the front of an older pair of sneakers he used in the yard, to accommodate the sore toe. He said it hurts to walk on it- just sore, not more pain, so that is good. He cannot walk barefoot, and that is what he should be doing. That is because of the neuropathy.
It is really pretty here this weekend- no humidity, and in the 70’s. I made blueberry muffins this morning.
Heather is sick with a cold.
Jhonny told Steph he loves her, and wants to go home. She is saying the ball is now in her court, and she is feeling he does not love her enough. I told her, from my experience, there is seldom a partner who will be better than the father of her children. It just creates so many other issues, and to try to work it out. Although, I do understand her anger, as he left twice. Dear Lord, I hope they go back together, as it is best for all of them. Please say a prayer to help them do the right thing, whatever that may be.
Life is so complicated aorund here lately, and there is not enough Temptations for me to get and find room to keep it!
Hope Ron and his family are ok. So sad about his brother. I also hope he finds a part time job he likes, and is not stressful.
you must have had a ball with Aliza. they do poop us out….LOL They are so dam cute, though. Did you hug the stuffing out of her, as I say??
Adele -
Hello dear friends. Jerry and I are finally doing better. This has been a very viscious round of “bronchitis” to quote the medical staff; but to my diagnosis; it was walking pneumonia. Jerry was worse than me and I felt just terrible. I worried so much about him; since he started smoking at an early age; and I hear him wheezing at night at times and things just make a bee line for his chest when he gets the throat/sinus thing. Mine went so quickly to my chest that I went immediately to the doctor; but he waited two days before I just went ahead and called the doctor for him to go and luckily we got him in the same day I called. Now I hear tonight that Lisa is sick so I am so afraid that Joey will come down with this too. He is working all weekend, but I just know I gave it to Jerry. I haven’t had a chance to read and catch up on all of your news. I surely hope to be able to do that tomorrow. I know you all must have had some things going on while I have been away; but I surely pray nothing bad has happened for anyone. If so; just know I do remember all of you in my prayers.
I have been so worried for all the poor people and little pets in Texas with this awful storm. This is just terrible.
I know this is extremely short; but I need to make sure that Jerry has taken his medicine for tonight. We have drank so much orange juice the past few weeks I think we are floating. Please take care of yourselves. By the way; in the middle of all this, Jerrys Mom fell in the bathroom but is okay, thank God. She had a UTI and I think she was hurrying to the bathroom and had an accident and slipped in it. That brought of the whole new conversation between us of what to do when we are both sick and can’t go to see about her. But I know you all can certainly relate to this. So please take care; my thoughts and prayers are with you all, and I will try my best to get back with you all real soon. Hugs, Barbara -
Hi Adele,
It looks different without the lining in there. That is a nice pool. It will be better when he fixes it so you can get in there. That would be nice on a hot day to just get in there and float around. Those pools can be a lot of work. Well that is what Ron keeps telling me.lol
I am sorry to hear about Gary’s toe. That had to really hurt. I wonder why they do not want the nail to grow back. That seems sort of odd to me. Will it always hurt like that are will it finally stop and and he will be able to wear his shoes again? I just have never heard of them doing that before. Not like I am this great medical person there are probably a lot of things that I have never heard of before. Hope that is gets better for him.
It has been pretty here also I am wondering if our weather will change because of the hurricane in Texas. A lot of times there weather comes our way. So we may have some good rain out of it or we could get storms. Hopefully if we do get anything it is just rain.
I will keep praying for Steph and Johnny. Maybe he will stay this time. It is not fair for him to keep moving back and forth. He needs to be there for his boys and for Steph. It would be nice if she gave him another chance but with the understanding that this is it. He cannot keep coming home and then moving out again. It is too confusing for the boys. You are right though there is no one that can take the place of your childs father. Even though there are times when it is better if they stay away. It does not sound like that is the case with Johnny.
You may have to stick another cabinet in the kitchen to keep your Temptation in. They do have some really pretty things. I did not get started buying a lot of that because we do not have a lot of cabinet space in our kitchen. If we get one thing we have to get rid of something else to make room.
Well that is about all from here. You are in my prayers and is your family.

Hi Barbara,
I am glad to hear that you are better. Jerry also. Walking pneumonia can really make you sick. That was good that you did not get the bronchitis. That is miserable also. Stuff like that really spreads quickly. Hope that Joey does not get it and Lisa gets over hers really fast. They are younger so they will probably get better quicker. Does Jerry still smoke?
They have been having a rough time in Texas. I just hope that it goes thru quickly and they all survive it. I do not know which is worse Hurricanes or tornadoes.
Just take care of yourself and rest as much as you can. I will be praying for you and Jerry that you are over this and it does not come back. Joey and Liza are in my prayers also.
Have a good night.
Colleen -
Hey Barbara
Glad to hear from you, and that you and Jerry are on the road to recovery. There is a nasty thing starting around here- Heather has it. I just warned her that if she does not go to Urgent Care tomorrow, I will smack her myself.
That is awful that Jerry’s mother had another fall. She is very lucky she did not break anything.
Nothing awful happened here, just more repair issues. You are in my prayers every night too, especially when we do nto hear from you. We all get so worried about each other.
Hope your day is going well, and that nobody else there gets sick.
I have been watching the storm in Texas too. I am heart sick for those poor people.
Adele -
Hi Colleen
Well,. we are up to the entire inside being prepped, and the inside wall has been painted with a rustoleum kind of product. Then he has to re-grade the sand, and the lining is put in last. I think it is going to be too late to use it this year. We usually close it Labor Day weekend.
Please keep the prayers coming for Steph and her family. i get so worried about them, as once these things happen, you feel at any second it could be over. That is my worry. They are all individually good people, and I want them to have a good life.
Gary’s toe is still sore, but better. Tillie had an issue with one of her toes- a fungus thing. They took her toe nail off too, and the bed underneath, so it would not happen again. The podiatrist said once you get a fungus thing, it will return, so they just take the nail off. They explained that the toe nail is not necessary, so that is just what they do.
So, nobody down there has gone through that with a toe? I was surprised they did that to Gary’s toe nail, as it was not infected, it was ripped off. I thought he would just cut it evenly, so it will not have any issues.
It is in the 70’s here, with no humidity. It is perfect weather. Then, you look at those poor people in Texas. I even said to Gary- what owuld yo u grab if you had to evacuate here in an hour? i would take my jewelry, important papers, and a picture of people who are no longer with us. Maybe more pictures, as you would never have them again. It is awful to lose all your memories, and your comfy bed and chair. I pray no othe rperson dies down there, and that the storm continues to weaken. Just awful.
I just saw the this will be the last year for Scandal. I love that show.
So, JJ goes to school on Tuesday. Another summer is over. How are allyour kids doingin school this year? Did your granddaughter go to college yet?
Adele -
Hi Adele,
Your weather is really nice. We have been in the low 80’s for awhile now. It is nice not to have the air on all the time. It is on during the day and off at night. It will be nice not to have to pay those big electric bills. I am ready for fall. This has been such a weird summer. Really hot then it cools down and then warms up again.
I will keep praying for Steph and her family. That is a worry when these things happen to your family. All we can do is pray that they work it all out.
I did not know that the toil nail was not necessary. Well then it was good I guess that they took it off and fix it where he will not get a new one. That did not make sense that they cut his off like that when he just ripped the toe nail. Does Tillie ever have trouble with her toe since they did that to her? We learn something new everyday.
They did not have as much on the news here about Texas as they did yesterday. It is funny how sometimes they will keep talking about something like that all the time and other times they let it rest for awhile. They may have a lot more on about it on the morning news. I do feel so sorry for those people that live there. It would be hard to decide what to take.
The kids are all excited to be in school again. Two of them have not started because they are not moved in yet. They will not be moved into the house in Tennessee until the 1st of September. They are in a cabin in the mountains for a week right now. They said that a bear came up on there patio and scared them all to death. They are having a good time on their vacation.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
Colleen
p.s. Quacker is having a tsv on Q2. It is going to be two shirts with cut outs so not something that I wear. -
Hi Everyone,
Cannot believe that this coming weekend will be Labor Day already. We will be having the second annual balloon fest then. I hope this year they have a better idea what to do with all the cars and traffic. Last year there wasn’t enough parking and people were parked all alongside many of the roads and it also caused traffic jams when we tried to get into town. It was a mess as they didn’t expect to have that big of a turnout. I guess Jenny is working one of the booths again. The nice thing is when you volunteer to work there you can donate a certain percentage of what is earned while you are working to local 501c organizations. Jenny usually has her’s go towards the preschool. So I guess it’s worth the aggravation to earn a little extra money for local charities.
Barbara, I’m glad to hear that you all are feeling better. I too am so saddened by what has happened in Texas. And they are in for more rain through midweek. My nephew and his wife are in Austin which is beyond the storm range. It will take years for them to bounce back from this. I cannot imagine the number of homes that have been lost.
You know I wouldn’t worry too much about not being able to get over to see Jerry’s mom when you both are sick. She is well taken care of where she is and if she wonders where you are you could always call her and tell her you are sick and don’t
want to get her sick and you can also leave that message with the nurses in case she forgets.
Adele, I wouldn’t want to cover the wood with glass either. It just seems to detract from the look of the beautiful wood even though it would protect it. I hope I never lose a toenail. I would have to discuss that with the doc if the situation came up. How could i paint my toenails a pretty color if one was missing. I guess i am just too vain. lol I hope Heather is feeling better today. I wonder if she was not fully recuperated from the previous bug. Did she ever see the nose and throat specialist? I hope things will turn out for Steph. Maybe they should go to counseling to try and work out some of their problems. As to him not loving her enough don’t you think love has an ebb and flow and sometimes one partner loves more and sometimes the other partner does and sometimes it is equal. It just depends on what is happening in life and who needs more support. I will keep praying for them.
Colleen, i think you can get those same Bethlehem lights wreathes from Amazon or maybe even their own website. I know last year I had a couple of lighted wreathes that finally gave out and they were sold out on the Q and i got them from Amazon.
I don’t blame you for being tired those little kids wear you out! I didn’t realize that Melissa, Stephen and the kids had already moved. I hope that you will be able to get to Tennessee to visit them. I hope they like it there and it’s not too hard on the kids having to change schools.
The last couple of weeks Piper has been fascinated by my bracelets and if i have a stretchy one on I will let her wear it while I am there. So Friday i brought over several bracelets that weren’t that expensive that i no longer wear and gave them to her and she was in hog heaven. We must have put on bracelets and taken them off for two hours. Of course now she says she wants all my bracelets but i told her she has to wait for the rest of them as i plan on being around yet and wearing them for a good long while. Jenny doesn’t wear a lot of jewelry so i hope my granddaughters like it as eventually they will inherit a lot of it. Of course all my earrings are for pierced ears so they will have to get their ears pierced to wear them.
I was just reading on the Q board that Salvation Army stores are overrun with china and silverware as the younger generation no longer wants that stuff. I have my grandmother’s china which I cherish but I doubt either of our kids would ever want it as the young people no longer entertain like that-actually I don’t use it much anymore either. It’s sad as it is at least a hundred years old.

It is funny you talking about painting your toenails. When I had my surgery and finally saw my leg & feet he had the nails on that foot painted green. I even remarked to him about it. He said it would wear off but it didn’t. My toenails grew and so was cut off eventually. It was only one foot so my feet did not match. I think if I need the other knee done I will tell him I want to chose the color. I cannot paint my toenail or wear sandals as I have toenail fungus on them & the doctor won’t let me take medicine to clear it up. He says it will damage my liver. I do wear sandals at home but not when I go out that anyone will see my toes.
-
Hi Colleen
We do not get QVC2 around here. I have no idea why.
Well, the pool guy has the liner almost done. I will attach a pic for you.
I just found out that JJ will be missing the first day of school. he is still in Maine with his friend Kai, and they are not getting back until tomorrow. I am a bit upset over that. It is his last year in this school, and I do not want him to start out on the wrong foot. I hope this does not come back to bite them in the butt.
At least your kids have an excuse- they are not in that state yet.
I did not realize you do not need your toe nails until that happened to Tillie. She has not had any issues with it at all. Thank God.
How is your Mom doing?
It is awful about all those poor people in Texas. My heart goes out to all of them. I have been praying the rain stops.
It is kind of late, so I need to get off here, and get into my chair….LOL
Hope your night is good!
Adele -
Hi Ladies,
I hope everybody is doing fine. I’m getting better day by day. I’m off the pain pills & the PT for the shoulder. I made such good progress with the shoulder the therapist felt I didn’t need to continue. Just keep doing the exercises he gave me to do & keep doing my normal household duties, just lift any heavy tubs. I can vacuum, mop the floors, etc.
I’ve heard Vick’s VapoRub is good for toenail fungus. Apply to your nails at bed time, then put on white sox & it works during the night. I’m not sure if it works overnight or if you have to do it for several days/nights. It’s the menthol or eucalyptus that kills the fungus.
One part of the country is drowning in waaaaaaaaay toooooooo much water & we could use some of that water out here, to put out the fires. Most of the state is burning up. We have the smoke & haze in the skies here again, along with two more heatwaves. It got up to near 100 today. It’s supposed to be that hot again over the holiday weekend. The hottest I’ve seen in quite sometime. It usually rains or is turning chilly by Labor day weekend.I was naughty last week on the CIA show. I ordered some VPH items for Christmas. the two snowmen with the kids, & the two mini wreaths. And over the weekend I ordered the Corky’s drumsticks for the holiday weekend. I thought I’d have them with my potato salad & some kind of dessert. Watermelon maybe.
I’m praying for the tropical storm/hurricane TO STOP!!! Those poor people!! I heard the storm is gaining more strength & making another pass thru the same area!!!
Adele, we don’t get QVC2 on our cable system either. I do get it on my computer by going to the QVC main site & type in QVC2 in the box & it pops up. I can get it on my phone too.
Jewell was supposed to get groomed today but for some reason didn’t put her name down on the schedule, so they’ll be out on Sat. I had to wrap her up in one of my towels I wet down & put in the fridge for my shoulder. I didn’t put it directly on her from the fridge, tho. I used it so I got it warmed up for her. she wasn’t sure what I was doing at first, but she calmed down & relaxed. her breathing slowed down then she wanted down so I knew she was better. Silly girl stays in the bedroom where it’s soooooooooooo terribly hot & won’t come out here where I have the AC on during the day.
I’m rambling on now so I better go.
Take care.
dd -
Sue, I wonder why he painted your toenails on that leg (foot)? Was it to remind them of the proper leg to do the surgery on. I know they mark everything with an x beforehand if it is something that has a right and left side to it. They even marked my head when they did the biopsy. I didn’t know that the med for toenail fungus can damage your liver. Is that for sure or just one of the possible side effects. I have heard of using the vicks too. I wonder if there are other home remedies to try also.
How are you feeling? Does the new knee make it easier to get around now? Have you been enjoying your retirement?
Gail -
Hi DD,
I’m glad that you are feeling better and off the pain pills. They make you so groggy. You did really well with the PT to be done going already and just having to do the exercises at home.
I didn’t realize that you were getting such hot weather again. I hope you get a break soon.
Poor Jewell-did she get overheated by being in the bedroom? Maybe you will have to close the door and keep her out of there during the day when it is so hot. I’m glad that she is okay.
Those children with the snowmen statues are really cute. I have a set of glittered choirboy statues that I got from Valerie a couple of years ago that I put on my kitchen windowsill. I also have some choirboy ornaments-I collect them because of my husband’s singing group. I don’t think I saw the mini wreaths but I’ll bet they are nice. Valerie has such pretty things.
Gail -
Hey Gail!
I feel the same way about the table.
Funny how you described relationships, as I gave a quite similar talk to Steph about the ebb and flow of feelings in a marriage. Why, or why, do the young kids not understand that? Honestly, this is why I feel they divorce so quickly. Everyone thinks it is always on, all the time, and it is not. I have always said that you need to fall in love with your partner, over and over again.
Thank you for the prayers- we are going to need them.
I saw a pic of piper that Jenny posted- cute as a button.
I think the pool pic did not come out, so I will try to post it here again.
Hope your day is good, and that your niece is out of harm’s way. Amanda’s friend is in Houston visiting her mom, and her flight back has been cancelled. It is awful to watch these poor people lose everything. It breaks your heart.
Adele -
Hi Sue
I am surprised your doctor did not say to take off the nail, when the first one got a fungus. That is what they did with Tillie, and she never got another one. that was one of the reasons they gave for removing it. She never wears anything with open toes, so it does not matter.
These aging things are awful to deal with. Every time we turn around, there is another one looming.
Gary’s toe is still sore, but healing.
Are you getting any of that hurricane coming up the coast?
Adele -
Hi DD!
I love the Fall pics you posted. Pumpkins are such happy things. I think the Harvest dishes are coming today. God help me….LOL
I hope you get your new Christmas things soon too, so you can be happily opening them. It is so nice when the “Present Man” brings us presents. that is what I call our UPS man.
It is so gloomy here today. The hurricane is bringing up clouds and high seas, but not much rain, as far as I know- the hurricane on the coast, not the one in Texas.
Pretty soon our favorite Friday night show will be back on- Blue Bloods. I have seen some new shows advertised that look good- the one about Young Sheldon, and a few others- the one about the Seals looks good too.
I hope you get rain soon. I also hope you have something nice planned for this weekend with your friend Critt and the lady in your building- I forgot her name. So far, we have not planned on anything…..
Adele
PS I hope your kitty is feeling better!! -

Well it has been dark & chilly here all day. It is from the system that came up the coast. It was suppose to be Irma but I guess never became a big enough storm to name. We are to get rain over the weekend from Harvey but nothing like in Texas. It was only in the 60’s today and it has been 40’s & 50’s at night. Seems like fall. They said you will need jackets for Friday night football.
Gail that was not to mark the leg to be operated on as he put his initials in that knee. My guess would be to prevent infection. I can’t remember him telling me what it was for. He probably did as they told me everything they were going to do & when they gave medicine they told you what it was & what it was for.
The toenail fungus medicine can cause liver damage but so can a lot of other medicine. I have tried Vicks and the over the counter stuff at the drugstore and nothing has worked. Even if the did the foot doctor said it would come back. The best way to get rid of it for good is the pills So I guess I just have to live with it. I have not heard of anyone here having a nail removed. It was not suggested. They did not removed my dads big toenail and it was very thick from when a horse stepped on it. I use to shudder as he took a knife and widdled away at it as you could not cut it.I guess my knee is still improving. I don’t get any feedback since I am just doing exercises at home. I walk better than I have in years. So the only thing left to be normal is getting up from a chair but he said that would take time & it would come if I kept doing my exercises. I guess it is coming as I got my haircut on Sat. & did get up from the chair without help. It was slow and most likely did not look good but I made it. My hair needed cut badly as it was getting long. Now it is cut to just below my ears.
-
Hi Ladies,
I hope you’re all okay. It was cooler today, but the smoke from the fires came back.. it was awful!!! It’s supposed to cool off for the next couple of days then we heat up again. From the looks of it it’s supposed to last into next week. And I’m talking triple digit temps. UGH!!! From what I’m hearing on the local stations is that this hot weather here is what’s causing the problems in Texas. The dome of hot weather here is forcing the tropical storm to stay in its place & not moving on.
Adele, did you get your dishes? I’ll bet they’re gorgeous!!! Isn’t there something you can put on your table to hide the scratch? Furniture oil or something? Or is it too deep? Just asking.
Oh I was mistaken about the mini wreaths. They’re from Bethlehem Lights, not VPH. They’re so cute they could easily be a VPH item.
Jewell is much better today. The bedroom was several degrees cooler & that made a lot of difference. She’ll really be cooler when she gets her hair cut Sat.
I know it’s not the end of Aug. just yet, but it’s almost over. Where did it go??
take care
dd -
Colleen,
Feel better real soon. I don’t always feel like posting on here either. Hope it isn’t anything serious.
dd & Jewell -
Colleen,
I hope that you are feeling better soon and that it is nothing too serious. We all love you and miss you and will be sending some prayers your way.
Gail -
Hi Sue,
Gosh it’s hard to believe that Friday Night Football is back but Harvard did play it’s first game last week. When we went to games when Brent played and Jenny was a cheerleader we had this seat cushion called “lava buns” that you could put in the microwave and heat up and it held the heat for hours. I bought it for Greg since he needed the padding and the heat and I didn’t-I have enough padding to sit on and was also having hot flashes back then so I was always hot. lol Anyway, that was a great little invention.
Well whatever the nail polish was for it was an interesting color. Sometimes I like to put a funky color on my toes just for the fun of it.
It sounds like you have really benefited from the replacement since you are walking better and have pain relief also. As the baby boomers age I imagine we are going to keep all those ortho surgeons very busy.
Gail -
Hi DD,
That’s interesting that what’s happening weather wise in Oregon can impact the weather in Texas-it just shows that everything is interconnected. It actually makes sense too.
I’m glad Jewell is feeling better. She will be cooler after her haircut. I don’t know what our groomer used but our dogs always smelled so nice after a bath and haircut. They smelled like baby powder. I always hated if it rained right after they got their haircut because when they went outside to go to the bathroom it washed the nice smell away-otherwise it would linger for several days.
You are right-not only where dd August go-where did the summer go?
Gail -
Hi Adele,
The pool is looking good. You are right-it’s not worth filling it again now but you will have a nice new pool come spring.
Yes, sometimes I think the young people don’t realize that that first flush of love and excitement will fade and then it becomes the partnership of dealing with day to day things together-that’s the real test. Everyone has to figure out how to deal with this in their own way-but they also have to realize that real life is not a fairytale-happily ever after takes a lot of work and it is nothing like the storybook endings.
I keep on wondering if homeowners insurance covers a hurricane or if that is a special addition to your policy. It was nice to see many celebrities were stepping up and making generous donations to The Red Cross and such. I will be adding all those people affected to my prayer list. You are right-the list just keeps getting longer and longer.
I think that picture of Piper might have been from her first day of school last year. I was looking at the kids when we were over there last week and I could see how blond their hair was bleached and how tan their skin was from playing outside all summer. Even Kendall who has such fair skin gets tan eventually and her hair gets that beautiful strawberry blond color that she was born with. So far she has been taking the bus to school with her friends so that has been a good step forward for her.

Sorry to see you all are having some sicknesses too. Please get anyone who is exhibiting signs of an upper respiratory infection to a doctor right away. It moves into bad sickness so quickly; at least for us it surely did. I still keep a really close eye on Jerry. He is upset this week because Joey has been busy with his job and Lisa’s sickness, and hasn’t been able to mow this place so it looks scruffy now. I know in my heart that he and I are quickly approaching the time when we may have to give our home up for something smaller and manageable by us, but it just makes us both so sad. Why, why, why did we not even think of this when we were younger? And so now, poor Joey, is left here trying to keep up with a shadow of a life of his own and us dragging along. After Jerry started feeling better he began to fuss and I am caught right in the middle with all the common sense of knowing he is right about so much, and seeing that it is the two of us that created this home so many years ago and the thought of putting all of this in our tail lights is just unimaginable to me at the moment. Boy am I ever going on and on. And there are so many people right now whose homes and lives are literally washing away. Sorry girls.
Today is our oldest sons 46th birthday. It seems only yesterday that I looked into those sweet little eyes totally terrified. Every baby I had tried to play with or hold prior to Buddy just didn’t seem happy, but he starred at me for what seemed an eternity with such serious little eyes as if to say, Here I am now, let’s get busy figuring this out. LOL It was love at first sight, and we are very very proud of him. He and his wife are the ones in Nevada and he retired from the Air Force last year. THey are doing so well. He is a really good man.
Neal and Sarah and the baby are at Lake Tahoe for a few days to celebrate her birthday. Her’s is the 2nd. They are doing great too.
I love the Fall pictures DD. Hope your little kitty is better. Ours had a few days of upset tummy, but is better now. We were very worried, but is was due to actually eating too much. We tend to do that around here.
Colleen, hope you are feeling better. Prayers coming your way.
Better close for now ladies. I am in the mood for baked apples, and it is too late in the evening to do them; so mabey tomorrow. I plan on doing a pot of soup and some cornbread tomorrow. Take care all. Hugs, Barbara -
Barbara,
Good to hear that you guys are feeling better. I had pneumonia last summer and I remember it really knocked me out for a time. I do understand about the house and the property and everything. I know we will not be able to stay here forever either. Every time I have to climb the stairs I wish we had done things differently-plus our house is large and eventually the cost of heating and cooling it will become prohibitive. We have living spaces on all three levels so it’s a lot to keep up-plus everything outside too. I know Greg would be heartbroken to leave his pond and putting green etc. but someday we just won’t be able to handle it. The indoors is already too much for me-I just don’t keep things the same as i used to-the positive is with just the two of us things don’t get as messy as when there was kids and friends and dogs and us to clean up after. We just don’t think of these things when we are younger because we don’t know then what is to come in the future. But that’s okay-i just consider it part of life’s transitions and we will do what we need to do when the time comes. Of course it will be sad but maybe it will be a relief from all the extra work too-I’m trying to put a positive spin on the whole situation like the little Pollyanna that I am. lol
Tell Buddy Happy Birthday-I forgot what his actual name is. I’m glad that he’s enjoying his retirement. Did he go on to a second career as 46 is pretty young to totally retire.
I hear western Tennessee may be due for some bad rain storms as the backlash of the hurricane comes northward-be safe and the same for Joey and Lisa. Did Lisa get pneumonia too?
Gail -
Hi Sue
I find it amazing about the differences in medical practices from state to state. I have heard about those anti fungal medicines, and did hear the same thing- they do a lot of damage.
Getting up from a chair is the most difficult. We used an extra pad on the chair to help, so you were up a little higher. Of course, that is harder when you are out. That has always been the most difficult thing for me, when I go anywhere- hoping they have comfortable chairs that are up a little higher.
I think you have done wonderfully with your knee replacement.
It is a little cooker up here- 8 today. Over the next 2 days we are supposed to be real cool too.
Hope your day is going well!
Adele -
Hi Colleen
I hope you are feeling better- will say an extra prayer for you!!
Adele -
Hi DD!
The dishes came yesterday. they are gorgeous. I decided to get place mats to prevent more scratches. That should stop all the scratches, I hope. The colors are so vibrant, and make every meal happy. i got my crock pot out, and put it where the cappuccino maker was- it has already started to give me trouble doing the frothing of the milk. So, that got evicted. the crock pot went where the cappuccino maker was, and some of my other dishes went in that spot inside the cabinets. those cappuccino makers do not last, unless you get a VERY expensive one. This was a Keurig one, that I got from my rewards points.
That one set of scratches is too deep. But, the guy who came to fix a chair has something to put in it, so at least st it is now the same color as the wood again.
Our weather is going to be unseasonable cool for the weekend. This all so weird. At least I will be able to shut off the air for a few days. Last year the air was on until October.
I am glad your kitty is better. -
Hi Gail!
The whole flooding thing is making me sick. I wish we could do something. All we can do is a donation. Your heart goes out to those poor people.
I do not think their home insurance will cover anything, unless they have flood insurance.
The amount of people who have died is continuing to climb. That poor family who died in the van- the grandparents, with their great grandchildren.
Just awful.
the pool is bong closed this evening- all that has to be done, is put on the cover- the water is up to where it needs to be to close. It is way too cool for the pool here this weekend. So, next year it will look nice. The guy said it should last another 10 years….not sure I will….LOL
Kendall is in high school now, right? I hope she likes it. How is Piper doing with her new teacher?
Any plans for this weekend? We have not made any yet.
Hope your day is going well.
Adele -
Hey Barbara!
Your baked apples sound delicious. We are having a pizza party tonight, as the kids are coming over to get the pool cover on.
I hear you. We have a landscaper who does our lawn. We spit the cost, Gary and I pay half and Tillie and Bobby pay half. It is 44.00 a week, and well worth it. I know people up here are more expensive than down there, and you have a lot more grass, so it could be about the same. You could also get it cut every 10 days, making it only 3 times a month. It would be a big chore off the hands of the boys. I hope you can look into it, and maybe get a solution you can live with. that would be way better than selling the property you all love.
Heather seems to have more of a laryngitis. I have been bugging her to get to the doctor. She tends to wait until it is so bad, she has multiple things going on.
I am sorry you are feeling down. I get it. I have been very down about Steph and Jhonny, and still am. I even have trouble sleeping at night, as when you wake up, all you think about it your people you are worried about, and then cannot get back to sleep. It is awful when we worry about the kids, and are powerless to make things any different.
I always say a prayer for all my Quacker friends, and will add an extra one for you.
I hope you have something nice planned for you and Jerry, so you can get your mind off your worries.
Adele -
Hi Ladies,
Just a quick note before the long weekend. Hey Adele, how about sending your pool out here!! It’s gonna be in the upper 90s & even 100 over the weekend!! IT’s gonna be 100 on Monday & Tues. the first day of school. From the sounds of it it’s gonna be hot all next week. The schools here don’t have any AC so the kids will be miserable. No rain in sight & we could use a good downpour or two to help with the wildfires out here.It may sound crazy, but it feels like Friday today.
I hope you’re all feeling better now. It’s no fun feeling poorly over a holiday weekend. Take care all, & enjoy the weekend.
