Hi Gail,
That would not work out that well with the girl married to your daughters bil. lol I know there was one guy that I would have picked out for one of my daughters but the other two were terrible at picking out boyfriends. So they married guys that they met after high school. Thank God for that.
Our ground usually is not frozen until late fall or early winter. We stay warmer longer here then you do there. The winter onions are different then the summer and spring onions. The winter onions are mostly the heads and not the green ones. The green part would not grow for very long. So you have to wait for the heads to get big enough to eat. They are also a little warmer ( spicy) It is strange the difference in them. We have never tried to freeze the onions before, We have frozen the tomatoes and the green peppers. I have no idea what they would taste like. We use to grow garlic and it was really good also. I do not know why we stopped.
Jenny is really lucky. She get so many fresh foods. That is really good for the kids. We should have gotten chickens instead of guineas we would have fresh eggs. Ron wants to get rid of the guineas now. He is a pain. I like them because if anyone comes on the place they make a lot of noise and they keep the tic population down. He is just a pain. He is with them like he is with cars. He changes his mind all the time.
I remember the Gremlins. Do you remember the Pacers? They were a strange little car. We bought one that did not have many miles on it but the inside of the top kept falling down. My girls did not like to ride in it. They were always saying they hoped that we would get rid of it before they could drive. It was funny. It had this orange stuff under the cover and it would fall off in their hair. They would get so mad at us. We kept that one for awhile and then we got another car and they were happy.Ron drove the pacer to work.
I wonder if Barbara’s computer stopped working again. She was having trouble after Jerry down loaded and I do not remember if they got that all worked out or not. I am like you I wish that she would get on here and let us know that she is okay. Have you heard from Debbie? It would be nice to hear from here also. She is such a nice person.
Now that picture of Greg playing dress up with Piper would have been a riot. he is funny. It is funny what a grandpa will do with the grand kids. If the kids asked when they were younger they would have laughed and said go play with your mom or your sisters. At least Ron would.
That is a shame that they are so short lived. There is always one person in the neighborhood that can do a really good job at landscaping and make the rest of us look bad. I bet that your koi pond looks really nice also. She cannot say that she has a golf course by her pond. So yours is unique.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi Dianne,
Sorry I did not answer yesterday some how I messed your message on here. Your cat is so pretty. She looks cute with her new style. It probably does not take long for her hair to grow back out. She looks cute like that.
We had that strange thing in the sky here also. It was so bright and scary. lol It was nice to see the sun for the day. We have not seen it for awhile. It was still chilly here though. I just hope that we have sunshine on Easter. We have our St. Patrick’s dinner on Saturday so the kids can come for dinner. Evey one loves corn beef here and the cabbage also. We have to fix three things of corn beef and three heads of cabbage. We usually do not have any left at the end of the day. There are 8 adults and six grand kids. Well only 5 that will eat the corn beef and cabbage grand kids that is. So it all goes pretty fast.
That is the name of the cake. It looks so good. I do not want to do a lot of baking since I will be doing a lot of cooking. I am not really good at making desserts. I wish that we lived close to Adele. She bakes all the time and really makes some good food. I would be over there getting sweets from her all the time. She would have to put a price on everything she bakes.lol
I am not on face book. Some trouble got started in our family because of that site and so I just do not go on there. I stay on this site and do not have to worry about what is being said on face book. The trouble was for one of my daughters.
I would like to see your pictures. It is hard to for me to post on this site also. So usually I do not do it. I think I did post pictures of a snowman that my daughter made out of an old Christmas tree. It was really cute. She is very crafty.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi Gail,
Here is the number for the hens and chics M49070 they are really pretty. We are looking for them around here. I really want to plant them in the yard. I hope that I can find the ones that flower. Sounds like there is not much work to them. They survive on their own. Which is good because I would not want to have to water them and do all of that care. That is when I run into problems with my plants and flowers.
That sounds so much like Ron.He shows me these cars or suv and then does not want to hear what I have to say about them. The only thing that he says is you will get use to it. So I just gave up on it and just let him go on his own. That way he can surprise. It is like getting the vacuum cleaner.
You are right about Brent. He needs to take it slow and get to know the girl and family. He is a smart man though and he will pick the right one. He seemed to move on when he felt that the other girl was not for him. It would just be nice if the kids would just let us find the right mate for them and they would be happy.lol Never could get my girls to believe that one. Guess we raised them to be too independent.
Ron has not planted anything in the house yet. He use too but for some reason he has not yet. He just went out and planted the onions. We usually have onions all year long. He plants the spring onions and later in the fall he plants the winter onions. He says that he is not going to plant as much this year. We will see. He said that last year and we had more veggies then we could eat. He gets started and it is like he cannot quit.
Did you watch the show on the q with the food? They had the mac and cheese again. Had to order some for Easter dinner. Hope it will be here on time. THey had to wait list it. They kids really liked it.
That field with daffodils would be beautiful. It must take a lot of work to plant all of those. It is nice that they do that so you can enjoy them in the summer also.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi Adele,
I know that you probably missed it but they had the results of all the primary races today. Ron listened until he went to bed. It is a good thing that we have a tv in the bed room or we would not get along. Especially this time of year. It was just so exciting. I was ready to scream so glad that I had the tv in the living room to watch and did not hear all of it. He watched in there for awhile but then went to the bedroom. I think that he is finally figuring out that the whole thing drives me crazy.
Here is the recipe for the potato coddle
1pd. pork sausage links, 1/2 pd thick sliced bacon cut in 2″ pieces, 4 large potatoes,2 large onions sliced, 1/4cup chopped fresh parsley, salt and pepper to taste. 2 cups water.
In a skillet cook the bacon pieces until they turn golden, and then drain on a paper towel. Brown sausages in bacon fat. Prick sausage in several different places. Drain on paper towel and slice into 1/4 inch pieces. Peel and slice potatoes about 1/4 inch thick. In a casserole dish alternate layers of bacon, sausage, onion and potato. seasoning the potatoes with salt and pepper sprinkle each layer with a little parsley Pour off all but 2 tablespoons of the fat from the skillet. Add water and bring to boil. Pour over the potato casserole Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Remove cover and for an additional 15 minutes until the top is browned and the potatoes become tender.
I hope that all of you enjoy this as much as my family does.
You put me to shame with all the good desserts that you make for your family. I need to make some but too lazy. I am still cleaning away here and not getting done as fast as I would like. Cleaning is for the young. But none of the young people will come over and help me. lol So I guess it is for the old too. That just is not right. Some how things have gone wrong here.
Thank you for the prayers for mom. She really needs them. She has been sick a lot the last couple of years. Not just sick you stay at home but where she has gone to the hospital. It is hard on her. She is getting someone to come in and clean for her. I think that is a good idea. She is not getting any younger and that way someone will be there when we are not.
The rain and storms went around us and headed up Gail’s way. Sorry about that Gail. It was nice to have a full day of sun. The wind is really strong though. I will just be glad when Saturday gets here and all the family is together.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi Dianne,
I did not think about basket ball. Sounds like you enjoy going to the games. It is nice to get out and have some fun at a game once in awhile. I like to watch college or high school teams they all seem to have a better time playing then the professionals. I do not watch a lot of sports either.
That was good news that the storm was not bad. You do not need the heavy winds like that. We are having rain off and on here. The sun finally came out today. It was nice to see it again. We did have a little rain this morning so was glad when it was over. I agree about the time change. It is hard to get use to. It is hard not to feel tired all the time.
I just have to stop myself from watching qvc. That way I do not order anything. If I watch I end up ordering. I have ordered so much quacker here lately I am going to have to clean out my closet. I am looking for close that no longer fit and things that I have not worn for a long time. I am like a hoarder with clothes. It is time to get rid of some things. It is about time for me to do that.
I am not sure who Chris Pryme is. Is she the temptations lady or the lock n lock lady. They are both nice people and I enjoy watching them. I am looking for containers to keep all my box foods in. Get my cabinets a little more organized. I am really trying to get things in order around here. I can never find anything. So it is about time I do something.
I hope that things go well for you at the doctors tomorrow. How is you allergies doing? Did they finally calm down? Allergies are terrible this time of the year. Well that is about all from here. If you want to read more just read the posts to Gail and Adele. We always read each other post so we do not have to repeat ourselves. So just read all of them. Did not know if we told you that or not and you can say anything to anything that we posted. If you have noticed we all do that.
Have a good night.
ColleenHi Gail,
Your new car sounds nice. I have never owned a black car. I think that we have had just about every other color. Greg sounds like Ron. He is looking for something else for me to drive he says but the thing is he is looking for something to trade for. We still have two pick up trucks and that is two too many. Ron, Greg, Jerry and Gary should all get together. I think that they are all similar in their thinking. Ron is looking for a mine caravan by dodge. I really have not say in what we get so I just do not say anything. He thinks that he is the car expert. We would have one by now if I would let him get a fixer upper. No way that is alright for him and his trucks and things that he drives but I want something that is in good shape and will go when I need it to.
There are a lot more male nurses then there were. There are also a lot of physical therapist that work in doctors offices. They had started that when I was working at the nursing homes. The rules changed for them and they could not work as many hours that they use to work. It is sad when the government steps in and changes things for the better.lol The ones that I worked with would do extra things for people but after they changed the rules they could not do that anymore. It was just sad.
I can remember having snow in April. The ground hog just says that we are going to have an early winter they do not say anything about winter coming back for a day or two. It is strange weather this year and anything could happen.
I am glad that you heard from Brent. Sounds like him and the new girlfriend are doing okay. It will be nice if they can come home to visit in the summer. I know that you will be glad to see him and his new girlfriend. It is hard when they live so far away and you cannot see them when you want to. It is nice though if he is happy that is what counts. Maybe she will be the one that he decides to settle down with.
Glad that the fish made it thru the winter. It is unusual for them to get bigger during the winter isn’t it. I do not know that much about fish but I did not think that they grew that much during that time of year. I must be wrong because yours did. I forget that the flowers do not come up as soon as they do here. It will be nice if the come up sooner since spring is supposed to be sooner. Have you seen those hens and chics that they had on qvc? We have a spot in our front yard that they would look so good. We need something that will be ground cover and not have to worry about them. They showed them in different colors. I will look around here and see if I can find any and plant them and see if it works out. I am still looking for milk weed. We will have to plant that soon. Ron already has planted the onion sets. They are always so good. He is making me hungry for fresh veggies.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night and enjoy your new car. It sounds really pretty.
ColleenHi Adele,
Potato coddle is an Irish dish. It is potatoes with bacon, sausage and onion. You bake it in the oven. If you want the recipe I will post it on here. I think that I have done this once before. It has been a long time ago though. My family all like it and we have it every St. Patricks day. I have to stay with Irish traditions.
I am asleep when they do the procedure. I did wake up the first time in the middle of it. Surprised everyone that I was awake. The doctor turned and looked at me and said very calmly that I was awake and they were almost finished. Then I was out again. I guess they gave me more of the stuff to make me sleep. They also think that is why I got sick. I realized that thing down my throat and it made me gag. Just a natural reaction.
I am really glad that she is getting that shot finally. I have been telling her to listen and not to do anything for that 48 hours. She can let things go for that long and Stewart is good about helping. She has to do what she is told this time. If she doesn’t it will not work for her. I guess I am just bossy. She is an adopted daughter so she has to put up with me being bossy,.lol
We will go and pick up my mom on the Saturday before Easter. She will stay for a couple of days and then go home. She has been sick so she is not going to stay as long this time around. I do not blame her she wants to be close to her doctor. I give up on telling her she can call him from here and we will get her to the hospital if she has to go there. We will drive to the one she goes to. She will not listen to us though. I am thinking of ordering that coconut cake from QVC. I have been wanting to try it and this will be a good time to get it. I will also have something that is sugar free also. I can never remember the name of that cake but it looks so good. I can even decorate it for Easter and put the marshmallow bunnies on top. Maybe put some jelly beans around it. What all are you going to make. I am sure what ever it is it will be good.
I know what you mean about doctors. They have become our new best friends. We see more of them then some of our families. lol Well here are somethings that I thought of that might cheer you up. You could be stuck at home listening to the news. Or listening to all these political s giving their speeches. Or moving all the furniture trying to get the house cleaned before this week-end. Just doing the main rooms this week and the other rooms later. I still have closets to clean and stuff like that. Ron is getting mad at the tv and is not happy with what he is hearing. It will be a lot more fun listening to the doctors then listening to that. Are you feeling better yet? I really do not know if I am helping or making things worse. Hope that you are laughing at a woman that is trapped in the news world. Please let me out of here.lol
We are all lucky that we have our husbands and our children and grands. What would we do without them. But there are times when we need to just vent and let it all out and then move on. If we keep it all in we would explode and that would be worse.
I hope that you get all the things that you need from the store. Your boiled dinner sounds really good. It is nice that Bobby is making the meat loaf. He is such a big help. He is good to have around.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi Gail,
I have never baked potato chips before. It was the first time we fried them also. They serve fried pickles in restaurants around here. We have had them from there but Ron did not do like they did. Well at least they did not taste like it. He just threw the pickle in the grease and let it fry. I do not think that he let if fry long enough either. I just know it tasted different. So I guess he is done frying things for awhile. He fried everything he could find. I did like the fired onions. They were good though. That was nice that Greg fix them for you. Sometimes husbands can be really nice.
It was different back then. We did not have hardly and women doctors just male. The women were all nurses and the men did not do work like that. Now everyone is doing whatever they want and that is a good thing. Glad that we have female doctors now.
That is nice that the weather was nice enough that the guys could play golf. They must have had a good time if he was that tired. It has been raining here so no one is able to play golf right now. It is unusual for the weather to be nice enough for that right now anyway. This year is a leap year and everything is different.
Ron keeps saying that we are going to have another snow storm before it gets warm. He is such a pain. I am thinking that he cannot be right. We are having a lot of good weather. Except for the rain. We may have showers in March and April. Do you have any flowers coming up yet? Our Easter flowers are up and some of our rose bushes are leafing out. Hope we have roses soon.
Did you find a car the other day? I hope that you did. Is this one for you or for Greg? I hope that you find one that you both really like. What kind are you looking for? I have to say that I really like my jeep but it is a little high to get into. I have to make sure that I grab the handle when getting in.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
ColleenHi Adele,
It is not a bad thing to want to get out even if it is to a funeral. You needed a break. You have been taking care of Gary a lot here lately and you needed to get out of the house. We know that you felt bad that your friend died but it is still nice to get out of the house. Maybe you should plan a day when you can go out with the girls and Gary can stay by himself for awhile. Or plan it for a day that the nurse or therapist is going to be there. You can tell them ahead of time and then you can go and not have to worry. They will make sure that he will be okay until you get back. You need to have a break once in awhile.
They take a scope and take it down my throat and into the bile duct. They clear it out or clean up the scar tissue. Then they take it out. I have had stents put in once. That is what they did last time. I will just have to see if that is what is wrong. I really do not like to do this stuff. It does help my stomach but sometimes I get sick to my stomach and then I have to stay in a room until they are sure that I will not get sick again. It is better when it is all over with though. We will see what the doctor says.
We have our big St. Patrick dinner Saturday and then the next week we have Easter dinner. This is the first year it has been this close together. So Saturday I will make the corn beef and cabbage and the potato coddle and then do not know what we will have for dessert. That may be why I am having such a hard time deciding what to cook for Easter. That is too many meals for two week-ends in a row. I also have to watch out for my moms diet. It is just hard to do.
I have never seen the edible grass. I will have to look for that. Can put that in the bowl with the Easter candy we have on the table. Sounds like we all do that. Have candy on the table for the rest of the family.
We did have some sunshine here this afternoon. It rained just about all morning. It is supposed to rain here again tonight. I hope that they are wrong. We have had so much rain here lately. I guess we will have to take what we get though. One year we have a lot of rain and the next we do not have enough.
Well that is about all from here. Have a good night.
