Hi Ladies,
I hope this finds everyone fine & doing well. Well, the heat is on out here. It started today & will continue thru the week. We’re supposed to have one ‘cool’ day when it drops into the 80s.
I suppose you’ve seen the fires that are burning everything up. It’s mostly farms, etc. It was caused by lightning. Thunderstorms pop up & that’s the 2nd biggest cause of fires.
I started a post last night & it disappeared, so I’m try it again. The trouble is I’ve forgot what I had said. Wasn’t that horrible about that duck boat & the 17 people who lost their lives. The one lady lost her kids, husband & 9 members of her family. Soooooo sad!!! I’ll bet they pass laws about wearing life jackets on them now!!!
Furball is curled up on the sofa next to me. We’ve been sleeping out here on the sofa for 2 weeks now. It’s so cute, if I’m on my back she’ll curl up on my stomach.
The arrangements for my brother are still up in the air. I don’t want a funeral at the funeral home. I’d rather have a get together of the family & friends & tell stories about him. I have a set of photos of him with his dog, Thea. Yes she’s the one I told ya about earlier. That’s how I want to remember him.
I couldn’t get ahold of our sister in Ca., so I googled the local police non-emergency # telling them the situation. I gave them all the info & later that night they called me back & told me they reached my nephew. Turns out my sister is in a nursing home. She had a stroke last spring & she had to go to a nursing home.
I better get off here before I lose this post.
Take care.
ddin reply to: Quacker Talk-July 2018 #84618I knew I’d forget something; did you know Phillip Watson won’t be returning next yr for the gardening segments on the q. I got a post from him on FB & he said he’s moving on to other things. I always got a kick out of him.

I want to thank you all for the prayers for me & my family. As you can well imagine I’m still numb from it all. I do know he’s with our mother & Jesus. I know he’s in good Hands.
I want to believe that he felt no pain, & didn’t know what hit him.
Adele, I’m sorry to hear about your friend Winnie. I hope she heals up quickly now that the infection has been removed. I hope your mother continues to improve. The best thing you can do it hang it on the Cross. Hand it over to the Lord & let Him take care of it.
Say, I’ve been meaning to ask you, Adele, I know you have a recliner. Do you ever sleep in it? I know people do & I don’t mean just napping. The attending Dr. & PT asked me when I went into the ER last week if I had one. They seem to think it’d better for my back. And I sure wouldn’t fall out of it!!!
They’re so expensive!! I’ve thought about getting one when the Q has em on as a TSV, but I haven’t yet.
Did you guys watch the last day of CIJ yesterday? I pre-ordered some of the food items. I hope I can wait that long.Well, I guess that’s all for now.
take care.
ddin reply to: Quacker Talk-July 2018 #84494My dear friends,
It’s with a very heavy heart that I write this. My world has just been turned upside down. I got a call from my cousin yesterday. She doesn’t call me unless there’s been a death in the family or something serious, anyway. She asked if anyone had gotten in touch with me, & I said no. Now I’m starting to get uneasy. We have an elderly aunt, & so I was starting think maybe she had passed. But that wasn’t her. When I asked what was going on, she told me it was about Ray, my brother. She told me he was in the hospital. One of our cousins is an EMT, & he said Ray had had a very bad brain bleed, & it didn’t look good for him. She told me she thought he was in the Albany hospital, so I googled it & got the phone #. Turned out he’d been transferred to the hospital 10 miles away for neurology testing.
I got ahold of that hospital, & they put his ex on the phone. She was the one who found him on the kitchen floor yesterday morning. He’d had a massive stroke & there was no hope. I wasn’t able to get down there, but that’s okay. I’d rather not have the memory of seeing him hooked up to all kinds of machines, & tubes everywhere. I called back later, & talked to the attending nurse, & she assured me there was no brain activity & it was inoperable.
He had just turned 60 on the 5th.
At 10 pm last night (Friday) he passed away. I’m numb. that’s the best way to say how I’m feeling right now.
NEVER in a million yrs would I ever think he’d go before me. I’m the one with the heart condition & all.
Cherri told me he had been really sick last yr, but no one told me. Come to find out the well water out at the farm tested positive for Ecoli & something else. He lost 80 lbs in 3 months. Now comes the kicker, HE REFUSED to go to the Dr.!!!!!!!! What is it with men that they refuse to go to the Dr???!!!
It also turn out he had high blood pressure. Hypertension as the nurse called it.
I’m heartbroken of course, but on the flip side I’m mad as he– that he refused to go to the Dr. Does that make any sense?
Have any of you been watching the CIJ today? Lots of cute things, but no $$, I need to win that contest, lol!!!It’s hot again today, but tomorrow it’s supposed to be in the upper 90s. I won’t be going out in that heat. I did go to the store this morning before it got hot. I had to get out of the house for awhile. It was lovely walk.
Well now that I’ve bored you I’ll sign off.
Take care, stay cool!!
ddin reply to: Quacker Talk-July 2018 #84372Hi Ladies,
Well the heat is on, as they say. We’re gonna have 90s or high 80s for the next week or so. The guy came Tues. am & sprayed for the bugs. Jewell & I went down to Kays for the 4 hrs. Her housekeeper came to clean & was taken with Jewell. Seems like everyone is. I stayed out on the sofa last night as I couldn’t stand the odor of the bug spray in the bedroom. I have to clean up the mess & am NOT looking forward to that. Just thinking about it gags me. I haven’t figured out how I’m gonna get the bed spring & mattress down without hurting myself again.
It sounds like it’s a good thing I’m single. I LOVE watching the old cartoons!! From Bugs Bunny to Disney to the Flintstones. I don’t like any of the new cartoons at all!! And of course all the Christmas cartoons I’ve watched since they hit the airwaves!!
It’s CIJ all weekend, starting Friday. I don’t DARE buy anymore Christmas decorations!!
Gail, I hope it’s nothing serious with the swelling. Could be the heat. Kay had some swelling in her feet/ankles a few months ago. She took a couple Lasix & it did the trick.I was able to get the email address for the daughter of our neighbor that passed away. As it turns out, the day I saw him at the store, was the he passed. So I literally said my goodbyes that day. I sent a note of condolences to her & the family from Kay & myself. So sad.
The world just witnessed a miracle!! All the world’s prayers were answered when the last of the boys & the coach were brought out!!! I woke up at 5 am that morning & found several notifications on my phone they had been rescued. I heard right after they came out the pumps that were pumping the water out stopped & they wouldn’t have made it out. Praise the Lord they got out in the nick of time.
Oh, I’ll know next week if or when they’ll need to come back & do another spray. It won’t be all summer long!! I HOPE!!!
Well, I guess that’s all for tonight.
take care, stay cool.
ddin reply to: Quacker Talk-July 2018 #84276Hi Ladies,
I seem to remember one of you likes Kirk’s Folly. Jane Traecy (?) will be hosting an hour of it on Q2 today at 7 pm. I know they used to have it on, but it left. Well, she’s back with it. Jane was wearing a necklace from Kirk’s Folly. You can catch her on the Q right now. Enjoy.I’m glad I was able to clear up the differences between our weather patterns. It’s cloudy & cool again today. In a couple days we’re gonna be praying for it to cool off. Thurs we’re supposed to be in the upper 90s. we’re getting that hot hot air out of Ca. It’ll be the first heatwave of the summer.
Tomorrow is D day for me. I’ll be taking Jewell with me when I go down to Kay’s. IT’s just for 3 or 4 hrs. I’m still doing some prepping. Seems like it’ll never end. At least I can have the fans running & the windows wide open, to circulate the air in here.
I’m pretty sure Jewell’s aware somethings afoot. I won’t take her down in the carrier, as she’s aware it means a trip to the vet or some place she doesn’t want to go to. I’ll walk her back when we return.
Well, that’s all I have for today.
ddin reply to: Quacker Talk-July 2018 #84233Hi Ladies,
This site is for the birds!!! I had to sign back in when I came back on here. We lost another resident in the past week or so. I had just seen this guy at the store not that long ago. He had lived down the hall from me until he got a larger apt a couple floors down. It came as quite a shock to me & Kay, as he lived across the hall from her. I’m gonna try & find out if we can send our condolences to the family as we knew the daughter. It’s been quite awhile since we’ve seen her tho. He was a nice man. I used to call him Dracula since he slept all day & came out at night. lol. When I saw him at the store recently my mouth dropped to the floor cuz it was early afternoon & he’s not normally up at that hr. Looking back now I’m glad I stopped to talk to him as it turned out to be the last time. I was saying goodbye, even tho I didn’t know it at that time. You just never know!!Adele your ornaments are adorable. Are they needlepoint? I’ve never done needlepoint before. Is it hard to learn?
I was a bad girl yesterday (Sat.). I didn’t get the Philosophy TSV, but I did get the cookbook 12 piece shower gel, sample set. and the set of two bottles of Baby Grace. I know it’s hard to get ahold of. Shame on me.
We’re in for a mini heatwave this week. When we get one, it comes up from Ca. so it’s a dry heat as opposed to heat & humidity. You’d be laughing your butts off when I tell ya about our humidity. On the 4th, it was cloudy with 50+ % humidity. The Pacific ocean is colder than the Atlantic. We don’t have the Gulf either. Our ‘gulf’ is out of Alaska. Quite a BIG difference. I’ve seen people jump in thinking it’s warm like Fl. but they got a rude awakening! Right now I doubt the ocean temp is 70 yet. It’s usually in the 50s. Just think of it as totally opposite from what you have back there. It’s definitely NOT the tropics. And yes you can breathe deep even on the hottest days. You gotta come out some time.
Well, I guess that’s about all for now.
take care.
ddin reply to: Quacker Talk-July 2018 #84224Hi Ladies,
I’ve tried several times now to write a post & it vanishes before I can get it sent. I get so far & it disappears. So if you’re having trouble please let me know. I have no clue what’s going on, but I’m really ticked off.
I’m feeling a lot better now. I’m fine when I’m up & about, but still hurts when I’m getting out of bed. I did some housework today. Finishing up with the prep for the bug spray Tues. I hope they don’t keep me on tender hooks for 3-4 months. Altho I’ve harped on it so much they probably don’t want to hear me anymore.
I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th & the weather co operated. We were supposed to have 80 for the 4th but Mother nature had other ideas. Clouds rolled in overnight & kept it cool all day. there were sprinkles early on but not all day. It’s so dry out here I doubt anyone really cared.
I’m gonna send this before I lose it again. It’s about here where I lose it.
Have a great week.
ddin reply to: Quacker Talk-July 2018 #84163Hi Ladies,
Just a quick note to say to the Philosophy gals, they have a Philosophy TSV today. You might want to check it out. They have 2 hr shows thru out the day.. I can’t wait to see what they come out for the holidays. Last yr they had a set of several fragrances for the ho.days but I didn’t get in on it. They were the smaller bottles. Speaking of which, it just came on as a teaser. It’s Free Shipping day on the q, tooo..I started a post last night & Poof, it was gone, so I just shut down & I’ll get back to it tomorrow.
Have a great weekend!!
