in reply to: What Books Are You Reading and Recommending Now? #38100
Gosh I have several books to post. I read Crash and Burn by Lisa Gardner it was a faced paced thriller about a woman who crashes her car and afterward starts asking for a child who doesn’t exist and the story goes on from there. Then I read the Easter Bunny Murder by Leslie Meier which is part of a cozy mystery series that I read. Then I read another murder mystery Every Crooked Nanny by Mary Kay Andrews. I’m sensing a theme here. lol After that I read Here’s the Deal Don’t touch Me by Howie Mandel which talks about his life and career. Then I read The Secret Sister by Brenda Novak about a woman who returns to her home town after a divorce and losing a child. While there she comes upon a box of old family pictures and discovers that she may have had an older sister. So the book is about her trying to find answers and also finding new love.
Colleen, maybe Patrick Taylor will write a new series that you will like just as much. I have so many different series going that it’s hard to keep them all straight. Plus I have a lot of older books sitting on my shelves that I have not read yet. I still have several books by Maeve Binchey that I haven’t got around to yet and I look forward to getting around to some of those. Plus I still have every intention of reading the Harry Potter series too. Have you ever read any of JK Rowlings adult books? I haven’t but some people really like them and others don’t.
Well off to my next read. I must admit when I look at my bookcases I’m like a miser with his gold and I can just stand there and look and dream about what i am going to read next. I can browse a bookstore or library for hours. I am really at home amongst books.Hi Barbara,
I must admit I never had polk salad greens either. It seems like I have seen references to them in novels but never really inquired into what they actually were. We used to pick wild asparagus but we have our own patch now. In fact we can start picking this week. I imagine that Colleen has already had some of theirs.
I remember when my sister was little she used to have to take Geritol because she was anemic. Boy I haven’t seen that stuff in ages!
So what will you be making for your Thanksgiving in April meal? We have been enjoying the leftovers all weekend long. Sometimes the leftovers are the best part! lol
I imagine between your sore legs and Jerry’s sore back you guys would be chasing each other around in slow motion. lol
GailHi Dianne,
The flowers are so pretty. We have some blooming trees in the front yard right now. The problem is they come and go so fast that you really have to pay attention or you will miss them. It seems like all the spring flowers have such a short life span and they are my favorites, the lilacs and peonies and lily of the valley.
Boy that was a heck of a trip back from having your tests. It was like everything was conspiring against you. Thank goodness it wasn’t raining that day so at least you could stay dry. I’m not surprised that you were exhausted.
It is unusual to see Dianne with two n’s-everyone I have known previously had just one.
GailHi Adele,
Bobby’s cake looks delicious! I hope everyone enjoyed the Chinese food. 46 years old. You must have been a child bride!
I did not hear about the murders in Ohio. For some reason I watch the news during the week but not on the weekend.
So far we have done nothing this weekend but chores. I don’t know where all my energy has gone. It takes me so much longer to do things anymore-I can’t get the same amount of things done in a day as I used to.
I hope the weather is nice tomorrow as Greg finally is getting to go out golfing.
Here’s the further adventures of Piper. Last night she was modeling all her bathing suits. She would go into her room change into one and come out to the family room and twirl around and then run back into her room and change and do the same thing over and over. The child is such a ham. I told Jenny she needs to put her into the Milk Day princess contest when she is old enough as it would be just her thing. We just have to find someone to make a crepe paper dress as neither of us has those skills.
Enjoy your passover visit-even though I know it is bittersweet due to your BIL’s condition.
GailHi Colleen,
I’ll bet Ron would love to have one of those railroad cars if he could figure out a way to get one and get it home. lol I recommend that you keep him away from Jerry.
I know what kind of chairs you mean now. I remember those metal lawn chairs from years ago. I don’t think they make anything like that anymore. Those were built to last.
We watch American Pickers too. Those two are quite a pair. I always imagine how sweaty and smelly they must be after going through all those old buildings in the summer heat. Plus who would want to touch all that old stuff which is probably full of mouse poop and who knows what else. I always think that I hope that their tetanus shots are up to date. We know someone who stopped at their store in Iowa one time and they said there was hardly anything in it. I have claustrophobia and one time they went through that mole guys rabbit warren of pieced together underground stuff. I practically couldn’t breathe just watching that. lol I was afraid it would all collapse right then and there.
Well, I haven’t thought of anything fun to do yet. I gotta get busy.
GailHi Adele,
It sounds like things are getting back to normal at your house and the baking is again commencing. Happy Birthday Bobby!!!
We will probably have leftovers all weekend now. Love those leftover turkey and ham sandwiches. I told Greg not to get too used to this. Next week it’s back to beans and franks. lol
We are having the insurance adjuster over on Monday as Greg put in a claim for the basement. He said we are the fifth claim for the same thing this spring. I guess if we need it we can get people to come in and move the things in the basement and rip up the floors for us. It’s something to think about.
It’s a little cooler and cloudy today. With those three days of warm weather a lot of the flowering trees are in bloom and I see our across the street neighbors field of daffodils are in bloom. I just love seeing that.
GailHi Barbara,
That is interesting how Joey got his name. So you decided it would be easier to just call him Joey than to try and change the birth certificate. Both Joey and Joel are nice names so it turned out well in any case. It is kind of funny that the nurse got it mixed up though. They should know better than to ask right after someone has been in labor for hours. No one is thinking quite right at that point.
We don’t have any big plans for summer just our usual trips to KC and Saint Germaine and maybe a couple of days in The Dells with Jenny and family if we can swing it. Our dog sitter babysits a dog for three months at a time while the guy goes to Belize to visit his son. I don’t think that we would ever go away for that long but I’m hoping for someday to have 3 or 4 weeks someplace warm during the cold winter.
I like the name Rhys too-we call him Buddy or Lachlan Reese’s Pieces. lol
I hope the book reading is going well. I think that is such a nice idea. Now that I think of it years ago I used to read to Greg when we were driving in the car sometimes. Now we usually listen to music. On long trips I pick the music as he listens to the same things all the time and i like to change it up. it’s a good opportunity for him to listen to something new rather than folk or oldies.
GailHi Colleen,
Well now it happened to me too. I posted to you and hit submit and when I came back to the computer my posting was gone and I was logged out. So I will try again.
I think Ron and Jerry really must be brothers from another mother since they both have the same middle name. lol And Franklin isn’t that common of a name. You rarely hear it anymore.
They still make Adirondack chairs. I always liked them-one thing though-they are much harder than they used to be to get out of. lol
Brent did live in the basement. There is a bedroom, bath, family room refrigerator and microwave down there-so it was like he had his own private little space-so it was nice for him. Plus he worked nights so he didn’t have to worry about light in the bedroom when he was trying to sleep during the daylight hours. It gave him and us our privacy. He and Kim lived down there for a few months too when they first moved here from New Mexico.
One thing that’s good with all this cooking is we will now just have leftovers to eat for the next few days and I won’t have to cook anything. My aunt and uncle used to go mushroom picking and they always gave some to my Mom which she froze. So I know that i have eaten wild mushrooms and lived to tell the tale. lol I think she really trusted that they knew what they were doing.
Right now we have no plans for the weekend. I hope that we can find something fun to do.
GailHi Barbara,
I like that Jerry’s going to call the new baby Peanut! That’s cute!
I’m so sorry that Joey feels like he is being sucked down into a vortex in his relationship. Jerry gave good advice. I guess he will have to just rip the band aid off and do what will be ultimately best for both of them. It’s hard and it’s sad but I imagine they will both be happier in the long run. Joey needs a chance to be in a loving relationship and to be happy again. I hope they will come to the conclusion that it is time to move on sometime soon-so they can both have a chance at happiness again.
I think Jenny got the ideas from her kids names from baby name books. I think she liked the name Kendall for awhile and her middle name is Lane-for Lois Lane since Adam is a big superman fan. I think they picked Lachlan because Adam wanted something Irish but the name is really Scottish-I voted for Rhys (pronounced Reese) but Adam had a cousin with that name-so they gave him Rhys for a middle name instead. Jenny liked Piper and Fiona and when she told me Piper I said how much I loved it-I remembered Piper Laurie- so they went with Piper-i wanted them to use Rose as a middle name after my Mom and sister’s middle names but Adam picked Jade-I don’t really know why. They actually call Lachlan-Buddy about 50 percent of the time. Brent was named that just because I always liked the name and I also liked Mark but Greg didn’t like that name for some reason but he liked Brent and he also had a college friend who was a great singer songwriter with that name. His middle name is Matthew after Greg’s grandfather. Jennifer was picked because it was popular at the time-now there are a million Jennifers and Jessicas in that age range. I really wanted to name her Cydnee but Greg really didn’t like that-he never really “gets” unusual names-he probably wanted Mary or something like that. I should have stuck to my guns and insisted on the name because now she has a name that just about 1 in 5 people of her same age have. Her middle name is Ann-short and sweet-after her godmother’s middle name. So that’s the naming story.
