Hi Barbara,
The snow would be pretty if you were on vacation in a cabin somewhere sitting by a roaring fire and watching the flakes fall. It’s having to go out in it and shovel etc. that is the bad part. I discovered there’s a place around here that does actual sleigh rides and I would like to do that sometime. Have you ever traveled through any of the northern states? Of course the best times to come north would be spring summer and fall.
Even people up here go stock up on supplies if a big storm is supposed to be coming. I don’t think southerners have a snow phobia-it’s just something that is so unfamiliar that people don’t really know how to handle it. I know Brent chuckles at the people in NM when it snows there although they did get a big storm this year.
I guess you will have to try to face Neal and Sarah leaving as a new adventure in your life. That is what I have tried to do every time we have had people move in or move out. I try to think of it as a new and different opportunity. Now it is a different story if you are counting on them to help with chores and such. At that point I guess we have to reassess and see if it’s possible to hire people to do things that we no longer can. That’s about all we can do if we want to try and stay in place. I don’t think any of us want to leave our homes but many is the day that I wished we hadn’t built a two story home-but that’s what we have and I will have to learn to deal with it-at least for now. Sometimes it would have been nice to see how things would be now back then but that’s an impossibility-so now we have to do the best we can however we can. I’m sure you and Jerry will figure out what’s best for you. I guess most of the time our dreams and our realities end up being two different things.
I’m with you about the white pants. In fact I am such a slob I never even buy white pants. And as to the food always ending up on my chest. I often wear an apron when i eat to catch the excess that falls from my lips somehow. I have more stains on the fronts of my shirts from eating than i do from cooking! lol I think someone should invent adult themed bibs like have funny sayings or wine bottles on them instead of cartoon characters. Maybe Quacker could make and sell some sparkle and shine bibs so we can glow while we dribble. lol
I have eaten fried green tomatoes but I must admit I was rather underwhelmed. I’m thinking it’s an acquired taste-or something that is better when you have grown up eating them. I will have to try making them again this summer when we have them in the garden. Maybe I didn’t season them right the first time. I will do some research on how people do it before i try it again.
GailHi Adele,
I liked that rose shirt too but didn’t order it. I find that i just don’t wear the two piece sets that much. I just want to put on one tshirt and go. I’m an impatient dresser! lol
I did get the turquoise shirt with the beach scene though and I imagine i will do some damage on Thursday with a TSV and Quacker on several times that day. Hoping for butterflies. lol
I think you haven’t been doing that morning baking since your schedule has been kind of messed up with all the healthcare aides coming and going. When that stops you will probably resume your normal schedule. Plus you are probably tired with all the extra people in and out all day long so you need a little break.
We haven’t heard the results from Kendall’s dairy allergy tests yet although Jenny is trying to do a two week trial of keeping her off dairy and seeing if she feels better. it would be hard for a kid to stay away from dairy as they eat a lot of yogurt and cheeses and drink lots of milk. We’ll see what happens.
I don’t think Greg will try and steal my car but I have a feeling that he will be in the market himself soon. I see him looking at cars online frequently. We’ll see how long before he throws in the towel and gives in to temptation. lol
We are supposed to have 70 degrees by the end of the week so it will probably be floating towards you guys in the east after that. So spring is coming!
GailHi Colleen,
You have had a busy weekend with the kids stopping by and babysitting Aliza. You will need a rest now. Was Melissa stopping by on their way to Galveston?
We had kind of a boring weekend. Getting the stuff together for taxes. I made Greg drop it off so the accountant wouldn’t yell at me for waiting so long. lol Although she’ll probably have it done in a day anyway. Plus I didn’t realize that tax day is the 18th instead of the 15th because of some holiday in DC-like the bureaucrats need more days off. Then Greg wanted to stay around home and watch The Masters Tournament this weekend. We did go out to dinner Saturday night though-just to a local place.
Plus the weather was crummy-cold and at time snow-but none that stuck at least. it is supposed to warm up and be 70 by Sunday.
It looks like that the show on QVC+ has the right time this week so maybe it is finally fixed so it will now record automatically at the right time. We’ll see. I read on the QVC board somewhere that the TSV will be some sort of bottom. Pretty vague. If they are even right.
You asked if we called soft drinks pop or soda-we use both terms but maybe pop a little more. I think it was Brent who told me that in New Mexico all soda is called Coke-that must be confusing-although I have an old friend who is very high up in the hierarchy at Coke in Atlanta and hearing something like that probably makes him happy. lol
I hope that your tests go well this week and all the results are good. That was very considerate of the doctor to get them all scheduled at once so you won’t be chasing back and forth. That makes me feel that you finally found a good new doctor. You probably need a little rest after your busy weekend. It’s fun having the kids around but they can really wear you out too.
Last Friday when we were at Jenny’s Piper herded us all into the family room after dinner so we could sit on the couch and watch her dance. What a little diva! lol
GailBig fat snowflakes falling outside our windows! What ever happened to spring? BooHoo!
GailHi Dianne,
I will have to check next time I’m in the store what the price of asparagus is. Since we grow it ourselves I never really pay attention to the price as we rarely buy any.
We have to grocery shop at the SuperWalmart and it seems like they are always relocating items from one place to another. I preferred going to the regular grocery store for food items but that unfortunately closed down so WalMart is the only game in town now unless you want to travel farther and since I hate grocery shopping I just want to get it over as quickly as possible without more travel time. I think many items on both coasts and in large cities in general are more expensive than in smaller towns in the midsections of the country. But many things even themselves out. If I remember our other poster from Oregon said they have no property taxes where she lives in Medford. I don’t know if that is statewide or decided by individual municipalities. But it would be nice not to have property taxes. Although I then suppose that the things they fund like schools and other services have to be paid for in some other way-so one way or anther we all pay for these things. One thing that is nice about Oregon and New Jersey is you don’t have to pump your own gas. i would love to go back to the old days where someone else pumped the gas and checked your oil and washed your windows but I know that will never happen. For some reason I just don’t like pumping gas. Especially in the winter.
We are still having cold weather here. The grass is looking greener but no budding out of the trees yet. Except the weeping willows are showing a tiny bit if light green.
GailHi Colleen,
QVC plus is the only channel that I have noticed where the schedule is all mixed up. I think it must be Dish that has it screwed up but I would think that it would be in QVC’s best interest for them to get it right. If people cannot find the shows that they are looking for at the right time it would cut into their business. Most weeks they show the Chic’s show as being an hour later than it really is but this week it didn’t even show it as being on at all. So that’s not good for business.
I think Piper and Lachlan were getting booster shots and Lachlan also needed a physical for school next year. I haven’t heard anything yet about the allergy testing for Kendall. I suppose it might take a few days to get results.
I think the Quacker show this weekend is supposed to be their garden party show. I know there is another new butterfly shirt coming sometime. lol I saw the drawing.
I think when Brent comes up this summer he is planning on bringing his new girlfriend.
I don’t mind the spellcheck too much-I kind of like it-except it never likes when you type Quacker or when I type Lachlan. What I think is funny is auto correct when you text. Sometimes it makes up some funny words on it’s own.
I was just kidding about Ryan Seacrest needing to find another job. I think he has about seven other jobs including his radio show. They brought back a lot of people for the final show tonight.
GailHi Barbara,
How nice that you can have the windows open. We are still shut up tight with the furnaces running. It’s still below freezing many nights. Usually we get our last frost after the first week in May.
I’m with you. Sometimes after hiking through the store from end to end I am exhausted after getting back home and unloading the groceries and putting them away. It still seems like with only two people we still buy a lot of groceries. Maybe that’s a sign that we are not going out to eat enough. lol
Poor Ellie. I hope that she comes through the surgery with flying colors. She’s been through a lot-that’s for sure. I can’t believe your vet will come out the house. Of course they do it around here for livestock but not normally for pets. He must be a good guy.
The fact that we live all over and have so much in common is interesting. I’ll bet if we talked to women all across the world we’d find the same thing. We are all much more alike than we are different. In fact if women had been in charge of the world all along maybe it would have been a much more peaceful world. Something to think about, I guess. I often picture in my mind what I think everyone’s voice would sound like-so of course I think of you with a southern accent and Adele speaking like she is from Boston. In case anyone’s wondering we don’t talk like the Super Fans from SNL. lol Hey Adele, do you actually say “wicked”?
Brent is just coming for a visit this summer. It will be a year since he moved back to New Mexico in June and we haven’t seen him since he left-so it’s been awhile. When he was away before i got used to not seeing him often-but then when they moved back I got used to him being around again. Especially after Kim died and he moved back in with us. That will be nice for you to see Buddy-how long will they stay? Is their daughter still living with them or is she out of school and on her own? I’m sure you all will have a nice visit.
GailHi Adele,
I haven’t talked to Jenny yet so I don’t know about the allergy test. I suppose it might take awhile to get the results back. I think they do a blood draw so she probably didn’t like that at all. Between that and the others getting booster shots I’ll bet she had to make a stop at DQ on the way home to get some ice cream to soothe the pain-but maybe not if she’s worried about a dairy allergy-now that I think of it. That would be tough if the other two could eat ice cream and she couldn’t.
That’s funny about seeing all the new Jeeps when you were out and about. Perhaps a new one will be in your future. It’s funny that you said that because ever since I got my new car Greg has been kind of envious and eyeing it with jealousy. Mine has a much nicer ride than his Audi which has a sportier ride and I’m thinking he’s wanting to go back to the more cushy ride like he used to have. We’ll see how long it is before he decides to make a change. lol
The new worker (why can’t I remember his name?) just started this week so it’s too soon to tell how things are going. I hope it all works out.
I cried too during some of those stories on DWTS-especially the Doug Flutie one. I am such a wimp! lol
We have had such weird weather this week. One minute it’s rain and the next it’s snow. At least none of it is sticking. We have a big brush pile in back that Greg tried to burn today but it was too wet as the fire wouldn’t stay lit. It always makes me nervous when he does that and I am glad when it is done.
GailHi Everyone,
Isn’t it nice that the board has some lively chatter going on once again?
Adele, Brent is doing good as far as I can tell. We hope to see him sometime this summer.
Barbara, We like breakfast for dinner too. Those heated tiles are nice. We have a heated floor in the master bath which is over the garage. That was out of necessity though as we had lots of trouble up there with frozen pipes since it was above the garage which of course is unheated. So Greg and Brent installed pipes in the floor that we run hot water through during the cold months to keep the pipes from freezing. I am so lucky to have a husband who can figure out ways to solve these problems and then fix them himself. I imagine he has saved us thousands of dollars over the years.
Dianne, those flowering trees and that sunset are beautiful.
Sue, thanks for the broccoli salad recipe. Sounds good.
Colleen, I fell asleep during the Quacker show last night so I’m glad to hear there was nothing new. We haven’t had even a hint of what the TSV will be next week. Dish still doesn’t have the schedule right for Chick’s Night In-I wonder what is up with that-it doesn’t even show a Quacker show anywhere that night.
I hope Melissa’s family has a good time in Galveston. A lot of people go to the beaches there so I’ll bet the kids will have fun.
It sounds like the new doctor is being very thorough-so that’s a good thing. I hope the scans will come out good.
I did hear about Merle Haggard. There have been a lot of famous people dying lately. Sad.
The new guy (can’t remember his name) just started with Greg this week so I haven’t heard much yet. I hope that he works out and Greg can go back to part time.
It is funny how when we are kids time moves slow and now it just moves so fast.
Jenny took all the kids to the doctor yesterday. I think Lachlan needs a physical for school next year and a booster shot. Not sure what Piper needed. And I think Jenny is going to have Kendall tested for an allergy as she has a lot of stomach aches and last weekend she got hives after eating frozen yogurt-so Jenny is wondering if she has a dairy allergy. That would be ironic as her dad, uncle and grandfather all work for Dean’s Foods which is a dairy. Anyway, I hope they can get this figured out without too much testing. Anyway, hopefully I will hear the outcome today.
By the way-I just noticed that we now can click on the link at the end of the posting in our regular e-mail in box and come straight to here like it used to be. I know when they first changed the site you couldn’t do it anymore but I don’t know if this a new change again or if it’s been like that for awhile again and I just never noticed. I know James said at one time they were going to do it-but then I sort of forgot about it until the other day when I tried it and it worked. I hope someone knows what in the heck I’m talking about. lol
Gail
P.S. We have watched American Idol since the very beginning. I even used to vote in the early years. I think I am the only one here who watches but tonight is the final program and even though I know it’s probably time for it to end it will be sad after 15 years of watching. Now Ryan Seacrest will have to get 5 more jobs. lol -
