Hi Colleen,
I hope Melissa and her family have a nice vacation. I hope they are going to someplace fun for the kids. it will be nice for them to get away.
Gosh I wouldn’t think that you would have to prove that you have insurance if you are on medicare. I know we have to prove it-there is a form we got. Not sure if it goes with the tax forms or what. Greg takes care of that. Speaking of which we probably won’t be able to get the tax stuff together til he is home this weekend so i will probably get yelled at when I drop it at the accountants. I should make Greg do it since he is the slow one this year. I have all my part done. lol
I remember when I took Brent to the government building to get his passport for Kenya and Egypt they xrayed your purse on the way in and they were telling me that I had nail scissors in my purse that I didn’t even know about. Then I remember that I carried a tiny little sewing kit in my purse at the time and there was a little pair of scissors in there. It was the Courthouse which also houses the county jail so I wonder if they thought that I was going to facilitate a jailbreak with my nail scissors. Anyway, I guess I just gave them up to go in and picked them up on the way out. It was kind of funny as I had no idea what they were even referring to at first. Now I carry smaller lighter purses so there are less things to keep track of.
GailBarbara,
Glad the stupid box bothers you too. I thought that I was just being picky which is not usually my modus operandi.
I too love those solar garden things but last year I had to control myself. However, I think I have some solar mobiles stored in the back bedroom which I will pull out this summer. I love that solar multi colored windspinner that you have. I had to tie my hands together not to order it last year. Now I see it is on clearance so it might be my last chance. Hmmmmm-something to consider.
I’m so glad that Jerry is having this chance to be close to his Mom. It seems like she has softened since all this happened to her and that has been a good thing for both her and Jerry. I’m like you and am not ready to make any funeral arrangements. I plan on being around to bug my kids and grandkids for quite a while yet. lol
I do have a recipe for a strawberry cake but it is kind of “fussy.” Also I have made a strawberry roll which is good too. I will have to see if I can scare up the recipes and post them. As to the asparagus-I cook ours in the microwave with just a little water in the dish. You’ll have to play with the amount of time as it depends on the size of the asparagus and how much is in the pan. I cook it in a covered dish with a bit of water and then drain it afterwards and add seasoning and butter or cheese. I usually make half cheese for Greg and half butter for me and just sprinkle on a little seasoning salt. We like it soft even though all the restaurants serve it on the harder side. We just never bought into those tender crisp vegetables-we like them either soft cooked or raw and crisp. Nothing in between. I don’t have any recipe for a broccoli salad as Greg is not a big fan but I think Colleen might have one.
GailHi Dianne,
I’m glad that box bothers someone else besides me. I thought I was just being cranky.
It is hard cooking just for one. I guess the best thing is to make dishes where the extra can be frozen for a later date. I often wish they would make smaller sized loaves of bread as I don’t like keeping it in the refrigerator and freezer and sometimes we just don’t finish the whole thing before it goes bad.
We are still getting winter like weather here.I would like to see some actual spring like days in the 50’s and 60’s but those seem to be few and far between anymore.
GailHi Colleen,
You didn’t depress us. You were just talking about what went on during your day. We all do that-and sometimes it’s happy and sometimes it’s sad. We are all here to share the ups and the downs. That’s what friends are for. I hope poor Ethan will be okay. This has been very hard for him-he must be a very sensitive child.
That is sad that they never even told the son that his Dad was sick and had died. He must be really estranged from them-and that is always sad when that happens in families. You know I don’t know what they do with the urn at the end of the services. My Mom’s visitation was one day and the services the following day and no one kept her ashes. They were buried at a gravesite next to her second husband’s ashes. Kim was cremated but not until after the services so the funeral home called Brent to pick up the ashes after they were ready.
I hope your visit to the Social security office wasn’t too bad. You are right. They are always crabby in the government offices. What is up with that? When you go to the DMV they all look like they have just sucked on lemons. And my goodness if you try to crack a joke no one even smiles. I figure you have to be there anyway so why not at least try to be a little more cheerful-it will make the time pass quicker.
I hope you get those tiles down now that you have them. Are those ones that you got at Costco? We have to make a trip out there soon since we have gotten our rebate checks to cash in from using their credit card. That’s a nice little surprise at the end of the year.
Gotta go let let the dog out. Talk later.
GailHi Adele,
Am I being cranky or does this box in the upper right hand corner saying Watch QVC bother anyone else. It kind of gets in the way and I have to adjust my posting box so that it is below it. I know in the big scale of things and problems in the world it is a small thing but for some reason it is making me crabby. Maybe I am just in the mood to bitch. lol I guess I’m thinking if I wanted to watch QVC I am quite capable of just putting the channel on my TV. Okay-I’m done.
No I don’t think renting a place for a month in summer is the answer. First of all, Greg still works so he doesn’t have a month off at one time. And if he did I would rather just get away from the cold for a month in the winter. We both used to go up to places in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota as kids and I think he’s trying to recreate some of that for his family. Of course the place we used to go in Minnesota had no running water except in the main lodge so there’s no way I am going to recreate the outhouse experience at this stage in my life! lol He doesn’t take the boat out and put it in every time anymore. The last three years he has rented a permanent slip for the summer. When it was at a resort we used to get free swimming passes for the summer which was nice but now they have discontinued that perk unless you want to pay extra.
We had a lovely day Sunday while you were getting snow we hit 70 degrees-but now we’re back in the 40’s with more rain expected. It just seems like we go from 40 to 80 with none of those nice 60’s or 70’s in between. Has your snow melted yet?
I haven’t watched DWTS yet. Monday has two hours of The Voice and two hours of DWTS which is a lot of TV! I was so tired last night that I fell asleep after the Voice and haven’t watch DWTS yet. Piper wore me out as she insists on my undivided attention the whole time that I am over there. Poor Lachlan, she doesn’t want me to do anything with him. She definitely has that third child baby of the family personality. I recognize it as i was much the same way. lol
GailHi Dianne,
Some of those old shows are good. I like to mix the old in with the new. Another DWTS tonight. I wonder who will go?
GailHi Adele,
I totally understand what Tillie is going through. I hope she can figure out some sort of happy medium. I think that is so cute that she wants to wear the same Quacker as you. Greg’s birthday is May 9th-the day after hers and Jenny’s is May 1st-so I have had two stubborn Taurus bulls to deal with! lol
Piper has Greg totally wrapped around her little finger. He was over there Saturday helping Adam with fixing up their basement. When he was leaving Piper asked him -” Grandpa when are you coming back?” Now how can that not melt his heart.
The parts of the house that we do not use like the kids old bedrooms and the spare bedrooms I just kind of give a lick and a promise to most of the time and then give them a good cleaning if someone is staying over and using one of them. They really don’t get that dirty just sitting empty with no one using them-so they are cleaned on an as needed basis. lol
Well we did learn that we are probably not interested in Lake Wisconsin properties yesterday. The problem is you don’t get nice sandy beaches unless you go farther up north-and we don’t want to make the trip that long otherwise it will be too far for Jenny and Adam to use on the weekends. I would be totally happy with a backyard swimming pool and a month in Florida during the coldest part of the winter but the problem with that is it still doesn’t take care of Greg’s love of fishing. I think the more we look the more he will realize how impractical this whole thing would be though. Who knows. It was a beautiful day yesterday though so it was a good day to be out and about doing something.
How much snow did you end up getting?Hi Colleen,
I’ll bet if Ron hears you calling his nephew to do that tile work he will be right there to do it himself. That’s usually how Greg is if I want to get someone else in to do something. Our house is about 20 years old now so we do need to do some fixing up. We need new carpeting in places. We need our hardwood floors refinished and I want to make some changes in my kitchen. I’m hoping to get these things done in the next couple of years. If we can agree on everything-that’s the biggest stumbling block sometimes.
I hope that it was warm enough to wear those sandals to the funeral. My Mom was already cremated before her visitation so there was just an urn there too. I don’t think we even had a picture. It actually was kind of weird but that’s how she wanted it. We didn’t have any luncheon after the actual funeral service and burial mainly because it was Christmas Eve and there was just a few people there anyway. When my Dad died they had the luncheon after the funeral at my parent’s house too. It really wasn’t that much work for my Mom as all the ladies came in and cleaned her house before and after and they supplied all the food and really did everything for her. That’s when they lived in Louisiana and I guess that’s how they did things around there. So maybe that’s how it will be at this funeral too so there won’t be too much work for his widow.
GailHi Barbara,
That little boy who came to fish sounded so cute. Pretty soon you will have your own little grandson to cuddle. And you can tell us of his adventures. I’m sure before long Neal and Sarah will be asking you and Jerry to watch him so that they can go out to dinner or something. Or they will need childcare while they are working. I’ll bet you will get plenty of opportunities to be with the new baby. How far away will they be moving?
It is funny how many nurses that you have in your family. You have been a good influence. I had two cousins who were nurses and they both ended up marrying doctors-I’m not sure if any of their children went into the medical field as they were quite a bit older than me and I have lost track of them. It is amazing that a person can retire from the military and still only be 43. Your son could now have a whole other career ahead of him. It would be nice if they could move closer to you but I can understand that she might wish to be closer to her family too. Maybe there is a happy medium somewhere.
