    Hi Adele,
The guy that passed away was not one of The Choirboys. He was a guy who lived in the same town as us and was once the national fingerpicking champion-I think in 1991. Every year he put on a concert at Christmas time with three other guys(it varied from year to year) who were also great guitar players. We knew him through that and through the various folk events that both he and The Choirboys played at around the area. So he was more of a casual acquaintance.
I am lucky that Greg will go to concerts and plays. I can’t believe that Gary was so disinterested in The Phantom. To me any live event is exciting whether it be professionals or amateurs. Greg will go to just about anything (perhaps he might balk at The Vagina Monologues) lol-I usually keep track of whats going on around the area and get tickets for the things that we might like and just tell him what we are going to and when. Maybe from singing with The Paulist Choir from such a young age he learned to like a variety of things. Also his Mom used to put him in these shows all the time when he was little too so he grew up surrounded by these things.

    Hi All,
Sue, thanks for the Penzey’s number. The spices look interesting.
Dianne, I love the photo of Jewell under the tree. I also like the white tree-it’s very elegant looking.
Colleen, it always seems like the little babies get fussy when they are away from their home environment. Maybe too much stimulation from all the new sights and sounds. Anyway, it sounds like you had a big crowd and a good time and that’s what counts. My MIL always used to make a lamb cake so now that I think of it I wonder what happened to the mold that she baked it in. I’ll have to ask my SIL if she has it.
Adele, the owl teapot didn’t show up on the Fitz and Floyd site. Maybe they are sold out. I’ll check EBay and Amazon and see if I can find a picture there. They do have corned beef and cabbage in the Midwest-I just meant that I don’t serve it as neither of us is that crazy about it. Speaking of wearing Italian orange isn’t Saint Joseph’s Day on the 19th a big Italian Day? It’s also a big day in the Polish community. I hope Tillie is feeling better. I know when they get older you worry over every little thing as you know that every moment is precious time that you have together.
We just found out this weekend that the guy that puts on the Christmas guitar night that we have gone to for the last ten years just passed away. I thought when we saw him last December that he looked a little pale but then it just kind of skipped my mind. What a shame. He will be missed. They must be expecting a big turn out for his memorial service as it is scheduled to be at the Opera House where he had his concerts.
We had such a great time at the concert Saturday night. I have seen this same guy play Jerry Lee Louis in The Million Dollar Quartet and now he has this history of rock and roll show. He is so talented and so charismatic-I just love him and am a big fan. His energy is off the charts-of course he is very young. On the old site I could have posted a video- I hate that I can’t do that anymore here. If you want to see him go to YouTube and type in Lance Lipinsky. Look where he does Jerry Lee Lewis. That just brings the house down. We went out to eat before the concert and Greg had barbecued boar’s ribs-that was a first. This restaurant always has some unusual stuff. They normally have some sort of wild game and also they do the sustainable dinners where they buy stuff from local farmers and growers. The food is really good.
So we are doing something different for Easter this year. We are going to brunch at the new place that opened in the old factory building in town. Everyone wanted to do it for a change and that was fine with me. I am not so tied into tradition that i mind doing something different. Plus the little ones could care less about a big sit down dinner anyway. So we will go for brunch at 12:30 and then afterwards they can come over here to hunt their eggs and if they want to stick around we will just do hamburgers and hotdogs and chips for dinner. That will make it nice and simple for me. I like to change things up every once in awhile. I will probably buy an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen for dessert and we will be all set. I do have to get my plastic eggs and some candy this week. So I’m looking forward to this-it will be fun.
We didn’t get any snow but maybe might get some during the week. We’ll see as it could be rain too. Our warm weather has disappeared though. I guess i can’t take my sandals out just yet.

    Hi Colleen,
Maybe the name Lance Lipinsky sounds familiar because of Tara Lipinski the figure skater. She and Johnny Weir now do color commentary for lots of sporting events.
I do play the clarinet although i haven’t had it out in years. In school I was always in Choir and in the musicals. That was a lot of fun. We have my Mom’s old piano. Jenny took lessons but I never really learned to pay although I can read the music for the right hand. Greg plays by ear so he will sit down and play sometimes. I suppose if any of the gandkids want to take lessons and Jenny doesn’t want to buy a piano I would pass this one on to her-although it doesn’t hold a tuning well-but that’s okay because Greg can tune it himself.
The old Irish shows were nice when they used to have the dancers and sometimes even Celtic Thunder but i think those days are long gone for the Q. They don’t do any shows with production value anymore. Oh well-everything changes over time.

    Hi Adele,
I think if any new dishes would tempt me enough to buy them even though I have no place to put them it would be the Polish Stoneware. I like that they are made in Poland because of my heritage and I do have several of the pieces. I think a few even have butterflies on them. (of course) I also like the ones with flowers on them. If it’s any indication that I haven’t gone completely rogue I did buy some more butterfly clips from amazon for my bedroom curtains this week. lol
You’re lucky you didn’t get pinched not wearing any green-or were you hoping for a little pinch from Mr. Gary? lol
What kind of meat is in a boiled dinner? Is it corned beef? I always think of a boiled dinner as being “New England” but it sounds sort of Irish corned beef and cabbage too. Of course isn’t Boston like Chicago and has tons of Irish too? Isn’t it ironic that you live on the east coast and are allergic to shellfish? Greg and I always say if we lived on a coast we would pig out on seafood. Not a lot of fresh seafood in the rural Midwest.
I will have to check out the Penzey website as I hear a lot about them but have never tried their stuff.
Hey, when Martha Stewart comes over and offers to do my dishes then she can slap me for using paper plates. I say take the easy way so that you have more time to enjoy your guests. Believe me the people who would be helping you clean up will thank you. Especially your granddaughters who probably don’t care that much about presentation-it doesn’t seem to be that important to the young ones anymore. Besides, we all know that Martha has tons of assistants at her beck and call. She probably has an army of minions! lol

    Sue,
I hope that you don’t get too much snow. I have heard of Penzey’s spices but never really looked at them. I will have to check out the website-it sounds like they have some good stuff. Greg loves all those spices and sauces. Stay safe and warm!

    Hi Dianne,
You sure do love Thomas KIncade and flowers! You are decorated to the nines! How cheerful it all looks and very much springtime too. You should post your Christmas decorations. I think all of us are Christmas lovers. I think it must have to do with the sparkle of Christmas and the sparkle of Quacker clothes. They are similar.
Being a caregiver is hard. I was one for my MIL who had dementia for 6 years and it is stressful being responsible for another adult. I’m not sorry that i did it but by the time I was done i was both mentally and physically exhausted. I really had to take some time to relax and recuperate afterwards.
I love that the two Oregon teams are Ducks and Beavers! I actually like sports but we are not watching March Madness right now. I’m sure my husband will watch on the weekend. During the week we have our regular programs that we watch or record as I’m kind of in charge of TV then. If my husband was in charge all we would watch would be sports. If you put a tiddlywinks tournament on a sports channel he would watch that! lol
I used to watch lots of soaps-One Life to Live-which is gone now. Days of Our Lives which I no longer watch and General Hospital which I still follow. I did watch Dark Shadows years ago too but i hardly remember anything about it except that it was about vampires. I did watch Port Charles when that was on and that was about vampires too. I guess I watched that one as it was kind of a spin off of General Hospital. I think I have watched General Hospital the most and the longest. I never got into All My Children for some reason. Probably because there are only so many hours in the day. I think we all watch Dancing with the Stars which starts up again next week.
    Have a great day.

    Hi Colleen,
The guy from Connemara marble is Stephen Walsh-I like him too-he reminds me of a little leprechaun himself as he is so energetic. I like listening to their accents-they sound so melodic to me.
I was glad to hear from Barbara too. It seems like we had the conversation awhile ago when Debbie was on about having someone come on and tell us if something happens to one of us. I think it’s a good idea. I will tell Greg to do it. If I can remember. lol
I have never seen Riverdance except on TV. We are going to see a show this weekend call Rock Baby Rock. It’s starring this guy called Lance Lipinsky that we saw in Million Dollar Quartet. He is an amazing piano player. He’s had an act in Vegas and is now doing this show. Google him or find him on YouTube. He’s fun to watch.
When Greg is driving golf balls from the back of the property I never let the dogs out in the pen because sometimes he slices or hooks or whatever it’s called and the balls end up in the dog pen. I wouldn’t want Rocky to get bopped on the head with a golf ball.
We don’t feed the fish during the winter as the pond is frozen over. We put in a bubbler to keep the water oxygenated and of course it’s deep enough where it doesn’t freeze all the way down. The fish are kind of in a semi-hibernation in the cold they don’t move much but there must be enough algae on the pond bottom for them to eat. It is kind of interesting how they manage.
The tree wasn’t that big of a tree so it didn’t really hurt anything when it broke. It was some sort of flowering tree-I’m not exactly sure what kind.
Kendall is doing good. She actually spent all night at a birthday sleepover a few weeks ago. And she was very proud of herself for doing that. She’s looking forward to spring break as her other grandmother takes her and her cousin Maya and her two half sisters Gabby and Enya on a shopping trip where they can pick out clothes for themselves and she buys them. It makes her feel quite grown up.
You will have two busy weekends between Saint Patrick’s and Easter. Pace yourself!

    Hi Adele,
I’m so glad that Gary’s legs are already getting better. That’s such a good thing. How did the boiled dinner go? We had nothing Irish to eat but I was wearing a very old Quacker sweater-pink with a green shamrock on it. I told Greg that the ladies at work would probably pinch him yesterday as he was not wearing any green but he told me that he doubted that would happen. lol
The amount at your Easter table is growing by leaps and bounds. Yet it’s nice that everyone wants to come to you also. It’s kind of a blessing (because everyone will be there) and a curse (because of all the work). Maybe you will have to use plastic plates and utensils to lessen the load. As much as I like to use the “pretty dishes” it can be an unneeded burden too. Speaking of dishes-I saw those butterfly bowls on new arrivals yesterday and I just turned my back and said “Satan be gone!” I do have my regular dishes with butterflies and some Polish stoneware with butterflies so that will have to satisfy my butterfly Jones.
Yes, I heard the other day that you might be in for another nor’easter come Monday. I thought our upper Midwest weather was bad but you being off the Atlantic get those storms brought in by the ocean which have lots of moisture in them. They’re saying we might get some snow overnight but I don’t think there will be much accumulation. I hope not.

    Hi Everyone,
I just got an e-mail from Barbara. She said they are okay-Jerry had the flu and she fell down and they are still knee deep in dealing with things with his Mom. She said her computer was broke and the new one they got wasn’t working right. So she said she will be back when she can. I was so relieved to hear that everyone was okay. So-mystery solved. I hope she’ll be back soon. I miss her news.
Adele, lol-I think the things that psychics can see are auras. Dr. Gail prescribes you a good nights sleep and some baking therapy-take them both and see me in the morning. lol
