Hi Adele,
Love the story about you and the plumber. I wouldn’t worry-remember he’s a plumber-guys who are notoriously famous for showing their butt crack! lol He would have thought you and your bra half on was a normal occurrence. lol
When you are planting your butterfly bush don’t forget to plant a few milkweed seeds to help save the monarchs. I know they are not pretty and are considered a weed but maybe you can find a little spot for them.
So what was in the crock pot last night? You do have Grand Central Station at your house. Does Tillie come up for dinner each night or just part of the time? Is Bobby home for dinner every night. You are still feeding lots of people in that case.
I think the hospital is one of the worst places for germs around. I always do a good hand washing or sanitizing when I leave the doctor’s or the hospital. Speaking of that Kendall was sick again yesterday-she threw up in the morning. Have not heard how she is today yet.
GailHi Dianne,
That’s interesting that you have pen pals from the UK. I always said chatting to the people on this board from all across the country is like having adult pen pals. We have learned some interesting things about the other states over time. From our other Oregon Quacker we discovered that you don’t have fire flies out there. I was amazed as I thought everyone had the experience of catching lightning bugs as a kid and putting them in a jar and watching them light up. After she told us that I did some research and discovered that there aren’t fireflies west of the Mississippi. I thought that was so interesting. So we discovered chatting on here was not only fun it was also educational.
I’m glad Jewell is over getting groomed. I know cats don’t really care for that. How nice that you have a mobile groomer. I think that’s an excellent idea. I have to take our dog over to the groomer which I don’t mind except when the weather is bad.
We don’t have a Dollar Tree close by here but I know they sometimes do have some cute stuff. I’m glad that you found a place close by to get your artificial flowers.
GailHi Adele,
I figured that you forgot to check the box again. I will have to send you an email reminder each month. lol
I guess between the two of us we have the butterflies and the patriotic Quacker stuff totally covered. The Bice family should send us a Christmas card every year. lol Last year I had a butterfly pinky ring made up with a diamond from a necklace that was my mothers. I never wore the necklace because it was a 16 inch chain and the pendant didn’t come off so I could change the chain out. So when we went to Kansas City which has my very favorite jewelry store I took the pendant with and had them take the stone out and make me up the ring. Our trip usually coincides with our anniversary so that’s usually where I get my gift each year. I wear a pinkie ring on both hands and have since I was about twenty-it’s kind of like my signature-plus I always wear my wedding rings on my left hand and some ring or other on my right ring finger. That’s another reason I hate when the RA acts up as the fingers swell and the rings have to come off and i have worn them so long and they are such a part of me that I miss them if I have to take them off due to swelling. I feel like I’m missing a part of myself when that happens.
It’s always quiet around here all day anymore. We don’t have people in and out like you do at your house. Rocky does not even bark anymore since he is deaf and can’t hear the sounds that dogs would normally bark at. He did pretty well when we were gone for so long on Saturday. Sometimes he has accidents since he is older but he didn’t have any but I’m sure he was looking for me later in the day and he was probably getting hungry too as he normally would eat at 6 and we weren’t home til after 8.
I’m looking forward to the nice weather this week. Spring is coming.
GailHi Dianne,
Mother’s Day is in May. We were just talking about sending Mother’s Day wishes to one of our Quacker friends from the UK as Mother’s Day there is in March.
GailHi Colleen,
I know some DQ’s stay open all winter. I think it depends on the owners. Ours closes in the winter because the owners go to Florida and I guess they don’t want to be bothered running it long distance. Ours doesn’t really have a lot of sandwiches-they don’t even have burgers which many do. Last year we were supposed to get a Dunkin Donuts, a Baskin Robbins and a Hardees and all of them ended up falling through.
Kendall sleeps good as she is usually tired from being up and going to school. Lachlan sleeps okay but he won’t sleep in his own bed. I think he is always in with Jenny. It’s like musical beds in their house.
I have never bought any kids clothes from Zulily but I think Jenny has. However, because of the way things are set up with them there is no returning things. And they don’t ship things right after you order them. You have to wait until the time period on the sale is over. Somewhere there is an explanation of how all that works. All that being said I have been very happy with the things that I have bought. I have bought some jewelry, some picture frames, an ottoman, and some other household things. I know you want a Kitchen Aide mixer and I have seen those on there for a hundred dollars less than the regular price. In general I have been extremely happy with my purchases from them. One time Jenny ordered a shirt for Lachlan and they sent the wrong size. She couldn’t exchange it as they were all sold out but I think they did give her a credit. Anyway, thus far my experience has been good and I have been happy with what I received. Last week I got the cutest little sign that says ” Welcome to Gigi’s” on it and I have never seen anything like that anywhere else.
My laptop is fine. I am a dummy. I checked where it plugs into the wall but forgot to check that box on the cord that has plugs on it and it was unplugged from there. So I am up and running again.
I did remember to send Christine Mother’s Day wishes and she e-mailed me back telling me what she has been up to. It’s interesting that it is on different days in different countries.
GailHi Dianne,
We used to have someone from Oregon who chatted with us regularly. She is from Medford. She has been feeling unwell so she stopped chatting and we all miss her so much. She could tell a story like no other.
I’m with you when I see the “organic” label. We still vegetable garden that same way. A fresh tomato straight from the garden is like a little slice of heaven on earth-when you still feel the warmth of the sun on it as you take your fist bite and add a sprinkle of salt. It’s one of God’s treasures here on earth.
I bought some Thomas Kinkade in the earlier days of the Q too. His pictures do evoke a feeling of peace and coziness. Like you could walk right into one of those cottages and sit down for tea with the occupants. Each painting seems to tell a story.
We have two children and three grandchildren. A son named Brent and a daughter named Jenny. Our daughter lives in the same town as us and our son lives in New Mexico. He had lived there in college and for a bit after. He met his wife there and they lived there for a couple of years after they got married and then they moved back to Illinois. His wife died about two and a half years ago and he moved back in with us until last summer when he moved back to New Mexico. Needless to say we miss him. I worked in an office until we had children and at that point I stayed home and have been here ever since. We are in Illinois practically on the Wisconsin border about an hour and forty five minutes from Chicago. I have lived in Illinois for the majority of my life.
Jewell is such a beautiful cat. We used to always have cats and dogs but when we stopped having a cat for a little while my husband became allergic so no more cats for us. I miss them. We had three dogs who are in my profile picture but we have now lost two of them to various forms of cancer. The only one left is the black and white one, Rocky, and he is sixteen and a half years old-he will be 17 May 28th.
So that’s a little about me. Colleen and Adele will probably share their stories when they come on.
I didn’t realize that Oregon was having a drought like California. I guess you hear more about California.
I hope that you have a great rest of your weekend.
GailHi Adele,
I had a feeling when you were MIA that you had forgotten to check the box. I will try to give a reminder when we change months but , who knows, I will probably forget to do that. lol We need reminders for our reminders!
Your madelines sound delicious. The home health workers get an extra treat when they come to your house. So has Gary been having to sleep in a recliner then?
That top with the flag was so pretty but I had already bought one of those patriotic believe shirts and one with balloons so I took a pass this time around. Maybe next year. And of course there was a new short sleeve one with butterflies that is now winging my way. lol
We are looking at 60 degrees midweek also. I am excited. Except my RA has been acting up. I’m hoping it will subside without me having to add more medications. I will give it several weeks and see what happens. sometimes you will have a flare and then it will subside. Plus I had been forgetting my nightly pills sometimes so I’m hoping that getting back on schedule with that should help.
Greg is supposed to go over to Jenny’s later and help Adam measure and buy some stuff for fixing up their basement. I’m not sure if I will go along or not. Other than that I’m not sure what our plans are as we spent all day yesterday car shopping. We were gone much longer than expected and poor Rocky was here all alone. I called Jenny to see if someone there could run by and let him out but they were all in the car on their way to see Zootopia. I’m like a big kid as I like all those Disney movies too. I hope it was good. We have tickets in a couple weeks to see this guy that we saw previously in Million Dollar Quartet. He was phenomenal-he played Jerry Lee Lewis and I swear he could play the piano standing on his head! lol
Gotta get some breakfast.
GailI sent Barbara an e-mail asking if she was okay but so far no answer. Also I hope everything is all right with Adele as we haven’t heard from her in a few days. I hope everything is all right with Gary after his shoulder surgery. Or maybe she forgot to check the box so she isn’t getting any notifications.
GailHi Colleen,
It sounds like you guys had a good visit with the grands. Owen was being very polite even though he didn’t see the money at first. Lachlan already remembers that the Easter eggs that they hunt here have money in them as he was asking Jenny the other day if he gets money at Gigi’s house for Easter can he use it to buy a new game for his tablet. I wish my memory was as good as their’s!
We do have Steak and Shakes in Illinois. I think the closest one to us is in Rockford. Gosh when I was in college there was one in Bloomington that we went to all the time. I had forgotten all about that. We always pick up dinner before we go to Jenny’s on Friday. Now that Dairy Queen is open again for the summer I suppose the kids will want us to pick up dinner from there just about every week. Mainly because of the ice cream in the kids meals. lol That was nice of them to put Owen’s name on the cookie in the restaurant. Did they put a candle in it too? I remember a few years ago we took Brent and Kim out to some steakhouse for his birthday dinner and they made him sit on this saddle thing after I told them it was his birthday. I must have a picture of that somewhere-I wonder what I did with it. He was a good sport about it even though he didn’t want to do it.
So this will be little Aliza’s first Easter. She probably has a cute outfit to wear. I forget how much little ones sleep during those first few months. Especially in the car-that’s like the magic sleeping machine. Then they get to be Piper’s age and I swear that child never sleeps-and she also never stops talking. However, I think I was like that as a kid too. I always remember people asking me-“who put a nickel in you?”Poor Jenny, she must feel like she never gets enough sleep. She really is my hero-working full time and taking care of a house and three little kids. If only they could bottle some of that energy and sell it to us! lol
Greg did hire a guy who will be starting April first. Even though he is still doing all the work just knowing that he will be getting some relief next month has really taken a load off of his mind and he seems to be feeling better. Just as tired but feeling happier.
I am having an RA flare recently. I hope that it will improve on it’s own without me having to go on more medicine.
For some reason it says my battery is running low so I better post this before I run out of juice. I’m plugged in so I don’t know what the problem is.
