in reply to: What’s Happening? April 2023 #148533
Hi Adele,
Love the ornaments. I’m sure your friends will appreciate your talent and thoughtfulness.
You know, as kid Jenny didn’t seem to be that afraid of the tornadoes. It started getting worse as she got older.
It isn’t something we like but it’s something we have gotten used to after living in this area all our lives. The best that you can do is be prepared and pray and hope for the best. it is good to have a basement. In the south they don’t build much with basements so that seems to be where they have the most fatalities. We have had a couple of hits down the road from us over time and every time it happens we are just grateful to be alive and still have a house. Have you never had a tornado warning in your area? They say the storms will get worse with global warming and I also just read an article that talks about how the geography and the placement of the US makes it ripe for all kinds of weather disasters. it was interesting.
You know sometimes grief just sneaks in on you when you aren’t expecting it. And after all you are barely six months into losing Gary so even little things can bring it on. go ahead and cry-it’s an outlet and better to live your pain than stuff it down.
You will soon be able to get a job as a movie critic. Thank goodness for all the streaming services so that you can find things that appeal to you. I know some people that just watch the old movie and TV channels and that’s nice but I also like to stay in the 21sr century and keep up with the new stuff.
I like to think that I’m at least a little hip for an old lady. lol
Greg and i don’t watch a lot of baseball as there are so many games but we do watch some Sox (white not red) games and some Cubs games. We watch more football.
What is Amanda doing now? Is she living with her boyfriend and working or going to school?
Will people come over for Easter. We are planning on going to brunch and having the kids over later for sandwiches and an egg hunt.
Hugs,

in reply to: What’s Happening-March 2023 #148395Hi Everyone,
Colleen, Ron can come over and bake pies and cakes for me anytime. lol Sweets are my down fall.
You know since Timmy (that’s the axolotl) is in water all the time I never felt his skin but it looks smooth.
I just don’t remember where they got it from-a pet store somewhere I guess. I don’t know how Lachlan learned about them. They are kind of cute. They are from Mexico.
I hope your shots will have you up and moving without pain.
I know how that goes-when you replace counters-something doesn’t look right and then you need to repalce more and more-it really snowballs.
I would like to replace counters in our kitchen and my cooktop. I think I could get away with keeping the cabinets because when we built the house I picked very high end well made cabinets that should last forever. Plus I still like the cabinets a lot.
DD, I’m glad to hear that the trouble making person is gone. Somehow it does not surprise me that the apartment is wrecked. Thank goodness they only felt it necessary to just shut down his apartment and not the whole place.
Adele. I’m glad the purging is moving along. Take your time and do not hurt yourself.
Tell us how your egg cooker works. Did you ever get an air fryer? I thought about it for a long time before I got one and I’m glad that I did. We have even cooked hot dogs in it. It’s great for reheating stuff-good for left over pizza. I think it’s a handy kitchen addition.

in reply to: What’s Happening-March 2023 #148283Hi Everyone,
Colleen, I hope the shots will fix your back. You really do have to be able to get downstairs to hear Aliza play the drums.
I hope Greg can golf too. He enjoys it so much. It would be almost as bad as if he couldn’t do music.
You are right. It does give us a little time away from each other.
You know when most men retire you have some time to think about the differences it will cause in your life and how you will handle it. In his case once covid hit he just never went back to the office at all so it went from one way to the other without even a chance to think about making the adjustment. And even though he works from home still he doesn’t spend that many hours working each day but yet we don’t have the total freedom to travel much because he is still attached to the office by phone and sometimes things come up that he has to help the new general manager with. So he is not working full time in the office but not totally retired yet either.
DD, I hope they get the crazy man out of your building. That has to be upsetting to everyone. He obviously needs some kind of mental help.
Adele, tell your kids it’s not mean to the dog at all. Those little tiny dogs could care less if they go outside. My SIL’s dog didn’t even like walking on the grass. And if they ever went for a walk with our dogs when they used to come out here Char would end up carrying Shana(her Yorkie)
I think a little dog would be a great companion for you and would enrich your life. The only problem would be getting it to the vet for shots and check ups but maybe you have a mobile vet in your area or one of the kids could help out with that. I really think that pets can be life savers. Great for companionship and our mental health.
Speaking of pets, Colleen, you asked about Timmy-Lachlan’s axolotl. They aren’t the greatest pets as they have to stay in the water like a fish. They are kind of cute though. They have to eat worms. And they are really really pink.
Gailin reply to: What’s Happening-March 2023 #148199Hi Everyone,
Colleen, I hope that your back will feel better after the shots.
Greg never did get the MRI. He did get papers that he could submit to contest the decision but never filled them out and sent them in as he was doing better. They always say sciatica will get better eventually but he has some other back issues so I think he was afraid that something else had gotten worse and I think he thought he would be in pain like that forever. I hope he can still golf this summer.
Adele, your needlepoint is so good. I tried it one time and I just couldn’t get it for some reason.
I know you miss all the activity of a large family around you. It’s too bad you couldn’t have some kind of little dog or cat for company. My SIL had a little Yorkshire terrier that never even had to be taken outside she just went on a potty pad inside the house. That dog was her saving grace after her husband died as she had no children or grandchildren- she even says that little dog was her life line.
I think all the time about getting another dog. I never thought I would be without one especially for such a long time. But then I think about how easy it is now to just come and go as we please and it holds be back a little. I know Greg is ready for another dog but it takes me to pull the trigger. I’m so conflicted.
We are supposed to get several inches of snow again tonight. I thought we were all done with that. At least it will melt fast as the weather next week will be in the forties. I am tired of long pants and socks and shoes and jackets.
Colleen, have you been watching the Masked Singer? Did you see the axolotl? Lachlan actually has one of those for a pet so I’ll bet we were one of the few people that actually knew what that was.
I had to laugh when you said Ethan thinks you guys need help. You know you’re getting old when your grand kid thinks you need help. I too had forgotten that he was there for a while. I can’t blame him for wanting to get back with his friends though. I know friends are a big part of life when you are a teenager. When I think of all the sleepovers and things we had when I was a teenager. My girlfriends were a huge part of my life back then. Our house and my friend Karla’s house was the place for sleepovers back in high school. so many nights we stayed up all night. I sure couldn’t do that now. lol I wish I had the close friends now that I had in high school. It’s so much harder making friends as an adult. I miss girl time. It seems so many friends I had when the kids were growing up have moved away and they are all gone now. Oh well.
When Brent was here one night we went to Jenny’s and we like to play games (except for Jenny’s boyfriend the party pooper) lol Even Kendall stayed out and played when Brent was here and she usually disappears into her bedroom after dinner. She’s a good kid.
Gailin reply to: What’s Happening-March 2023 #148154Hi Everyone,
DD, that is very scary. I hope that they can get that guy out of there-pronto!
Adele, I’m sorry that JJ had to go home. yet, I can’t blame his parents and brother for missing him.
Feel free to email me anytime that you want to chat.
We had a nice visit with Brent and Tynasha. It was a little different this time since they were traveling without her son so we could do some adult things. So we took advantage and went to the casino one day and another went to a bar another day to play their trivia night. We had a lot of fun.
They don’t have a Costco close by so we took them to Costco one day so they could load up on household goods.
Greg’s sciatica is doing better. By the time he finally got into rehab he was doing better and figured out that he needed to walk to make it better-so he went once and was released with exercises to do at home. I’m glad he’s feeling better as I hated hearing him say ow ow ow ow every time he moved.
So far it’s been typical March weather with some nice days and some cold days. But it looks like the temperature is finally veering up a bit. We are due for some rain coming in over the next several days though.
I have been enjoying the longer hours of daylight though.
Looking forward to a jewelry day on the Q this week.
I have to say like many I mostly just check the website and I check their chat board. I often wonder what the future of the Q will be as I know the younger generations do not shop there. I don’t get as many Quacker clothes as I once did but will still get something that i really like from them or Denim and co. I like those Anybody joggers and I do like Kim Gravel and i like Logo tops as they cover my fat parts. lol I don’t really need any new clothes but sometimes something new just perks me up. Retail therapy!
Gailin reply to: What’s Happening-March 2023 #147946Hope everyone is well. Brent is coming in today so we will probably be busy this week.
Happy spring forward. I can’t wait for more daylight.
